Command one of three distinct factions in a desperate struggle for power and resources in Tempest Rising - a classic RTS set on Earth after a nuclear war. Play the preview now on Steam!

About

Classic RTS action meets modern production and performance in Tempest Rising. Inspired by RTS greats of the 90s and 2000s, Tempest Rising is a classic, base-building real time strategy game set in a modern day alternative history war scenario. It features 3 unique factions, each with its own approach to combat and economy and offering a variety of strategies for players of all stripes, maps with neutral structures to contest and neutral populations to contend with, deep and rewarding gameplay that keeps a focus on strategy while rewarding skill, and built-in customization options that allow players to approach the game their way in both single player and multiplayer game modes.

Take on the role of Commander in the highly mobile and advanced peacekeeping corps of the Global Defense Forces or the hard-hitting and desperate Tempest Dynasty in 2 15-mission campaigns that allow the player to customize their army for each mission, as both armies seek to understand and control the mysterious but beneficial Tempest vines that grow unchecked across the war-torn planet Earth. Other dangers wait in the shadows, as the origin of the Tempest is revealed...

Tempest Rising is being developed internally by Slipgate Ironworks and 3D Realms in collaboration with 2B Games, and THQ Nordic as Publishing Partner. It is scheduled to release in 2023!

Will there be 100% completion rewards for the Campaign?

Say, if you complete all mission objectives (including bonus/secondary objectives) and quests in the two campaigns of Tempest Rising, will there be a reward for doing so? Something that you can use as a bragging rights reward to prove to your friends that you completed everything.

Tempest Rising has no naval units like aircraft carriers or destroyers. Why? At least make it like Tiberium Dawn, where the naval units are present, but you can't control your comment.

Should we be able to see where enemy support powers hit?

In the original Command and Conquer (where Tempest Rising takes inspiration from) games, you don't get to see where support powers hit (with the exception of the Orca Strike in Tiberium Wars), but having the ability to see where enemy support powers hit (ie, the red dot of a Ghost's nuclear strike in StarCraft or Company of Heroes' flares) would be very useful for messing with human opponents as strategy.

Forcing columns of enemy units away from an advantageous position or making an opponent waste time by selling away and rebuilding a key structure could be good gameplay tactics if players can see where enemy support powers hit.

Another idea is to maybe make it an early warning upgrade for the radar stations so even if the player is able to have advance warning of where support powers are able to hit, the support powers would still have use in forcing players to either move their units away or sell their structures.

Honestly. I really wish for Starcraft II style skin packs for Tempest Rising......

Honestly, I really want to see cosmetics like skin packs and UI skins. Sure, people say skins break the atmosphere of games (as much as we like to complain about the Tempest Sphere itself), but skins allow for some goof and whimsy into games as well. I personally want Idiocracy homage skins for Ignitors and Pillagers because Brawndo has electrolytes which is what plants crave and Tempest is a plant or a bowling bowl themed skin for the Tempest Sphere itself.

As long as microtransactions are'nt based on RNG gambling and don't affect gameplay at all, I think skin packs are a good idea for Tempest Rising to earn extra money from the game itself.

Can someone answer me this question is why the NPC on the right is wearing a mask. Is it a part of the military uniform in the Dynasty or just to hide the bad lip sync the NPC on left I understand why she is a scientist; she needs it. your comment.

Ragdoll physics for infantry?

Okay, given that the common protocol when it comes to infantry being hit with artillery and explosives is to jump two hundred feet in the air and scatter oneself over a wide area, to quote Blackadder. Given that well, we had to work with a potential Teen rating , maybe ragdoll physics for infantry could be implemented as a death animation compromise when infantry are killed by artillery, explosives like mines or the Condor's bombs and the Tempest Sphere's Tempest Engine ability.

Or was it the same as the previous demo? Excited either way!

On storytelling in strategy games

When I first started playing Command&Conquer, I was 6 years old. I watch a friend of mine playing it and I had a broad understanding of WW2 to see what I was doing was something of real relevance. I could understand that the fact that I was moving a tank had something to do with me playing with cars when I was 4.

I was intrigued and hooked.

But what hooked me to the game most has been the storytelling. I loved how the world that was built was taking me seriously, complimenting me and giving me praise for my achievements. The background story was ever only there to create a context for the achievements of the player.

The story of C&C1 always felt a bit like a kid was hacking into the military control of GDI or NOD. Nobody really noticed and since the kid was already there, people just rolled with it. Heck, with the bad graphics from the 90s, you might even imagine that what was happening was really happening and that it was just a bad transfer of signals to your screen. It was just a brilliant work of art.

As long as the player was successful, you would get more responsibility, more power and insight into the war. From a nobody to a general.

Working yourself through a military career has always been the motivating factor for the story of C&C, fulfilling a sense of duty, it was what kept it all together, what kept the loosely linked missions together. The story of the war, yes, but more the story of you. Of your success as a military leader. The early games captured this quite well, when having a new unit available felt like a real achievement. A new tank, first airplanes, the first orca. You cared about your units, about their abilities and the technology. That kind of storytelling was something that Age of Empires or War-/Starcraft never understood; and is only paralleled by Call of Duty.

The feeling like what you did really mattered. The slow grind towards victory in a campaign. Real achievement. That was what drew me in as a kid. It’s rarely done these days. I hope we will see something like that from the story.

Unit Cap

I just recently saw a Video from Gamestar of gameplayfootage from the Gamescom, there I saw a unit cap and tried to get an idea how much it will affect the overall army size. In my opinion, it is really tight, so tight, that it consider it a dealbreaker for me if it goes live like that.

A game inspired so heavily by C&C TW should not have this included. An option to deactivate it would be very welcomed, but I'd rather see it gone for good if I think outside of skirmish matches.

30ish (mostly low tier) Units and it's half the cap.

Release date?

Anyone knows of a release date? I've been waiting patiently for this one, I loved the second Beta, a lot more than the 1st one I must say, but now even knowing when the game releases is kind of a bummer. I also tried reading in Steam's discussions, to no avail.

Anyone?

Vehicles do not shoot on the move and as a result combat looks and feels boring. Bring back fire on the move.

One of my favorite parts of the CnC games is watching Aircraft commence bombing runs, Tanks advancing assaults, and light vehicles firing off their guns as they run around the battlefield. But in the footage I watched and demo that I played every one stops to fire their weapons. It just makes every thing feel so much less dynamic and energetic like the CnC games where. It also does not help that every unit moves and turns so slowly with wonkey pathfinding. I want to like this game, but it just feels off. Bring back fire on the move, CnC fans (Your intended audience) would appreciate it

Play session by German magazine Gamestar at 4:30 pm CET on twitch today

Hi,

I just wanted to let those know who are interested. Gamestar will stream it as part of their broadcast schedule from Gamescom. Most likely it will be German commentary unless they have an English speaking developer guest for the session. The slot is planned for an hour and they play a multiplayer match (just by two journalists, don't expect pros 😋).

https://m.twitch.tv/gamestar

Here is the schedule where they mention the time slot: https://www.gamestar.de/fyng/
