What if Kiyone Makibi was in the Tenchi OVAs?

Honestly, she would keep Mihoshi away from doing stupid things in the later OVAs, and in my opinion that would've been hilarious on its own right. (As a long time Tenchi enjoyer), what are your thoughts?

Kami Tenchi is based on the god of one of the Shinto sects

I found out Kami Tenchi is based on the concept of the divine of one particular sect of Shinto Buddhist syncretic thought. Here some extraxts, mainly from Wikipedia.

Konkōkyō (金光教, Konkō-kyō), or Konkō, is an independent faith with origins in Shinbutsu-shūgō beliefs. Shinbutsu-shūgō is the syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism.

Konkōkyō believers worship the spirit and energy that flows through all things as Tenchi Kane No Kami, and is essentially the energy that penetrates (and/or manifests) the universe and gives all things a consciousness; a non-omnipotent director of the workings of nature. The physical universe is referred to as "Kami’s body" within Konko texts. Tenchi Kane No Kami is also referred to as "Tenchi (No) Kami(-Sama)".

Konkokyo is a religion founded in 1859 by Konko Daijin, a farmer in Japan.

While the actual religion does not believe in Tenchi no Kami manifesting on Earth as a human avatar, since it believes the divine to have its own consciousness, even if it is a pantheistic divinity, it is not a stretch to believe such an idea would be in accord with the Konkōkyō views.

Ideas for a Tenchi Muyo hard reboot from a casual reader

Hi, I am relatively new to this subreddit and, while not a Tenchi Muyo fan, it nonetheless elicited some interest in me. But instaed of listing what I believe are the good sides and what are the bad sides of the franchising overall, I would like to share my ideas for a hard reboot. I believe there are too many different continuities, even though there is still a "main" one. The most confusing part is the different lore of some of the characters in different continuities; then the complexity of the cosmology of the Tenchi Muyo Universe.

However, I think the Tenchi Muyo franchising may benefit from a hard reboot, a new anime series, possibly coming to be in the 2030's, becoming the new main Canon and putting all what was before into a different timeline, and not merely a different universe in the same timeline, the way has been done several times. Here are my ideas for it, however since I do not know much and I am not a real, dedicated fan, take it with a pinch of salt.

I have 2 main models. I will list their basic premises to show their main difference. They are not 2 alternative continuities in the same multiverse, the animators would have to CHOOSE ONE AND STICK TO IT until the very end. The 2 models however have some common grounds and themes I will list and discuss at the end.

First model

The 3 Chousin are extra dimensional, eternal goddesses from a realm above the 4 dimensional spacetime continuum, they did not necessarily create the Universe but they existed before it did. Washu voluntarily incarnates into a 3 dimensional mortal avatar, becomes a scientist and 15,000 years later creates Ryoko by artificially mixing her genes with a embryo from a humanoid alien race. This race is briefly shown to explain what they are. She directly infuses Ryoko's body with some of her power, and does not put it into any gem.

Ryoko becomes a space pirate and destroys countless civilizations to sell their planets to space speculators by her own, without being brain washed. 4,300 years later, Kagato merely convinces her to attack Jurai Empire. However the Jurai prince is able to repel her, he then pursues her until they end up on Earth, beats her and traps her for the next 700 years, meanwhile he stays on Earth and gets a family.

700 years later Tenchi, his 3/4 human grandson, frees Ryoko and the Juraian princess Ayeka comes to Earth to retrive her promised husband.

Second model

The 3 Chousin do not exist, Washu is a powerful mortal scientist from a humanoid race, has ascended to immortality and is 20,000 years old, she still created Ryoko 5,000 years before present by mixing her genes with some other humanoid race, but there was no divine power involved.

Ryoko becomes a space pirate, kills by her own countless people and civilizations and ends up being a sworn enemy of the Juraian Empire.

Tenchi and his family are fully human. Ryoko while running away from the Galactic Police crashes on Earth, and later Juraian princess Ayeka goes to Earth to try to kill Ryoko.

Common grounds of the 2 models

Only Ryoko gets to live with Tenchi and his family.

Only Ryoko and Ayeka fall in love with Tenchi and get to live on Earth. Ayeka uses her powers/technology to build a castle on top of a hill in Tenchi's city, and very often fights Ryoko and tries to make Tenchi fall in love with herself and forget Ryoko.

Washu and other characters often visit Tenchi and Ryoko on Earth, but are most of the time in space, and do not fall in love with Tenchi too.

The cosmology is more simple, there is the 4th dimensional space continuum were every mortal lives, and in Model 1 there is a dimension outside and above it where the 3 Chousin are. The Light Hawk Wings in Model 1 are either removed and replaced with a more generic "divine power" which is merely a power source stemming from the Chousin Ryoko and the Juraians can have access to, or at least are simplified; in Model 2 they do not exist, and no Universal level power or character is present at all.

Main themes of both Models

The main theme of this reboot would be, whatever of the 2 models is chosen, Ryoko's redemption and character arc. At first she is a space pirate who in her right mind killed billions of people, and she did it not to get rich, but to get glory, to become a legendary warrior feared in the whole Universe, and maybe to have a life full of adventures and challenges. After she ends up stuck on Earth she learns little by little the value of a simple life and the value of life itself.

Later in the series she would also help saving Earth from a Universal (Model 1) or Planetary (Model 2) level threat.

