A subreddit dedicated to initiatory, traditional Wicca.
To find a coven, please go to https://www.mandragoramagika.com/
From Wikipedia:
British Traditional Wicca (abbreviated BTW) is the wording used to group a set of Wiccan traditions originating in the New Forest region of England. The most prominent of these traditions are Gardnerian Wicca and Alexandrian Wicca, but other traditions (either derived from them or claiming a shared New Forest history), such as Central Valley Wicca, are also considered to be British Traditional Wicca. In the case of some traditions (such as Blue Star Wicca), some lines are considered to be British Traditional Wicca and some are not. Obviously this wording is used outside Britain, especially in America, because in Europe this traditions are part of the classical Wicca and don't need to be defined by their British origin.
BTW paths are Mystery Traditions--this is to say they are experiental. The Mysteries cannot be explained, or described in any meaningful way. Rather, those Mysteries must be experienced; the rites and practices of BTW traditions are designed to help achieve these experiences, which are not always the same for each person. Some Subreddit rules:
-We are not interested in debating our use of the term 'Wicca'. In the context of this subreddit it refers to the initiatory, traditional path of priesthood devoted to the Lady of the Moon and the Horned God of Death and Resurrection.
-Personal attacks will not be tolerated, nor will trolling.
-We do not consider our paths to the the only ones within the umbrella of witchcraft but within the context of this subreddit use of terms such as 'Wicca' and 'witchcraft' are, unless otherwise noted, subject to the definition above.

I don’t know if there is a book out there but what I’m looking for is in one book the reason for why we are here and why we are practicing. The story of the god and goddess, his dying and resurrection etc Basically if there were a true Wiccan “bible” in story form.
Does such a book exist?
Are there any traditional Wiccan covens that don't celebrate the wheel with fire festivals evenly spread between equinoxes and solstices?
I live in a place where what I perceive as Imbolc happens a month later than "normal". So does Ostara (first days of May) and Beltane (summer solstice). Winter is long and summer is quite short.
I am thinking about how I can celebrate the wheel while keeping in touch with reality of climate around me. So I basically think "can I skip one holiday?" :)
While not everyone feels the need for a Self Dedication Ritual in order to fully commit themselves to the path of Wicca, for some, it can be a powerful and meaningful way to solidify their commitment to the path they feel is right for them.
While there are many different interpretations of how to perform a Self Dedication Ritual, I am curious about what people in this group feel is the proper method to perform this ritual?
What moon phase is right for it? What are some examples of deities that you invoke? Do you call the Quarters? Do you pour a circle of Salt? What incense do you prefer? Etc...
I know these are very in-depth questions, but I firmly believe that knowledge is power.
Thank you for your input.
As per Wiccan tradition?
My elevation to start working towards initiation is scheduled in two weeks. To be honest I'm scared shitless. There is so much introspective shadow work to do and I am scared to face that part of myself. There is a lot of actual work work to do which is overwhelming to look at and is intimidating. I don't know what the ritual actually entails which adds to my anxiety.
I trust my high priestess and priest. I know they have my best interests at heart. That will never be an issue.
I want to do this. I feel called to do this. It's just getting very real with an actual date set.
Just typed this up elsewhere and figured I’d put it here too.
Idk what anyone’s library situation is but most libraries offer free access to apps like hoopla and Libby where you can borrow audiobooks. Jack Chanek is a great author with audiobooks available on those apps. Thea Sabin’s “Wicca for Beginners” is on there and so is Thorn Mooney’s “Traditional Wicca: A Seeker’s Guide” - both are my top recommendations for folks new to Wicca.
I’d also encourage everyone to understand that absolutely no one has the “Right Information” about Wicca. First of all, there’s a weird attitude where people think that Wicca is anything they want it to be which…isn’t usually how religion works. Second, even in Traditional Wicca each coven is fully autonomous with regard to many of its attitudes and practices.
Elen Hawke has written books such as Praise to the Moon: Magic & Myth of the Lunar Cycle.
Online, I have come across these descriptions: "She is Wiccan initiate in the Gardnerian tradition, a Circlework graduate from the House of the Goddess, and a member of the Pagan Federation."
