New railfan here with some trainspotting questions

Hey everybody,

I'm going trainspotting with some of my friends at a local crossing today in the East Bay Area, and were hoping to get some video footage of whatever comes through. My questions are:

what should I bring with me besides a camera/tripod?

What sort of safety tips should we follow? (Yes I have seen Sebastian deyoung and know basic safety rules like don't go on the tracks and ballast, but I'd like to know more)

What types of trespassing laws should I worry about at a crossing?

How can I get good pics/video footage?

What kinds of trains could we see?

Yeah that's basically everything. I'd love to learn more about trainspotting so I can go more frequently. Thanks!

lol that sounded like an email

Trains.com forums are still read-only for most subscribers. The new owner of Trains Magazine acknowledges the months-long outage and says it will be fixed "soon" but has not given a date.

Arcade & Attica 18: Fall Foliage Steam in the Empire State 2024 (4K)

Good Morning & Happy Friday Everyone! My YouTube video this week is now up, of Arcade & Attica 18: Fall Foliage Steam in the Empire State 2024 (4K) . A few weeks after the recently rebuild 18 returned to service, Fall colors began reaching peak down by the Arcade & Attica Railroad. 18 would power the Fall Foliage Excursions on the Railroad for the first time since 2017. Join me in this video, on two beautiful Fall days, with great colors along the trek from Arcade to Currier's & Return. From the Village, hilly and farm landscape of the Railroad, hope you all enjoy my coverage of Arcade & Attica 18: Fall Foliage Steam in the Empire State 2024 (4K).
