Would you want to see “the Batman” in James Gunn’s DCU?
Here is a small theory and notes about possible deeper corruption…let me know your thoughts!
I think a villain with authority would make a nice change of pace to the usual ‘villain goes on crime spree and Batman investigates and eventually defeats them’ trope.
The Batman 2 could end up being a conspiracy theory movie with Batman uncovering the truth about patient abuse and other dodgy ongoings in Arkham Asylum that go back decades, with Strange eventually revealed to be the one at the centre of it all.
They could even tie it in with Martha’s time in and out of the institution, with Martha’s mental illness being revealed to not be as it seems, giving Strange and the whole conspiracy a personal connection to Bruce Wayne.
So one of the theories I’ve heard before is that the sequel will include an imposter Bruce Wayne who frames Bruce for murder. Also Harvey Dent would be the one prosecuting Bruce. My question is, say the off chance this did happen. How would the movie go about Batman? I know Bruce’s arc outside the mask will be shown more in the sequel no doubt, but the movie is called The Batman. So my question is say Bruce is incarcerated for a bit, how would he continue being Batman? Yes bail but I feel like for a murder charge he would get no bail because he could be considered a flight risk with the money he has. Thoughts?
Where said tortured anti villain who went on a vengeful killing spree but spared the one innocent person who was never cruel to them, sees that their decent act of sparing someone innocent has backfired? Where the impact of the murders they did commit has given that innocent person a lifetime of trauma?
That basically describes both Arthur Fleck/Gary and Sofia Falcone/Gia.
I'd go for an inverse of the final shot of The Batman perhaps.
That final shot: Batman on his motorcycle, driving back to Gotham still with some unfinished business even with this change he's gone through. A close up shot. Having had to let Selina go her own way.
A final shot of Part 3: Batman on his motorcycle, driving back to Gotham. By comparison, the sky is clearer, the camera is pulled back and despite still having to fight crime, there's the sense that he's left this stage of his life behind and has gained a general form of clarity. Can imagine Giacchino's ending theme playing without the last intense riff.
I don't know if a more boring/ bland character has ever been created in entertainment history lol so I just wanted to hear what you all thought since there's a lot of speculation that his character might become "Scarecrow"
I noticed a lot of inspiration from lots of different books in the Penguin and the Batman so far and wanted to know if you guys spotted anymore that I couldn’t find.
The Mark of Zorro by Johnston McCulley: reference by Carmine to Bruce
Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle: the dynamic between Gordon and Batman
Red Dragon by Thomas Harris and the movie Manhunter: dynamic with Joker and matches the dynamic with Hannibal and Will Graham.
The Yellow Wallpaper- Sofia’s mental breakdown at Arkham
The Bell Jar: Sofia’s treatment and “rehabilitation” in Arkham
The Godfather by Mario Puzo and the film done by Francis Ford Coppola: various visual references to the film and the story of Alberto can be seen as a reflection of Fredo Corleone
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum: Squid refers to Oz as the Wizard, he’s pulling the strings behind the scenes and is spreading false information about Sofia like the the Wizard did to the Witch of the West
Of Mice and Men- the ending of the Penguin is a dark take on the ending of Steinbeck’s classic
The Greek Myth of Oedipus- Penguin’s twisted love for his mom
Anymore that I might have missed?
Im a big fan of the suit already but had some small ideas to streamline/ improve for the sequel
Thoughts?
Even though the film got good reviews, I remember that many of the negative reviews for the film were very strange. It was as if they were against the film before it even released. I recall one journalist who gave it one star and kept deriding how dark and grim it is, despite giving glowing reviews to the Nolan films
The film has a lot of issues, but many of the negative reviews at the time felt very strange to me in that it seems they made up their mind before it even released
I felt it was even more pronounced with Joker 2019, when many critics made up their minds beforehand that they disliked the film
I've been noticing a lot of posts, be it memes or otherwise, attempting to make jokes out of, or attempting to correlate the Drifter Bruce costume with the United Healthcare CEO shooter. In short, be better. Whatever your opinions on certain real world happenings, do not attempt to tie them in with these films. It's not funny, and frankly, it's in poor taste. Any further posts like these will be removed.
Thanks for your attention.
The song is Curt Cobain recounting the time he was homeless, and i think this contrasts beautifully with this Batman being very privileged and ignorant in some places (for example bot knowing what a carpentry tool is). I think this is a really interesting idea, it reminds me of using masterpieces of classical music during scenes of horrible acts being committed. I love this cliche.
No one calls him "The Batman," in the movie so much as they refer to him as Vengeance. This title is also thematically relevant to Bruce's vengeance and the vengeance he inspires in the Riddler and how he realizes vengeance itself isn't enough and can be damaging, and so on.
Missed opportunity imo. Also kinda boring if the next ones are just called The Batman 2, The Batman 3, ... I miss the days when Batman movies had taglines.