Does anyone know?
Are you aged 18 or older and interested in completing a psychology survey on religion?
Please consider participating in this 10-minute survey!
All are welcome to participate. If you are not religious that is OKAY! All are welcome to participate. All that is required is to complete a quick survey where you will fill out a survey consisting of questions regarding religion, spirituality, and connection to community. This will take approximately 10 minutes, and consists mainly of multiple-choice questions, with some short response questions as well.
You will not receive compensation for completing this survey. Link to the survey below:

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any further questions or concerns!
Curious if anyone knows if this book is available somewhere. I have not been able to find a copy.
Thank you.
Good day, everyone,
I would like to know if anyone could help confirm if the following authors are initiates:
Dr. Rebecca Beattie
Emily Carding
Elen Hawke
Thank you!
Hi everyone! I’ve already posted this in the r/Wicca community but thought I’d also try my luck here ! My name is Laurice and I’m an anthropology student at the university of Leipzig:) I’m currently writing my bachelors thesis on gender and Wicca and I would love to do a little digital ethnography! So if there are any non-binary/ non-cisgender/genderqueer Wiccan practitioners that would be interested in talking to me about the intersection of gender identity, Wicca and ritual please feel free to send me a message! I will let you know my current question that way and everything else you might need to know ! We would be chatting in messages or could schedule one call depending on what fits better :) Also if you have any literature recommendations or other feeds I could visit that would also be welcome ! Thank you so much
I’m only just starting to look into everything and wondered what are some Wiccan things that you do day to day?
If ANY of you on here could help me with this, it would be life changing. This has caused me extreme distress and I would do anything to finally fix it.
I started meditating about 5 years ago. I had done it before but not as deep as I was going. I don’t know if it was the technique or what but the method I was doing was training me to go longer and longer without a single thought.
It was simply sit down, and feel your body. That was it. If you have a thought, let it go and focus on the feeling of your body.
So longer and longer I would go without a thought over the coming months. I did this for sleep. I’ve always had insomnia since I was in middle school. And it worked! I was finally beginning to get to sleep on my own (I usually had to take an otc sleeping pill).
But something started to happen the longer this would go on. Over time, and I SWEAR this was real and I’m not making this up and it has caused me extreme distress, over time as I would meditate I would start to hear sounds. The TV would start clicking. Almost as if it would if it was cold and then got hot. Same with the knocks in the walls. The knocks would sound like an old house readjusting to different temperatures. That’s what the sounds sounded like.
Ok no big deal. Just a click in the tv or a creek in the walls. But the more I meditated, day after day the more these sounds would pick up in activity and I noticed that I wasn’t hearing them when I wasn’t meditating. Maybe once a day I would hear the sounds. So the sounds seemed to be related to my meditations themselves.
But I kept meditating, it was weird but it wasn’t anything distressing. But as the days went by I would put myself into such a deep state that when I heard a sound, I would jump out of my state real quick like you would if somebody jump scared you. And they seemed to be getting louder.
Around this time a new phenomenon started happening, I started having involuntary movements. Now when I was in that state of no thought I had sound activity picking up to jump scare me and now my arms and legs would randomly jerk. And again it seemed to only happen when I meditated. And at first the involuntary movement was light but as time would go on, my arms, legs and head would jerk more and more violently. And the weird thing was all of this stuff would affect my meditation and immediately take me out of the state I had cultivated.
But I kept meditating daily. The next thing that started happening was I would start to realize the knocks on the wall weren’t the only sounds I was hearing. I was hearing furniture moving in the other room. And now this activity was not only happening when I meditated but all the time when I was alone in my house. It got so bad one day, I was taking a shower and I thought I heard someone break into my house, it sounded like somebody kicked my front door open. And I get out of the shower to look and nothing. It got to the point where I was hearing all these noises all the time that I couldn’t tell if someone else was in the house or not.
Worst of all, the scariest part was it would also pick up its activity when I would read. It would make a noise the exact time when I would “get into the book” effectively preventing me from being able to read. It felt extremely creepy like there was a ghost deliberately tormenting me that was able to tell when my mind would get into any sort of state. It felt like a conscious entity that was sent to torment me and prevent me from going any further or any deeper into a meditative state. It also seemed to purposefully try to make me feel like somebody was in the house when I was alone.
