I need help with finding out the real lyrics to the Real Mckenzies song "Sawney Beane Clan". I don't really listen to Real Mckenzies, since it's not really my thing, but I love the song "Sawney Beane Clan". However, when I read the lyrics, they were FAR from what I heard in the song itself. Every site I go to to read the lyrics, the lyrics go like this:
Go ye not by Gallowa
Come bide a while, my frein
I'll tell ye o the dangers there –
Beware o Sawney Bean
There's nae body kens that he bides there
For his face is seldom seen
But tae meet his eye is tae meet your fate
At the hands o Sawney Bean
For Sawney he has taen a wife
And he's hungry bairns tae wean
And he's raised them up on the flesh o men
In the cave of Sawney Bean
And Sawney has been well endowed
Wi daughters young and lean
And they a hae taen their faither's seed
In the cave o Sawney Bean
An Sawney's sons are young an strong
And their blades are sharp and keen
Tae spill the blood o travellers
Wha meet wi Sawney Bean
So if you ride frae there tae here
Be ye wary in between
Lest they catch your horse and spill your blood
In the cave o Sawney Bean
They'll hing ye ap an cut yer throat
An they'll pick yer carcass clean
An they'll yase yer banes tae quiet the weans
In the cave o Sawney Bean
But fear ye not, oor Captain rides
On an errand o the Queen
And he carries the writ of fire and sword
For the head o Sawney Bean
They've hung them high in Edinburgh toon
An likewise a their kin
An the wind blaws cauld on a their banes
An tae hell they a hae gaen
However, all the versions of the song I have listened to, those are clearly not the lyrics to the song. And the frustrating part is that I can't find the lyrics to the version I keep coming across, and I have a hard time understanding the singing sometimes, possibly because of the heavy accent and the singer's voice during the song.
Here's the version I keep hearing for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vb8Bvujgd1o
Is there another version of the song that I didn't listen to? And what are the lyrics to the version I'm listening to?
Paul McKenzie claims to have had more than a hundred band mates over the years. My only question would have to be; what level of asshole would you have to be to cycle through so many people? Keep in mind, his former manager and bassist won't talk to him, and he's banned from a restaurant another of his former band mates runs.
All from a band front man whom, if Walt Disney himself had heard, would find the only objectionable element to be the "Scottish influence."
I have 2 tickets for their show next week if anyone is interested in taking one of them
Hello. I only just discovered this band and I'm pretty into them. My favorite song so far is Chip, but I'm a bit confused about the lyrics. Why are the bucket of nails and copper "too much to resist"? Chip is a shipwright so they must be useful materials for his job, but he's not self-employed ("He lost his job and had to join the King's Navy") so his employer should supply the materials he needs. Copper might fetch a pretty penny, but not a bucket of nails. So why would Chip trade his soul for them?
they are amazing, I love their music, and I wish more people listened to them. not that many people Listen to Celtic Punk anyways, but I just wish there were more fans out there, you know?
It was awesome and I deeply regret I had to leave halfway through the set. I literally jumped off the stage after making some noise with the boys and left the venue.
I hope the guys will read this (they probably won't idk) but, like I said, I had a real blast and I hope the next time they'll perform in the NL, I'll be there. Kilt and all and hopefully for a complete set!!