Falling in love with Tenchi is not actually really a necessary part of this, however it would show how much she changed, from trying, even if by using an infinitely small part of her power, to kill him, and then trying to seduce him, to being ready to sacrifice her life in order to protect him.

In this reboot Ayeka would be more of a villain, even though she would settle her issues with Ryoko for a while and fight on Tenchi's side against powerful evil threats. She would costantly try to get Tenchi to love her without first trying to understand him, but would, even more, try to convince Ryoko she will forever be a destroyer of worlds because she was created as a weapon and she can not change.

There should be in this series at least some battles, in space (Model 1) or on Earth (Model 2), against threathening villains. In the last story arc Ryoko would die to save Tenchi or planet Earth but later she would get resurrected. Tenchi may later marry her, but whatever they marry or not, he would NOT marry also other women.

These are my ideas for a hard reboot, feel free to criticize.

P.S. I would add Ryoko should actually have a tail, and it should be the same color of her hair.

In the TM OVA Series, there is a VERY skewed male-to-female gender ratio among the Juraians in favor of the female side, thus why polygynous marriages are the norm for them.

Here's proof.

The Masaki Family Women's Council. Comprised only of Masaki women who were born on earth. Currently at 24 Members as of the events in OVA 4. Rea, here, is an exception because she knows the family's true origins and is about to marry Noboyuki Masaki. Ayeka, Sasami, and Minaho are there as honored guests.

The Male side of the same council. A mere seven members, including Tenchi.

You cannot have a disparity that big without genetics playing a major role.

There actually is a way for this to happen. The Y-chromosome of a male's DNA carries the gene that determines the gender of a child. Women carry this gene as well, but they're only carriers.

These gene comes in three alleles:

ff - More children will be female than male - typically in a ratio of 1:3 to 1:6.

mf - An equal number of male and female children will be born.

mm - More children will be male than female - typically in a ratio of 1:3 to 1:6.

My current head-cannon is that this gene is carefully managed in order to maintain population control among a people who live incredibly long lives.

By limiting the number of fertile males available, it is possible to do so without imposing any particular restrictions on anyone. After all, not everyone winds up with as many wives as Tenchi or Seina. Typically, we see family's more like Emperor Azusa's, who is married only to Misaki and Funaho. (Although it's possible that there could have been a third, but she tragically died, and her body is entombed within Azusa's Tree.) And Seto's husband, Utsutsume, is married to her and her alone!

Although, there is the possibility that the women of Jyurai have an active conspiracy going on to maintain something that looks like a patriarchy on the surface, but the women are the true holders of power.

This has been alluded to multiple times in the OVAs where it's implied that the women have a strong tendency to run roughshod over their men. And since in the traditional model of patriarchy, the man must take full responsibility for the actions of his wife.... Yyyyyyep. While the head may make the decisions, it's the neck that points the head!

Not that I'm offended by the idea, mind... but it's fucking hilarious when you really think about it.

Why does Azusa Jurai get treated poorly in fanfics

I have noticed Azusa masaki jurai emperor get treated either as villain or push over . I get that he was introduce in somewhat hostile manner but serious many different fanfic portray him as evil which pretty harsh.

Question from a random reddit user : are those female ancient Saiyans ?

Hi, I am a random guest here, I am not a Tenchi Muyo fan, however I am a Dragonball fan and I randomly noticed something : I think Ryoko and Washu are female ancient Saiyans.

I mean, I found out Washu is 20,000 and her daughter Ryoko is 5,000, while Saiyans are meant to only live up to 90 or 100 years old even though they do not age until 80, however Washu may originally have been an ancient Saiyan from 20,000 years ago who was artificially altered by an even older and more powerful entity, or maybe she permanently ascended to SSJG (has red hair), gained a position in the hierarchy of the gods and stopped to age as a result, but never turned SSJB.

Then Ryoko would likely have been created by Washu by artificial means since she likely did not meet a male Saiyan, however she would still have used her own genes to make her a Saiyan too, and made her also very long lived. Then Ryoko never even turned SSJ 1, even though, at 5,000 years old and still having a young body, if she always trained she could have mastered Complete Ultra Instinct and could have been stronger than Beerus in Base form very easily. Being a Saiyan, she still became a space pirate though.

Is it so ? Are those ancient Saiyan women who could train, get new forms and, having no age limit, eventually even surpass all divine beings, or are they aliens from a random race who casually look and partly behave like Saiyans, and are also powerful, but could never grow without limits the way Saiyans can do ?

Between GXP and GXP Paradise Starting?

Im having a hard time piecing it all together, but after watching GXP and then trying to follow the canonical story lots of references to things that seem to happen after the final episode of GXP, things like an adventures guild, magic organ, additional wives, some of whom can turn into cabbits (the cute little rabbit thing fuku is i guess), and i get the feeling im missing something, either a manga or another show. if anyone know the names of said manga/show please let me know, i relly dont like skipping ahead in things.

Confusing ending

I watched this show on the scifi channel and toonanime. After many years they came out with movies that I guess wrapped it up. I wS way confused. Maybe I misunderstood. Does he really sex all of them up. And the space police, the cat/rabbit and Tsunami were actual love intrests? And Washu. Was there a lead up to that? I thought it was down to the Pirate and space princess, with family members to throw us off? Anyone can break this down.

I hope I am wrong... did the write just forget what his story was and did a "he gets with everyone?"
