Kisha and Jen (the sisters) or Margie and Luke (mother and son).
Enough said.
Hey friends! I'm a recent convert to the Amazing Race. I've seen about 15 seasons, out of order. But i've been on the wikipedia pages for all of them so i've seen tons of spoilers.
When I think of the seasons token "older couple" I always think of teams that really did a great job and were big heroic characters. The first that come to mind are of course Meredith and Gretchen and Bill and Cathy.
Were there ever any older teams made out to be villians? I'd love to see that. Or older teams that just turned out to be complete duds?
I finished watching season 2, and what is the hype about Tara and Will? I may have not understood the storyline, but what happened there? Why do people call their journey "the greatest ever"? I feel like I missed some details.

Or moreso the latter half of it did. It just seemed like the entire latter half of the season their edit revolved around different "medical issues" they had that was causing them to struggle in certain tasks. For example, Penn had ADHD so he struggled in that one specific task (and editors, tell me why it was one specific task this caused an issue and not a single other one?). Or Penn had some kind of vision problem so he struggled with the counting one. Kim had anxiety, etc.
And the weird thing was that they would like be introduced in the episode and than completely "go away"/never be talked about again. I think maybe the editors were trying to give them an "underdog arc" where its like look at how these people can win the race even with these medical issues but it didn't come off that way at all. For example, they said from the beginning Penn has ADHD and therefore "so and so tasks will be a struggle" throughout the race. But the fact they mention it out of nowhere over halfway into the race because " this specific memory task" will be hard since he has ADHD. Umm, there's been many other memory tasks up to this point.
I didn't mind Kim and Penn as a team but I will say personally speaking as somebody who also suffers from anxiety, nothing about how the way the show portrayed Kim's struggle with anxiety was at all "motivating" like I think they were hoping it would be.
Watching season 12 again and I’d forgotten how much I dislike Nicholas. Not only is he rude to ticket agents and drivers, he demeans his Grandfather and makes him do all the physical challenges. He’s a jerk.
S1 premiered pretty well. A big drop went on S4, but the ratings recovered and rose on S5.
TAR reached its peak on S7 and maintained its ratings from S9 to S17.
A significant drop started on S18 and saw a great ratings resurgence in S30 but S31 didn't.
Everytime I think of a finale I think of that one challenge where the teams went to a shipping dock and had to find their individual shipping container and complete a puzzle. Does anyone remember which season this was from? I wish I had more info! all I remember is that they were there for SO long.
Anthony & Spencer, Taylor & Isaiah, and Connie & Sam (S33) (unable to return to the show after the production resumed)
Abby & Will (S34) (got COVID-19 after leg 4 of the race)
Joel & Garrett (S35) (missed out the smallest detail in the final challenge before the finish line)
Andrea & Malaina (S35) (got lost in Germany and were sent home after all other teams checked in)
Juan & Shane (S36) (accidentally driving to the wrong pizza place in the other state in the final leg that cost them the win)
Angie & Danny (S36) (losing the camera crew, which made them have to be halted before they could continue racing)
Idk what else, if you got suggestions, please comment below, these are just my picks.

Seasons with the lowest average ratings
Was anyone else baffled by this team due to their constantly changing viewpoints and the fact that they gave up on the race halfway through? I mean, we get confessionals where they flat-out state that they cared more about their friendships with Lyn/Karlyn and David/Mary to the point where they wait for them to do challenges together.
Erwin and Godwin are glaring examples of "Book smart ≠ street smarts. The premiere has a scene where they bring water guns to an airport in 2006, aka post 9/11. Not a smart thing to do.
They're also probably the most glaring case of a genre-blind team in the series since they don't seem to realize that it's a competition for $1 Million even when Lyn/Karlyn outright tell them that.
Erwin/Godwin had some skill, even managing to win leg 3 despite stopping to pay special tribute to John McCain. They were both athletic and Fast Forward fakeout on Leg 6 was a brilliant move. That's kinda where it ends though.
There's a bonus clip that likely takes place between episodes 6 and 7 where Tyler/James, Rob/Kimberly, and Dustin/Kandice discuss their shared belief that the Cho Brothers had a secret plan to drag the L/K and D/M along to easily beat them later. All of them outright agreed to yield the Cho Brothers if given the chance and all of them expected the other two teams to fall apart without the "ringleaders", so to speak.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOG6OIp2JMY
This doesn't pan out that way since >!David and Mary are the next team eliminated and Erwin and Godwin are ousted in 5th before the Yield reappears in episode 11, but it's interesting to see bonus clips like this.!<
!The Brothers have a rare moment on leg 8 where they say "It was sad seeing David/Mary fall behind, but we knew we'd have to compete with them at some point." which seems like a reasonable take, but they immediately revert back to waiting around and sticking with Lyn/Karlyn even to their annoyance.!<

There are no stupid questions here.
