This is a subreddit for all the people learning new languages to practice their writing skills, no matter how early on or far along they are on their studies.
What's this, then?
This is a subreddit for all the people learning new languages to practice their writing skills, no matter how early on or far along they are on their studies. There are at the moment three kinds of threads:
Essay threads
Every week on Monday there's going to be a new essay topic. Anyone can write about it in their target language and post it in the week's thread. There are five length requirements from which you can choose the one best fitting your level, but if even the shortest one seems like too much, you can write less - this is especially to help people who are learning agglutinative languages, where complex words are formed by stringing together morphemes, making the word count much shorter.
New topic every Monday at noon-ish! (UTC +2)
Discussion threads in a certain language
These topics can be started by anyone in any language, and any kind of discussion is allowed! You can pick a certain topic, or you can have a free discussion about whatever pops into anyone's mind. These posts' topics should be in the target language, and also tagged with the language's name in English to help searching. Examples:
[English] Let's discuss about something! How was your day?
[Finnish] Hölökynkölökyn, mämmi sauna salmiakki, ilmaveivi Leijonat!
Discussion threads in any language
These are also free for anyone to start! The point of these is to talk about a given topic in any language you want, and also translate your comments in English so anyone can read them and answer to you in their target language. Tag your thread with [Any Language] and write the topic in English. Example:
[Any Language] What is your opinion of onions?
Here's a question most frequently not asked:
"I just started two weeks ago, can I participate?"
Yes, you can! If you know one grammatical structure to form a sentence (e. g. "x is y", or "the house is green"), you can use that. Don't know any words? Use the dictionary! Not sure about how to conjugate right? Don't worry about that! This isn't a classroom, we just want to make sentences. Making mistakes is unavoidable in learning, and here it is absolutely okay to make mistakes!
