Losing mind deciding where to camp for bday week

Community - please help… I am driving myself mad going in circles about where to spend 10 days for my (37th) birthday mid April.

We have a super old RV rig, and I am trying to decide between Surf Grove and Bella Pacifica. I like the vibes of BP (have stayed before) but would really like to stay on a beach I can surf on without driving because it’s a big pain to move the old RV. I know Cox Bay is great surfing, but would the waves be beginner friendly in April? Or woujd Mackenzie beach just be flat? I know obviously it’s hard to predict, but just asking for historical / typical experiences of those who have lived and experienced Tofino a while

Oh and I have OCD which doesn’t help at all with decisions

Much thanks! 🙏

Fresh fish in October/November?

Currently visiting in Tofino and looking to get some fresh fish, I know it’s currently off season but I was wondering if there was any possible way to get fresh fish right now?

Arts-based research opportunity: Contraceptive care

Hi all --

I am a PhD candidate at UBC's School of Nursing and am conducting this research as a part of my dissertation. We are interested in understanding more about the way that we talk about contraceptives and how that might impact contraceptive care. At this time, we are recruiting cisgender women and people who can get pregnant to participate in arts-based research to discuss their experiences with controlling their fertility and/or contraceptive care. Participants will be asked to create a collage related to contraceptive care and experiences which will then guide a one on one virtual interview. Supplies for the collage can be mailed. An honorarium is provided

Please see the attached poster for more information regarding inclusion criteria and what to do if you are interested. If you have any further questions, please contact me at kermar@student.ubc.ca

Please note: We are also recruiting health care providers that currently prescribe contraceptives in British Columbia. If you are interested in participating as a health care provider, please see the following link.

Driving to Tofino in the Dark in November

I am planning a trip in November for the Remembrance day long weekend. I plan to take the 3:45 pm ferry, arriving in Nanaimo at 5:25 pm.

I understand the stretch of highway from Nanaimo to Tofino used to be treacherous in the past, but it's better now. I have an AWD vehicle with snow tires, but not really familiar with the route. Can this be done in the dark?

If so, anyone can suggest a place to stop for dinner? Thanks!

Is Whistle Dead?

Used Whistle to get around last year, someone was telling me that it's dead now and there's a different rideshare app. What's up?

Best sunset in Tofino in August

Hi. I'm planning my trip to Tofino and would like to see the sunset for the two or three best locations. As of now, I'm considering:

  • Cox bay lookout
  • Chesterman Beach
  • Wickaninnish Beach
  • Radar Hill

Having to select three, which would you recommend?

Found ring

I was in Tofino last weekend and found a man’s silver ring (or just a large ring) on Cox beach. I realize that it might have been lost a long time ago but figured I would put this out there anyway. If you’ve lost a ring or know someone that has and can describe it I’ll send it in the mail to you. It has an interesting centre stone. Thanks y’all

Any sober support groups in tofino?

Love this town but it’s too easy to fall into self destructive patterns. I want to stay here and be healthy and happy but it’s always the same shit. I want to make recovery my number one priority but it’s so hard and isolating sometimes

Do you know of any summer serving jobs with free or cheap accomodation?

Hey! I’m an Albertan Server with a lot of experience around the parks here (Jasper, Banff, Waterton) but I’d like to make my way to Tofino for next summer season!

Do you have any recommendations or tips on where to apply?

Big Tree Trail: Is it open in Fall/Winter?

Hey folks, just looking to plan some hikes for November. It seems the water taxis still take people to Meeres Island for the Big Tree Trail, but I can't find anything online that says if it is "open" during November. We want to make sure we aren't damaging the boards due to how muddy it can get. TIA!

Dress code at the Great Room?

I'm planning to have dinner at the Great Room. I took a look at the site to see if there is a dress code and it doesn't appear to be any:

https://www.longbeachlodgeresort.com/cuisine/great-room.html

I'm planning to walk right in after going hiking for the day. I think my hikers will be a little muddy and my shirt won't have a collar. Will I feel out of place or should I pack something that is smart causal?

Eik Landing?

Is Eik Landing a viable (legal) option as a VRBO or no? In reading provincial and the municipal guidelines it seems not… yet there it is on VRBO.

Can anyone local please explain what’s going on? We go there every couple years and have nearly always stayed at one of the units in Eik. We would like to go there again in Aug 2025 - but we want to make sure we’re aren’t breaking any rules.

Police check (both ways) junction - any ideas?

Just came back to tofino via port and was stopped by an officer inquiring about where I was heading. I said home and he sent me on my way. They were also blocking and inquiring about folks leaving.

Seems like an odd spot and time of day to do a dui check.

Any ideas? 🤔

I want to propose to my GF on the Island

I want to propose to my GF on the Island

I want to propose to my GF on the Island. I was originally thinking Victoria but I’ve noticed there isn’t anywhere with the ocean visible without any land in front.

I’m not local to the island but I’m from the Okanagan. My girlfriend and I are taking a trip to Victoria in Spring 2025. I have the general idea of the scenery I would like to propose at, but I figured local people could help me out in picking the most perfect spot. I’ve decided on Ucluelet, or Tofino I think.

I want it to be private, without many people around (the less the better!). I’d like it to be by the ocean facing west, since she’s never seen the ocean without land in sight. Looking on Google maps I realize it’d probably have to be a little bit out of Victoria but that’s okay.

Can anybody recommend places that aren’t too crowded, nice ocean view, and somewhere for a friend to take photos from a little bit of a distance?

Thank you all in advance!
