I am not a Tim Minchin stan, but I saw him live once and he was terrific. iirc, I saw him at Tarrytown Music Hall in Westchester, NY, ca. 2009-2011 (or at least somewhere in the lower Hudson Valley). I'm trying to recall what and when the concert was, but any time I try to search Tim Minchin and Westchester/Tarrytown, all I uncover are historic performances of Matilda The Musical at TMH. Does anybody know what concert I'm referencing? Thanks!
I remember about 20 years ago the first tim minchin special I ever saw. In the beginning he walks on stage completely silet and acts very creepy for about 10-20m, only then starts an awkward routine and it picks up through the show with the songs and everything. Can anyone bychance link to that show? Would love to see it again.
I have been A fan of Tim Minchin for a while now. In even went to see him during atAn Unfunny* Evening With Tim Minchin And His Piano but what do you guys think of not necessarily the same. As a matter a fact he is much more juvenile than Mr. Minchin but I just started r/Kyle_Gordon and I wanted to see how much crossover there is in the communities.
Hi there,
I very much love this musical and I always get upset when I hear the equalizer (or however they call it) over Tim‘s Voice. Do you all know of a version if the musical that‘s not ‚remastered‘?
I always thought his comment about "tough lyrics" meant that it's hard to hear the F-word used so much that it was difficult to get through.
But after hundreds of listens I decidid to decipher the one lyric I could never quite understand. Eventually, I gave up and looked it up, and it's "If you unthinkingly brand me an unthinking apostate".
I used to think it was sort of jibberish, but it's really a great way of calling out hipocracy. When I'm sharing this song with people, I have to let them digest the whole song, and then go back and talk about that one lyric. It's typical Tim genius.
So I had this weird realisation, which you might completely disagree with.
I cued up 'Blow Up the Pokies' by The Whitlams and quickly thought "That sounds like Tim Minchin". Then I listened to No Aphrodisiac (Like Loneliness), and it hit even harder.
Has anyone noticed this before or am I off my rocker?

This was run as a competition on the Minchkins facebook group - no prizes any more but you might want to have a go for fun!

It's pretty tricky, but looking for answers on the internet is totally allowed!
Obviously he’s a comedic genius but some of his more serious songs are genuinely special
Anyone remember a video from Tim singing/stand up in a small yellow bar. Called clown something or has some connection to clowns?
Does anyone remember the alt-rock band The Verve Pipe? They had a big hit song called The Freshmen back in the 90s, and it’s spooky how much the singer’s vocal timbre sounds like Tim Minchin!
Met Tim on his book tour yesterday i was a bit star struck but lovely talking to him he was so nice and it was nice to see all the fans talking about Judas, Dark side, and Canvas bags i was truly with my own kind.
I bought the autographed version of TM's new CD Apart Together and have ripped it so I can listen to it remotely, but I have a new dilemma: what Apple Music genre do I assign? I see TM as a contemporary composer, not a comedian, so comedy is out. This collection of songs isn't particularly comedic, anyway, so no problem there. Pop? Maybe but he's above that category.
Thoughts?
BTW– if anyone knows Andrew Murabito, the designer at We Art You who put together the album packaging, please give him the finger for me. The booklet inside cover contains a letter from TM written for the album BUT IT'S TOTALLY ILLEGIBLE thanks to the piss-poor design choice of making it TM's handwriting REVERSED against a very busy photo background. I'll bet it looked great at actual size but it becomes Sanskrit gibberish when reduced and printed onto this heavy, uncoated stock.
Hey! I saw Tim in DC last week. Does anyone remember the Latin that was written on his arm and the translation of it? Thanks!!!
Okay so I was at the NYC show on Sunday, and he did a little talk about how he came to realize he was conservative and then he mentioned he was very progressive…I feel “progressive conservative” is an oxymoron and I’m wondering if maybe I didn’t quite understand the tangent he went on. He started out talking about how in Australia, you get ragged by the media if you come off as neutral or like you’re not saying anything, but then he lost me a bit after he said he was conservative.
Can someone who was there maybe give me an ELI5? I thought that was very surprising to hear from him and am wondering if maybe I just didn’t understand something.
Aeroplane came up in my Smart Shuffle on Spotify earlier this summer while I was at work, and I literally stopped dead in my tracks to listen to it, and actually started to tear up at one point because it genuinely touched me.
I’ve been trying to learn piano and then this song inspired me to try and play guitar. I have both a guitar and a keyboard and ideally would love to learn both the guitar and piano part. I found a tutorial on YouTube that sounds a little off and I can’t find anything with the piano.
Would anyone be able to help me with this? It would mean the world to me :)
(priority is the guitar piece, piano would be nice but I won’t be too torn up if I can’t find it)
Seeing the show a couple nights ago has sent me down a Tim rabbit hole, as happens every so often. The Unfunny theme of the show reminded me that I’ve never picked up a physical copy of Apart Together - then I found these!
Does anyone have a digital copy of this album that they can share? Saw Tim for the first time Sunday, he played a song from this album and I would really love to give it a listen. I have seen partial track listings on YouTube but would really like to give the full album a play if anyone has a digital copy that they can share it would really be appreciated! TIA
Obligatory mention that the show was incredible, will probably gush in separate post.
Second or third song was introduced as a song about determinism but I didn’t recognize it. Possibly from his broadway work. Anyone know which one it was? I went through everything on Spotify and nothing seemed to match up.
I’m seeing Tim in Manchester, England on Sunday in conversation about his new book. Just keeping up with here and his stories, his schedule is crazy brutal. I’m a touring actor and the travelling kills you, it’s just as exhausting as performing. Hope he’s getting some kind of downtime.