Haven’t seen these posted here and would hate for the incredible research done back in the day to fall by the wayside.
Presenting for everyone’s reading pleasure in this long offseason: detailed timelines of the first four seasons with plenty of extra and behind the scenes information. I loved reading these back when they first came out and it took forever to find the archived page for them, so putting it here for everyone!
I’m rewatching and am on S5. I know that Collin and Christie are horrible people but Mirna and Charla are perhaps the most annoying team in the history of TAR.
Hi there fellow TAR fans!
I am in a long hiatus and have not watched this show for years although I consider myself as a veteran, I watched the very 1st Season up to 33. So for the rest of the faithful watchers, how has the format changed since then? Did they add new twists? Is the final leg the same, predictable variation of memory tasks? What about the locations and the cast (do they follow same pattern? i.e. the villains, the exes, the athletes, BFFs, etc). Fill me in!
Told y'all I finish early this weekend - here is my last review from the underwhelming TAR 27.
I was nervous I would not like this season. Influencers can easily give the impression of being... a lot. I also hate hammy themes like this. It gives 30s Survivor to cast influencers only, and those are some of my least favorite seasons. At times, I think the season could have easily gone in that direction, but everyone felt down to earth and not excessively fame-hungry. I really appreciate that! It never got too annoying, and I think the selection of who was on the race - a diversity of age specifically, made the cast a lot stronger than it should have been. Granted, some of the aspects of the season did get tiring - the constant hashtags were a lot, and everyone did seem too polished, but they felt like actual people at the end of the day which I need more than anything when I watch Amazing Race.
In terms of story, the story's ending was a little underwhelming. I assume I don't hate Dana and Matt as many people (I'll discuss them more in detail in a moment), but they were easily the weakest and most unlikable winners of the season, when Sheri and Cole could have had a lot more decent story, and Tyler and Korey certainly deserved the win as well and would have probably been more fun to watch. Honestly, that critique, and an unsatisfying winner, are my largest detraction against TAR 28, and usually winners are not really that good most of the time, so it is not a huge hindrance.
Tasks this season were pretty good! I like the Armenia/Georgia legs. The racing tasks were always fun (notably the camels), I loved the unicycle task and that alone made me love Sheri and Cole more than before, and I loved how many thrill-seeking tasks there were this season - in the last few, these felt notably absent, so it was refreshing to see the racers enjoy the environment and encompass their inner strength when completing them. I also really liked the knapsack task. It was simple, but it was fun to watch them run around the city like chickens with their heads cut off. So overall, a lot of good challenges, and while there was a feeling of sameness this season, it also felt unique, and that's largely due to the characters and diversity of most of the tasks. Also, nothing makes me happier than when 8 teams finish at once, and I feel like both Switzerland tasks were great beyond that, with working against the models, the snowy mountain atmosphere, and even the stupid giant bench challenge.
Arguably though, I think the best part is this season was really light on the twists. The Brodie and Kurt u-turn was one of the most brutal, but effective twists in the season, and the express pass played an ultimate role in the season. But those were really it - otherwise, we got to let the team's personality and character shine through, and let stories develop naturally, mainly on an interpersonal level.
Now let's talk about characters:
Erin and Joslyn (3/10) - I didn't really get a lot from them. Their boot was kind of memorable with Erin and/or Joslyn not being able to take off from the mountain, and them also fooling around with not knowing what lunch is, but otherwise, they felt like they were there, and lacked any real complexity. Starting off at a 3/10 for the season though is honestly a feat.
Dana and Matt (4/10) - In most situations, I would be a lot lower on Dana and Matt - they felt like Flo and Zach but with a lot less complexity or fun in general. Their blow-up fight in Indonesia was also difficult to watch. BUT, I will give Dana props - as insufferable as she was on the race, she at least had an awareness of her behavior, and an explanation. She comes from a family of yellers, and I really appreciate her explaining that to us, so that we at least understand where he temper comes from. I also come from a family of yellers, so in that moment I really understood where she was coming from, even if it doesn't excuse her behavior toward Matt.
