I know that this show tended to delve into philosophy every other episode but this is the one that I think about the most and I don’t see many other shows explore the mentality of people who are in-between two different worlds
I actually really like Torchwood’s take on it purely because I think there definitely would be people who’d be so unbearably bored with normality knowing that there’s so much extraordinary stuff going on out there whether it’s on earth or out there in the stars
I know that the fandom’s opinion on Gwen is a little iffy but I personally 100% understood what she meant when she and Jack revealed their ‘true selves’ to each other, as a team they suffered through so much, even losing more than half of their original team but Gwen became so enthralled by the wonder of it all that it barely even phased her, in fact she loved every minute of it because she felt so special, I mean how many people get to experience what she did?
I know Gwen gets a lot of flack for this and rightly so but I for one don’t really judge her for shutting Rhys out for the majority of time she was in Torchwood because from her point of view, he’s represents the ‘normal’ side of her life like in the opening of 1x11 where they’re on a date on her night off and she’s completely uninterested in everything that’s going on around her, including him because it’s ‘normal’ like she’s become so addicted to Torchwood at this point and danger is all that she craves, again I’m not saying she’s right and Rhys has very right to be upset with her but from Gwen’s perspective it makes total sense
In the first episode alone we had Susie mentioning how the job takes over and completely consumes your entire being
Apologies I know this was a lengthy post but this is something that I’ve always wanted to get off my chest about this show because this aspect resonates with my weird self lol
I can’t find the cd of aliens among us 2 anywhere. I’ve checked eBay, big finish and Amazon and nothing comes up when I google it. Could someone send me a link to where it is available or let me know where you got it from? Is there a reason it isnt available anywhere becuase the other two aliens among us box sets are.
While it's one of my favourite episodes, it is also one of my least favourite to rewatch because it makes me sad. So after all this time I am unsure what Tosh hears from Ianto's thoughts, when she is wearing the necklace.
Can someone remember?
in s1 e10 toward the start of the episode theres a poster in the background that catches my eye everytime i rewatch, i think about it so often and i want it as a poster in my room but its too blurry to do anything with and i cant find anything about the poster anywhere. i was just wondering if anyone has recreated it or happens to have a clearer image of it that i could work of
Hi, I was chatting to one of my friends about the audios and I vaguely remember that there was one which mentioned Ianto putting sandwiches in the pockets of Jack’s coat incase he got hungry?
It’s possible I completely made this up but if anyone has any clue which audio this is please let me know! I’m not sure whether it’s Big Finnish or BBC unfortunately.
Thank you :)
The contrast between Martha and the Torchwood team in S2, and then the whole 2.12 Fragments episode, are really highlighting what time with the Doctor does to people.
Jack comes back from the year that never was with a certain level of security and his sharp corners softened. Martha shows up with confidence, capability & experience like a healthy human being who also has problems, desires & a past - but who doesn’t spend time ricocheting off the walls and smashing into people like Owen/Gwen do. She isn’t intimidated by Jack or pining for someone like Tosh & maybe even Ianto - S3 DW Martha obviously had a problem with that of her own, but was with a person who still allowed her to develop and move on.
All the intros Fragments show people struggling, or suffering. They’re companion origin stories. How different would Ianto or Owen be if the doctor had found them? As for Tosh - omg - with 9 or 10 having her back she’d be thriving & unstoppable right??? Likewise, if Martha or Rose had met Jack before the Doctor 😬? (Headcanon: Donna Noble would still be Donna Noble). Gwen/Yaz are right there as parallels, ignoring the execution of it.
Anyway, I’m sad for the TW team. Give them all a TARDIS trip. Make it part of mandatory new-joiner training.
The way it just gets glossed over and forgotten about. I hated her after that. Rhys deserved better
She was the kindest, she never cheated on her partner. She deserved a happy ending and her death was probably the saddest for me.
a few audios from the monthly range are on sale, too
In the fic in question Jack meets Torchwood One representative Ianto during a multiple day conference in London. I believe they are introduced by Archie (T2). They hit it off instantly and spend the night.
Back in Cardiff the team teases Jack about his good mood which is highly unusual after a conference like that.
Some time later Ianto calls Jack because he needs help in saving the children of a T1 alien prisoner? And the prisoner only communicates in pictures and visions?
Maybe it's two fics I've mistakenly remember as one and that's why I can't find it. It's driving me a little crazy and I'd be grateful for any hint.
Hello all! I have been an average Torchwood fan since it came out in the early 2000’s. I am currently rewatching the tv series and wanted to know where I should start if I want to listen to the audio series and read the books?
Where should I start? It feels overwhelming with the amount of content. I also am a bit mixed up on what the order of the audios is and where they fit into the tv series storyline.
Would appreciate any help!😄
posting this late but i drew it yesterday so its fine
Taken from the Torchwood "Children of Earth, Day Five"
"Back in the old days. I wanted to know about that Doctor of his. The man who appears out of nowhere and saves the world. Except sometimes he doesn't. All those times in history when there was no sign of him, I wanted to know why not. But I don't need to ask any more. I know the answer now. Sometimes the Doctor must look at this planet and turn away in shame."
Sorry if this doesn't fit the the subreddit but this resonates with me.
Does anyone have a rip of one of the Torchwood sound effects? Specifically the one that's part of the main theme that's like... Boo doo boo doo? They play the effect whenever they bring up Torchwood in a Doctor Who episode.
Just rewatched miracle day, and it really stood out to me how Jack is so much less knowledgeable and worse at his job compared to the rest of the series, making rookie mistakes. It’s almost like they had to make him less professional to make rex appear more so.
I'm currently showing my Grandma Doctor Who for the first time (up to satan pit), and I want to show her Torchwood as well. I can't decide the order though. I was thinking to mix it in with season 3 of Doctor Who (Smith and Jones-Lazarus Experiment, then Everything Changes-Random Shoes, then 42-Blink, then Out of Time-End of Days, and then Utopia), or watching it between Series 2 and 3. What do you think I should do?
I'm currenrly at my local theatre to see John Barrowman Live and I got this little Tardis pin that I absolutly love!
I'm going to see John Barrowman LIVE at my local theatre in about an hour and I'm really excited! I got the tickets as a birthday gift not too long ago. Apparently its a talk about his life and career which I'm sure will be really interesting! It's my first time meeting a cast member from torchwood but my second meeting a doctor who actor (I met Colin Baker earlier this year).
Not sure if this is the right place for this but I'm looking for some imput on a college project of mine. I'm currently studying photography at college and am working on a project that explores the effects of humans in different places and I've decided to photograph Cardiff Bay for my final images.
For this project we have to provide some information about the area and how it has changed over the years as a result of human effect. I've lived in Wales all my life and have been to Cardiff Bay countless times over the years soI am looking to find out (from both Welsh and non Welsh people who have visited/want to visit/dont want to visit after watching Torchwood) how you think Torchwood as a series (and possibly some of Doctor Who) has effected Cardiff Bay, whether it be a visual change, tourism, the popularity of the area or just generally what you think about Cardiff Bay and how it would be different if Torchwood was set/filmed somewhere else, what part of Torchwood made you want to vist. E.t.c
This project is due in just under 2 weeks so any input would be much appreciated! Also if this should be posted somewhere else please let me know! Diolch 🏴
Torchwood can now legally:
Idk get pissed in a park on behalf of it or something 😭
