For anyone that’s been to Horst festival, just debating where we should stay - anyone got any advice? It says on the website there’s shuttle buses but doesn’t say the destinations. I think we basically just want to stay somewhere relatively easy to get back to once it ends. Thanks.
Had no clue he dropped a new album in 2024 and he’s performing this year. Love him! His Boiler Room is among the best I’ve ever seen
hi all,
was discussing music with a colleague of mine and she's of Indian descent. I've shown her a couple of interesting shows on NTS regarding ragas and Indian classical and also some of Four Tet's work (like the morning/evening release)... and she enjoyed all of that.
anyway, it got me thinking: does anyone know some more Overload-leaning music that has some kind of Indian influence? it could be a raga influence (not Jamaican ragga, which is also sick), or the percussive side, the instruments, the vocal styles in Indian classical... etc
i've got plenty of electronic music that leans into African and Middle Eastern sounds (which I also appreciate), but not so much from the world of Indian music (which is a huge world of music in itself!)
just curious what else people might know, that i've missed or am just unaware of!
thanks:)
hi all,
I’ve been getting down to some stuff from Down Under and was wondering what else is on your radar, from that part of the world?
for example, i’ve been a fan of Tornado Wallace for years, and Fantastic Man too and have been enjoying the Basic Spirit releases (RIP Jamie). I’ve also come across the Animalia label via the Overload and have been enjoying their take on a proggy/dubby sound.
so what else is coming out of Oz that might be Overload-ish?
cheers:)
Nouveau Monica - Universal Mind Chaos Live
Bjarki sent me the box set last month and it finally arrived ahead of the scheduled digital release in February. I’ve had some time to dive into it and fully take it in. The music speaks for itself, if you know Bjarki’s music you will recognize a lot of the sounds from previous releases but in a new and fresh context. It is a concept album through and through and puts my stereo through its paces.
If you have ever seen him live, you’ll know even for DJ sets nothing he does is halfway. This record stretches sonically from the lowest end through some impeccable ambiance. Being that it is meant to be listened to as an album, it’s hard to call out any single track but that said, it picks up on side two and really starts making space in my head around “Puppet Parade” & “Healing from Memory” and then just continues to dazzle until the end.
I have always connected to his style, as a person who came up with the rise of IDM and someone who puts Boards of Canada & Aphex Twin on my Mt Rushmore of music. This record instantly goes into a place in my collection that will put it on heavy rotation, but will also be a challenge because it demands your full attention instead of being music for dinner parties.
Anyways, it releases next month digitally, so if you aren’t willing to put money down before then, at least bookmark it on Bandcamp for when it does drop.
Absolutely desperate to know what this track is if anyone can ID it? Love the scatty kick drum and lush pads!