Marty and Hagan (4/10) - Kind of boring, but they had a fun boot, and the image of Hagan sourly waving to Darius and Cameron as they drive by since they brought their taxi was really unique for an ending boot.
Darius and Cameron (6/10) - Speaking of these two knuckleheads... They go home for a really funny reason, missing the main person who was taking the bags in Columbia, and it made me giggle and gave Blair and Scott/Zach and Rachel more time on my screen! They were also really likable, and I think their dynamic felt much more fleshed out for a second boot (granted the additional episode helped), but I really enjoyed their time and was sad when they left.
Brittany and Jessica - (6/10) - I love their boot episode so much. They definitely give me Heather and Eve energy from TAR 3, which is always welcome, and I love how they go home, their entitlement in the situation, everyone on the train actively hiding from them, and overall I just found them to be a solid sex appeal team on the season.
Zach and Rachel (6/10) - There's probably bias because Zach King was the only person I was remotely familiar with when I was a kid, so I liked them! I think they had some interesting and reserved dynamics while racing, which was interesting, and I think the tension boiling under the facade was interesting - but at the end of the day, even when they got aggravated with each other, they always came back together to form a team and we can see that they love each other.
Blair and Scott (7/10) - Hilarious duo, I loved how the editors always pushed the "wild daughter, calm dad" storyline, and it consistently made me laugh. They made a lot of mistakes that were always fun (notably taking Tyler's bag in Georgia or Scott taking forever in that early puzzle). Plus, I think it's their belief of understanding with Scott, where he finally sees his daughter for some more than an SM star that was believable on the season. I think it was slightly exaggerated, but I believed at the end that they were equals and I really enjoyed that storyline. Plus Blodie <3.
Burnie and Ashley (8/10) - I would be a lot higher on Burnie and Ashley if their villainy wasn't hidden until the end, but their boot episode had some excellent content. They got a little too racebotty for me unfortunately and the "we want first place story" was done better by other teams (though their delusion at the end thinking they won was hilarious).
Tyler and Korey (9/10) - I found them annoying at some points, but I think they really had a lot of the great content of the season, and I never truly found them to be a detriment. Their behavior toward Brandon, Tyler's love story with the trainer before they plunged all great stuff, and just some of their more colorful comments were so hard not to laugh at. I think their loss is also fitting (though I would have preferred them to win the whole season) because they did try their hardest and just came up short because they constantly made mistakes all season. Their cockiness in the pre-finale reinforced that.
Sheri and Cole (9/10) - Another team that I found annoying at the beginning of the season, I think they were solidified into their own team, and I loved the growing appreciation that they had for each other, as well as accepting each other's weaknesses and celebrating their strengths. Cole was always a little OTT for me to truly love them, but I think they were an enjoyable presence, had a pretty fun archetype, and were formidable and rootable underdogs on the season that almost won!
Brodie and Kurt (9/10) - I love himbos on RTV. Brodie is a himbo. Overall, they were a really likable team of dudebros, and I think it was fun for them to realize when they got under each other's skin. Brodie being a complete idiot at the challenges, gave up the express pass, and then the double u-turn to end all double u-turns ended their fate. But the funniest part about their end is that Brodie did really well in the jumping off a cliff challenge so they easily would have made the last challenge. They subverted the competent dude-bro archetype by making mistakes constantly, and it was great to see a team that dominated also falter in several directions.
Overall I found this season to be really solid! Nothing great because I do think the social media aspect got heavy, but this season was low on twists, heavy on character moments, and overall a good time. I'd give it a 6.5/10.
I've already started TAR 29, and let me just tell you I am tired of hearing the word "testicle." See you all whenever I finish this season.
This came across my FYP yesterday:

Spoiler: >!A couple allegedly saw TAR filming in Portland OR train station trying to get to Seattle!<
Do you all have a favorite scene in the show's history. It could honestly be anything. It could be a detour, roadblock, interaction with Phil at the mat, or maybe even a bonus scene.
My favorite scene comes from TAR 11 Episode 6. The scene where everyone is an the airport in Maputo once the morning arrived. You have the dramatic music as the camera pans around to multiple different teams and what they are thinking about the situation. The music was perfect for the chaos that was about to ensue. You have Charla & Mirna pulling of a genius move to go to Johannesburg before anyone else. You have Eric noticing the door to South African airlines being open upstairs and him eventually getting screwed over despite that great move. All while you have two other teams that stayed in line and that came back to bite them. You also have Teri getting frustrated this whole time. The tension and build up is just amazing.
