The second episode is supposed to come out today who thinks its actually gonna come pit and who thinks its gonna get delayed again
Hello all, I hope the new year is treating you all kindly so far! (Sorry I have sat on this draft for a bit and haven't had time to properly post it)
Starting off its almost been about a year since we have started rebuilding the mod team here at r/Tentai, and since then we have been steadily keeping things a float without too many changes from how the sub has been run in the past.
We now have 4 dedicated mods (including myself) looking after the sub between our spare times, however many of us our busy with our day to day lives and we could always use a bit more active mods in our roster. That being said, r/Tentai still is open to covering a few more mod positions to help manage posts and comments to start off. Ideally you would have to be actively helping mod a few times a week or more and maintain an active status in our mod roster. It's not a highly demanding position, however having multiple users active during the day or night is very helpful in maintaining the sub's overall health and catching anything out of the ordinary early.
The baseline we expect from a mod will be:
Ideal qualifications we are looking for, but are not absolutely required or limited to include:
**If you wish to apply for a mod position for r/Tentai, please use the mod mail for all communication. Comments and private messages about this will be ignored**
That being said, there are some changes for the future our mod team has discussed every now and then, and if the feedback for it is positive we will either most likely implement it or run a poll for a week to see how users feel about said changes.
Some potential topics about changes include:
1.) This specific kind of post has never truly done well here upvote wise, and in a sub with 400K+ users, that lack of engagement sometimes tells me its not really all that liked when a post is too vague. Usually one or two questions a month used to be manageable, however back around September/October of last year we had something like 3-4 text only posts asked a day for a week straight which got very cluttered and required us to start removing them at our discretion to at least clean up if none were answered. We are also aware that the post frequency here is not always the most active, so your feed from our sub being cluttered by vague, unengaging topics is pretty suboptimal for all of us. especially when many subscribers are here to see some kind of content. Therefore we have been floating the idea of removing meta related text only topics/posts from being allowed and directing such questions to the appropriate subs meant for finding specific hentai media. Is this something you would all like to see?
2.) Our sub is not a dedicated furry sub, however we have in the past allowed some furry posts to be kept up as we don't specifically have a rule for it. Furry art is generally pretty divisive as you either like it or you do not, and its always been one of those topics we discuss on what to do about it should something be posted that is "too furry." As a band aid, we have been using flairs to mark said furry art, however one concern we have had is that by allowing furry art at no restriction our sub may get inundated by too much of it. This has happened before in the past, and we had to gently ask the users not to post too much furry art all at once despite it not being a clear rule. So our question is how does our audience feel about regulating furry art? Should our sub blanket prohibit furry art all together and direct them to the furry tentacle subs that probably exist, let it be completely, or keep it restricted at our discretion so that it does not become overwhelming at times?
3.) This has been a much requested feature to be added to our sub, however our team felt that it would absolutely crush our post frequency and potentially kill the sub altogether. I personally am a huge fan of giving art credit where credit is due, and sharing art and the artist is kind of what our subreddit is all about. While we initially declined to require sources on all posts when we got started, I have noticed over time many of our best posters already give credit and sources pretty frequently, and from experience where I have to find the sources anyway, its also relatively easy to do often only taking 2-5 minutes of your time, if that at all. It also has the benefit of making our jobs as moderators easier and it weeds out lower quality posts that might be posted by fake users, bots, or revealing the post comes from AI usage. So while our stance on this topic is changing to potentially require sources on all posts, if we do get a majority of users calling for the new rule, we may end up trialing it for a month or two first and see how it shakes out. Is this something you all would be for, and will you be willing to properly source the media?
4.) This is a question we often come to dread, as we do not wish to discourage an artist or insult their work in any manner, but certain realities of the way Reddit works in general must be kept in mind for the sake of keeping our sub up to a minimum standard. So far our userbase (That's you!) has been extremely kind and welcoming to many artists that do get the courage to post here, and that rocks! We wish to keep it that way. However, there has been a few select instances where some artists have posted artwork which falls far below a quality threshold that fails to gain an adequate amount of upvotes per hours its been left up for our sub (think less than 10-20 upvotes per hour depending on the time of day). Submissions that fall into this category are those that are just simple doodles on scratch paper/MS paint, lack proper artistic rendering/anatomy where characters and tentacles look flat, or in some fashion just doesn't meet the definition of "hentai." Anything that makes it abundantly clear the user posting is just starting out or does not practice art on a regulars time frame. Now while we don't want to discourage any artists from improving their skills, we personally do not feel like Reddit is always the best place to build/start a portfolio or social media account when you are just starting out. We as mods have to be mindful that every post here will be seen by thousands of people whether the quality is high or not, and some basic standards probably should be drawn more clearly to outline a bare minimum of skill to allow posting here. How to do that or how to quantify what should be allowed or not is the hard part, so where do you think we should draw the lines? Allow all posts as long as they meet the rules of the sub and are at least attempted on a professional medium (not basic MS paint or drawn standard writing paper), or do we just do minor vibe checks based upon upvotes per hour/mod vote to keep quality up similar to how we have been?
That's it for now! We have some other topics we hope to bring up in time, but if there is anything else you'd like to see, question, or comment on, you can ask in the comments below. If the comments aren't active anymore you can always message us using the Mod Mail feature!