There was an incident where I heard this super strange noise in the middle of my living room and my cat jumped almost out of her skin she got so spooked.
This activity never happened when I had someone else in the house with me.
This caused me so much despair and distress that I began to drink as alcohol was the only thing that made it stop.
It’s been 5 years since all of that and I am now sober for a month. First time being sober since this happened. When I started drinking because of all of this, I began to drink every night so I could sleep and at least have a couple hours every day to be free from the torment.
But I am ready to start practicing spirituality again and meditating, but I HAVE to know what all of that activity and torment was all about. What it was. What caused it. And how to prevent it.
PLEASE this is real, the scariest part about it that most people think it’s not real. I experienced something that should be impossible. So I had no clue who to talk to about it or how to solve it. I was very alone and trapped with this thing that shouldn’t exist.
Hello my fellow Wiccans! I am trying to make a iceberg video detailing the subjects and facts about this beautiful ancient religion. I have 5 tiers out of 6 filled and I was wondering if anyone knows of any obscure or little known facts about the craft? Please and thank you!
I am writing my B.O.S. and the next chapter is about Angels. I am searching for anyone who has knowledge about specific frequencies, sound or melodies for every Angel so we can make a ritual of it.
The Angels are: Ariel, Azrael, Chamuel, Gabriel, Haniel , Jeremiel, Johiel, Metatron, Michael, Rafael, Raguel, Raziel, Sandalphon, Uriel and Zadkiel.
In the attachment the sigils for these Angels in the same order.
Blessed Be
Hello r/TraditionalWicca,
I am starting to downsize and clear out and I think it is time to pass along some of my well loved books. Please comment down below and I would be happy to mail these books to randomly selected commenters.
I have:
I know this must be a very common thread, but I'm looking for some slightly more specific book recommendations than just beginner books (although beginner is good).
Specifically, I'm looking for book recommendations for men who are interested in witchcraft. So many of the books I have or have come across are very much aimed at women, even a witch market I went to recently was mostly women's clothes and other things aimed towards women and despite my partner having looked forward to it, he ended up not particularly enjoying himself.
He wants to learn about witchcraft and it interests him, but I'm not sure where he should start or where to direct him. One of my books he tried to pick up talked about how the Goddess and the God are equal, but the Goddess is more important - it felt like Animal Farm where all the animals are equal, but some are more equal than others!
Also, are there any male witches that can offer their perspective on this?
Hi there, I’m a research student at Nottingham Trent University conducting interviews on Wiccans who have had a parent that was also a Wiccan or a Pagan. If you or someone you know has parents who are also Wiccans & would be interested, please contact me either here or on my email. I’ve attached an information sheet on the specifics of the interview however if you have any additional questions, I’m happy to answer them any way I can. Thank You!
Hello everyone and happy summer! I am currently a thesising student and I created a survey for my project! The topic of the survey is on religion and personality. The survey will only take 10-12 minutes to complete. If you are interested, I have attached a link to it! If you have any questions please feel free to reach out! Thank you!
What are the requirements of creating your own Traditional Wicca?
For example: you made a coven named Golden Girls Coven....and you call the Tradition you follow the Golden Traditional. But no one follows these values except for you and those in the coven. At least until they hive off to form their own coven within the same teachings and tradition.
Does that make sense?
Can anyone here give a suggestion on the best way to be able to see people’s auras and how to read them?
Also book recommendations strictly for how to see auras and read them would be great.
Somebody I work with is really getting to me, and always hanging around me. How do I make it that they aren’t (but of course not in a way that negatively effects anyone). I’m at my tether

Hi all, my name is Lindsey. I have been practicing Paganism for about five years now. I am also a psychology doctoral student. My doctoral research is on our community and our experiences as Pagans. Below is a link to my survey. It takes about 20 minutes and is completely anonymous. If you could please take it, I would greatly appreciate it. You are welcome to participate if outside the US, but will need to put your country instead of state.