This scene also marks the first time in the season where I really thought to myself, "One of these teams in going to be an Amazing Race Champion of all these great all-star teams." Not something I really think about until the end usually. A big reason for that is because all the teams were in the same position. And since they were all in the same spot and a great threat in Rob & Amber had just been recently eliminated, it made the race completely wide open for any team to win. I think all of the teams there could sense this as well. I think the both the viewers and teams could knew some of the teams were gonna be left far behind the leaders. This scene was the turning point for how second half of the race would unfold. And that is why I love this scene. When I think about the Amazing Race this is first scene that comes to mind.
Well, not rigged for a sure win but the way it was formatted(challenges, places, etc) to give a team some slight advantage?
Just wondering if this happened before or you thought it did.
I do not understand the hate for the Afghanimals & how they play the game. Currently rewatching their seasons because they are my FAVORITE team, I can totally see how they can come off as irritating but I think they played the game incredibly.
First of all they genuinely enjoy the traveling - bantering with the locals, having an overall great and appreciative time. They seem to be having the best time, currently watching S23 where they missed their departure time because they wanted to stay in UAE longer. What a classic.
Yes, they lie to other teams - but I never saw any of their lying as extremely malicious, they were kind of just being menaces and it was hilarious. They never intentionally gave other teams bad directions or anything like that, and there was never an intentional "sabotage". I think what the Twinnies did (stealing the Rockers' money in BANGLADESH), was playing the game nasty and was totally uncool. But the Afghanimals kind of just engaged in harmless shenanigans, like lying about how long they have been at a detour (super easy task - ugh we have been here for 2 HOURS!!), or folding up their clothes to make it seem like they hadn't gotten to a road block yet.
And let's not forget their 3rd race in the first leg - they found the shop they needed to go to and knowing other teams were following them, they yelled at each other to make it seem like they were hopelessly lost. AND IT WORKED LMAO - everyone left them alone and they got the clue alone.
IMO they are by far one of the most entertaining teams and I think they get a bad rep for "lying", when all their lies are 1. pretty transparent and 2. completely harmless.
Air Date: 20/10/2024 at 7:00pm
The final three teams battle it out in Bangkok for the winning title and $100, 000 for charity.
For the Cadbury challenge, I thought it was really dumb that Vanessa had to wear gloves because of her nail polish. They weren’t on a production line… it’s not like the company could use the product they were ripping open. So her having on polish didn’t matter in regards to any rules and regulation that the company has 🙄
Hello everyone, I am back for another review! TAR 27 took me a hot minute to get through, but if you want to read my past review on TAR 26, here it is!
A general rule of thumb with me: unless you are Survivor: Samoa, if a single character or team dominates a season, I will dislike it (and to be clear, I still hate Russell Hantz, lol). This season is no exception. There's nothing worse in my opinion when an almost entire story swirls itself around one person. Justin and Diana dominate the edit, whether it is their goal to make it to the end, or the other teams constantly talking about destroying the green team. It becomes taxing, and a lot of the teams feel underdeveloped as a result. Whether they are one-note, only about Justin and Diana, or worse, BOTH, the casting felt weak this season, and many of the boots left me nothing when they left. I also think it is really notable how many reporter/media personalities were on this season - paparazzi, TMZ, News Reporters, Cheerleaders, track stars - kind of crazy and might have contributed to how stilted this season felt at times.
I think this season also had one of my least favorite episodes so far - the penultimate one where Tiffany and Krista go home. I've heard that people like that episode, but I found it frustrating. Whether it was the constant arguing from Logan and Chris and then them WINNING, Justin hamming it up with them potentially losing, the penalty giving us false hope that Tiffany and Krista could come from behind, or Tiffany and Krista actually losing, it just gave me so much despair, and one of the perfect downfalls in RTV was just shattered and unfortunately the finale did not deliver with their downfall either. They obviously had to portray it that way, but I've never felt more frustrated than when watching that episode.
I also just didn't find the route very interesting or particularly memorable. Maybe it's because it took me a while to watch the season, but man that was just a bunch of soulless tasks that really didn't explore the culture at all. I enjoyed the one in Zimbabwe for the callbacks to TAR1 (I immediately joked that the Kevin and Drew clip was the best part of the season), and the elimination, but otherwise, it was just meh all around and felt like a cycle. I also blame Justin and Diana a bit for this, just because they came into each task as methodologically as possible, so I think that took away from any practical interest for them.
