Community Poll: Were you taught Cursive in School?

I’ve noticed that having difficulty reading cursive has been a topic of debate for a lot of folks here. Many being surprised that some have trouble reading cursive. I myself, having graduated high school in 2017, was not taught cursive throughout all of my schooling. I did take the time to learn and teach myself to read cursive since then as I spend a large amount of time transcribing old letters as a hobby, so it was a requirement for me. But it made me wonder how many others here may not have been taught cursive in school. I’m really curious to see the results. Feel free to have some respectful discussions about in down in the comments.

transcribing an account book

Hi I'm trying to transcribe an account book from I think around the 16th century but this symbol keeps appearing and I can't figure out what it means, its used both in the sentence and as a number, these are some examples of it. For context, it could be an X but the 'x' appears differently elsewhere in the text. Don't think it's a 2 either as they are quite clear elsewhere. Does anyone have a clue?

I really need the records as I experienced malpractice that has cause permanent disability and am trying to link the damage to certain medications mentioned. Anyone have some ideas for what this name reads out?

I'm thinking "deforresh" but it's a rather unusual last name tbh (Searching "deforresh" on google (with the quotations), I found a death record with someone with the last name "deforresh" but nothing other than that).

note: ignore the "Lauderdale" (it's only the station name). The name in question is the one on the far left.

If anyone has ideas what the two sixes on the left "Deforresh?" also mean, lmk (IF they are even sixes in the first place)

Written on an old acetate I found. The scratched out word is "Outside" to me, but I can't make out the top one. "Lott"?

Death Record Name

Trying to determine what exactly the name is where the red arrow points. The death record states “son of (name) and (above name) both natives of Bavaria”. Thank you!

Deciphering faded text

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong sub for this question. If so, please kindly advise where I might be able to post it.

Received a canvas painting as a leaving gift from a close friend back in 2015 and the message on it is incredibly faded. I'm trying to go over it to make it last longer and restore it, but only able to make out a few words.

If anyone can decipher any of it or even advise of how I can better decipher it, I would be deeply grateful. Or signpost me somewhere.

Thank you so much!
