This sub is for individuals with learning disabilities/SLD, but everyone is welcomed. It also acts as a reference point for the SLD network in the context of informational material and clutter prevention.

Special Education Experiences for Linguistically Diverse Families.

Hello everyone. I have never used Reddit before, but I decided to use it for my research paper. I'm an RSP teacher/IEP case manager and a graduate student. For a research paper my teammate and I are writing a research paper on language discrimination in special education. We want to learn from the experiences of parents who do not speak English and want to know how they are treated for not speaking the language. We live and work in areas that have a huge Hispanic population, and many of the school staff are Hispanic and bilingual, so the experiences at our work locations are different than the experiences of guardians whose children go to schools where the majority of the community members and school staff are monolingual.

We created this Google form to gather data, so if you don't mind, can you fill out this form and share it with any parents, guardians, etc? We really appreciate it. (Especially since we are in a crunch lol)

I embedded the link twice, but here it is again if you have any issues: https://forms.gle/wpc4K2WnYYNz8qHS6

The survey is in English and Spanish, but we want to hear from everyone who is linguistically diverse, not only Spanish speakers.

I will also ask for input in any other relevant subreddit and will remove the post once we gather enough data. Sadly I couldn't post on the teachers subreddit because they don't allow surveys/forms/interviews

Again, thank you so much, and I appreciate your time. :)

🌟 Introducing Highlightly: Revolutionizing Reading for Neurodivergent Readers! 🌟

Hey everyone,

I’m Dyslexic and struggled at University to make it through all my readings especially whole books when I was expected to skim read. I found that this was a common challenge among friends who were also dyslexic or had ADHD. Screen readers were great. However they weren’t able to help when I had to read a whole book, this could still take hours.

Being a computer science major, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I developed an algorithm that identifies the key sentences in a document and highlights them. What sets Highlightly apart is that it doesn't just highlight in isolation; it does so within the context of the entire document. This feature is a game-changer for students and professionals who need a comprehensive understanding of the material. It allows you to focus on the key concepts while filtering out unnecessary fluff, facilitating efficient skim reading.

I've transformed this concept into an iOS app, and I'm eager to connect with students and professionals who might benefit from it. I want to learn what works and what doesn't, as I'm on a mission to enhance the reading experience for all neurodivergent individuals. Your input would be invaluable in achieving this goal. If you're interested in giving Highlightly a try, you can download it here on iOS: Highlightly on the App Store.

Your feedback and support are greatly appreciated. Together, we can make reading more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Thank you for your time! πŸ“šπŸš€πŸ’™

For my research, I am looking for potential participants with dyslexia

Hello, I am currently enrolled as a student in the Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine programme at Vilnius University, pursuing a Master's degree. My intention is to conduct research on medical professionals with dyslexia. I am looking for people who have been diagnosed with dyslexia and who are employed in the medical profession, including roles such as nurses, doctors or any specific branch or speciality within the field of medicine. This information is relevant to my current study. There is a lack of registered or verified cases of adult dyslexia in Lithuania. I am facing challenges in recruiting participants for my study. The research will be conducted using an interview approach. The personal information of the participants will not be published or shared in any other way. I am providing a link for you to submit your contact details to facilitate communication between us. Thank you for your cooperation.

Selection criteria for participants:

(1) be at least 18 years of age; (2) have a formal diagnosis of dyslexia; and (3) be in clinical practise.

Does anyone else use chatGPT + dictation to write better?

TLDR: I made a free ios keyboard app to make this smoother

I got into the habit of using text-to-speech, and chatGPT to rewrite my transcriptions to sound much better than it would it I was just talking. A dyslexic friend of mine does the exact same thing.

It's really annoying to do this on my phone though! So, I decided to build an iOS keyboard which has better speech to text than Apple, and chatGPT "rewrite" and "correct" buttons and voice commands built in. It makes my life a lot easier.

After some friends used it too, I got inspired to make it public and see if it's helpful to any other folks who have trouble with written letters.

It's completely free right now even though it costs me money to run, and I plan to keep it that way unless it starts getting too expensive to run out of my pocket πŸ˜…

I'd love to hear if you have your own unique flows that make writing well, professionally or casually, much easier despite our hurdles.

Click here if you wanna check out the app. Let me know if find it useful or need me to make some changes to make it useful for you please! It was fun to make :)

Tool to summarise text

I’m dyslexic myself and at university it was hard to make it through all the readings I was assigned and to pick out the key information as I couldn’t skim read, so I built highlightly and now I want to share the beta with the community and see what you think. Would love to hear any feedback good or bad and know how I can improve this tool. Please share it with anyone you think it would be useful for so they can become a reading rockstar too. Check it out: www.highlightly.app Highlightly