And lastly, twists and product placement! The number of u-turns this season was frustrating (plus why were they doing detours before the task started?!?!), and besides that, the entire story became u-turning Justin and Diana, and the only remotely interesting plot thread we got from that was Tiffany and Krista's mistake at the beginning. Otherwise, it led to lackluster threats that never really amounted to anything and just kept escalating as the green team ran away with it. And product placement? I made this joke last week, but I love my Fitbit as much as the next person, but shush! Enough content about heart rates! The number of steps they were getting is surprising too, if I was running around these countries I'd be getting a lot more than just 9,000!
Anyway, cast rankings:
Logan and Chris (0/10) - Do you know how bad of a character you have to be, to be lower than Justin and Diana? SUPER BAD! They have to be one of the most unlikable teams ever in the race, with their constant bickering becoming tiring and having no real narrative purpose beyond the fact that I am questioning the purpose of their relationships. I think their worst was during that India Detour where they got U-turned. Just awful bickering in front of children too! I equate them to Rob and Kimberly from TAR 10, another team that was just unlikable from the beginning.
Justin and Diana (0/10) - Good lord Justin, please just go away! Much of my discussion above is about them, so I won't go further into detail, but their story got tiring, and I find Justin's archetype to be annoying on any show (gave me Wardog energy from Survivor, if that makes sense). Their bickering was uncomfortable, Justin's suave and overconfidence also insufferable. I will give them credit for two scenes though (because any character as overexposed as they are bound to have at least one good scene). First is their trip to Schindler's factory, a moment that I feel fell flat for most teams but worked really well for them, and second is Diana giving the kiddos tattoos in India.
Kelsey and Joey (1/10) - Guys, did you know that they want to get first place? Or the fact that they want to beat Justin and Diana? Did I mention they were tired of getting second place? I wish they got any more development than being the boring all-American couple, but alas, they felt shallow, and the most clear example of Justin and Diana's effect of the season revolving around them.
Jazmine and Danielle (1/10) - I had no idea who these people were, and I honestly don't know their relationship still - best friends, I think? Are they one of the most forgettable teams of the series?
Alex and Adam (2/10) - This is a classic example of an early boot that could've had a great story, but things just did not go their way. Wish we would've gotten more time with them, but their ending was kind of awkward and they did not get a ton of characterization.
Ernest and Jin (4/10) - Fun boot episode, fun confessionalist, and overall they were one of the few teams I wish we had more time with over time (though, knowing what Ernest did in the future... maybe not?)
Cindy and Rick (4/10) - The Chac Attack was a little one-note (did you know they are doctors and can use their skills?), but I liked their presence and found them to just be generally likable. Not too many comments, but I was sad when they went!
Kelly and Shevronne (6/10) - Hilarious first boots that actually felt developed, I loved watching them fail a basic slide puzzle and going home with a thud. They go in being as bitchy as possible but fail miserably and it was just delicious to watch. Plus, I hate to say it, but the Norman Bates comment about James Earl made me cackle.
Denise and James Earl (7/10) - I think Denise and James Earl could have been really special, but I feel their storyline about acceptance took a sideline as the season progressed, when in reality that should've been the centralizing factor. Denise and James Earl's bonding was fun, and Denise herself was a good character, but I wish we had more time to watch the team grow, and not necessarily focus on their bickering as much. Also, the fact that Logan and Chris beat them last minute... ugh.
Tanner and Josh (7/10) - These two started off really well - overcoming their injury and actually being a threat to get out Justin and Diana. They were the leading narrators, and I appreciate that... and then they lost their express pass and their entire story went downhill from there. I loved their relationship with Krista and Tiffany though, that was really sweet.
Tiffany and Krista (7/10) - While I find their ending to be really lackluster and depressing, I think the build-up of their characters is pretty damn good. They gained their confidence in the race, and while they never won specifically, they were able to make it almost to the end by paving their own path. I love how they were the only people to spark drama between the teams when lying about the U-turn. I love airport fights, and that was a really fun example there, their lying straight-up was fun, and it was even better to see the Green Team take it, hook, line, and sinker. Plus, they were just really funny.
Season Ranking - 1/10. The season was a misfire on a lot of spots, and it's largely just due to a lackluster final 3 and underdeveloped teams that I didn't really find rootable, sans Tiffany and Krista. Beyond that, the route was lame.
I've already started TAR 28 (I finished TAR 27 but was really annoyed by it to write the review right after, lol), and initially coming in I was worried about the SM stars - but this season has actually been pretty good so far - spoiler alert, but I loved the first Switzerland leg! Anyway, see you when I finish that, which will hopefully be this weekend.
