Does tello work on mifi devices?

I got this one and I can’t get the darn thing to get internet. I get “no internet” whenever I connect to it. If not if there a mifi device that works?

Flip phone with NO BROWSER capabilities

My daughter has made poor choices and somehow bypassed my restrictions using Google family link and kidslox on her smart phone so I need to change back to a flip phone. Problem is all the ones I can find have web browsers. I need something that's just basic. Texting and talking capabilities and nothing else.

Any ideas?

Using Tello for 2FA in Europe

Hi All! Moving to Portugal in a few months and I want to keep my US number + get a Portugal number. My phone has dual sim, so I'm planning to port my US number to Tello.

Has anyone used Tello for 2FA (for banks, credit cards, etc) while living outside the US? I plan to be on a pretty minimal plan because I mostly just need texts for 2FA, I'll usually just call friends through whatsapp or Google Meet.

New subscriber- need to activate from UK

Hi ,

I need to travel to UK for an extended period of time and looking to get a local SIM while am there. Can I port from my current provider to Tello and keep the US number active while am there using an eSIM? Is it necessary for me to be in US for me to buy into a Tello plan or can I do the porting from UK as well (once am done with the current contract end of the month). ?
I would use Wifi calling with an active plan- if that works to avoid per minute charges. I am assuming the "pay as you go" charge applies only if we make calls outside Wifi calling, right?

Confused..?

So, I want to say at the beginning somewhat of this month I got on a Tello account I did a 5 gb unlimited for the $14. I then switched it to 10gb 2 days later as I felt it would be best for $19. Should I be expecting a refund for my first 5gb one? Think about it, I didn’t make it through a full week barely even 48 hours before I switched my plan and now this time I’m paying both the $14 and $19 for something I didn’t even use I only used the 19.

PIN reset sent to inaccessible phone...

A foreign friend visited us in 2024 and I suggested to her to get a Tello line because he has business here in the States and need a US phone number. Well, she's back in her country, bought a new phone, reset the old one and can't issue a new eSim thru the Tello website. The PIN doesn't work and the reset PIN option sends a temp PIN to... her phone, which is not accessible of course. I called them, no help. She called them, they said the call must be placed from a US phone, my number that's on file. No PIN reset to my number, which is listed there and accessible or e-mail... Crazy... any hint? Tks.

“This number is registered to Apple ID but is not associated with this phone.

....you can keep using the number for iMessage and FaceTime until it expires".

It gives option to remove that number but I don't want to as this is my number.

MMS with secondary Tello eSIM

I use an iPhone that handles 2 esims at the same time: one main esim plan with 5G with another operator + one Tello esim. Data is only used from my first esim: I subscribed to a 100min/Unlimited texts/No data plan but I cannot receive MMS or group chat messages on my Tello number.

I read on troubleshooting threads that WiFi Calling should be disabled and reviewed my Cellular details and all fine. What can I do to make it work? I also read that I should add some Data with Tello (I can do that) but I would like to use only my data with other 5G plan. I just want the minimum for MMS to work. Can you help?

Trouble activating abroad

Hey, I have bought and activated an eSim on a Pixel 7, seems to have installed fine. I am currently living in the UAE (Abu Dhabi) and want to use the esim to send and receive SMS. I enabled wifi-calling, but it doesnt seem to be allowing me to either send or receive SMS. I've turned off RCS in the Google Messages app, also, and am connected to wifi. In the My Tello app it does say that it is connected, but the service icon in the top right has an exclamation mark next to it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tello international roaming - coverage in South America ?

I am planning to travel to South America and have set up a Tello eSIM with PAYG credit for international roaming. Has anyone used Tello's international roaming in Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, or Colombia? How was the network coverage in these areas?

If I port a number from TextNow to Tello... ?

My TextNow number is apparently considered a landline number. If I port it from TextNow to Tello, will it still be considered a landline number? Or will it be a regular wireless number?

(I'm having some issues with the TextNow number since it's not a true wireless number.)

Voicemail password sent in the clear via SMS

As in the title. I didn't want to set up a password--I was getting my voicemails on my iPhone anyway--but I did it to get rid of the nag box. Tello confirmed it by text, and they included the new PIN, sent in the clear, in an SMS message.

That seems insecure to me, but what do I know? Can anyone advise, who knows better?

Activating Tello WHILE in Canada - Moving from the US

I'm moving to Canada from the US tomorrow. Being Friday now, there are no more business days in between now and the flight there. I had it on my list to port my US # to Tello before the move, but got sidetracked with bigger priorities. I've heard it can take a few business days to activate. For now, I've called my US carrier to add on a cheap international plan which is thankfully only an additional $10 / month, but I'm already paying $50 / month, and will be adding a Canadian carrier / phone number next week too.

TLDR: Didn't have time to port my US # to Tello before my move to Canada tomorrow (Saturday). Planning on getting a Canadian carrier and # (either physical SIM or eSIM) next week as I need it for my new job. Can I activate my Tello account while in Canada issue-free? Or do I need to wait until I come back to the States for a visit in a few months to activate Tello then? Looks like I can keep my US carrier and have a Canadian carrier at the same time, in the mean time (but expensive).

I cannot take a risk and try porting my number through Tello over the weekend, as I have a huge work week next week.

How do I activate Wi-Fi calling? (LG Exalt phones ported from Verizon)

I recently ported over two lines from Verizon.

Both phones are LG Exalt (https://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-VN220-verizon-exalt). They previously had Wi-Fi calling when I was with Verizon.

After porting over both lines, I verified and set up Voicemail. I also added the e911 address on their respective MyTello account.

When I tried to set up Wi-Fi calling on the LG Exalt using the Tello SIM, it shows "This may take a few moments..." (for about 10 minutes) and then "Unable to activate Wi-Fi calling at this time. Please try again later."

What am I supposed to do to get Wi-Fi calling set up?

Tello newbie here. Does Wi-Fi calling work with a data only plan?

Can anyone confirm if Wi-Fi calling is available with a data only (plus free texts) plan, or are actual phone minutes necessary as part of the plan in order for Wi-Fi calling to be available?

Anyone else with issues using iMessage after switching to Tello?

Hello, I’m kinda stuck on what to do at this point. I successfully ported my number from T-Mobile to Tello, activated and everything. I reset my network settings and it’s still not working. No one can FaceTime or message me. The plan I have with Tello is unlimited texts and 100 mins.

Did anyone else encounter issues with iMessage? If so how did you handle it?

Tello Roaming has a lot of problems

For anyone considering using Tello for roaming, I wanted to give my experience in case it helps you make a better decision than I did. I use an iPhone 13 which generally works with roaming on other carriers I have tried, although I admit that roaming in general can be a bit buggy at times.

South Africa - Voice, SMS, and Data all worked with a little massaging (no need to contact support)

Malawi - Voice, SMS work, data doesn't. After 2 weeks of back and forth with tech support they tell me that Tello roaming works in Malawi (I doubt), but it just doesn't work for me.

Kenya - SMS Works, I'm guessing Voice works but I didn't test it, data doesn't work. Website says that it should work in Kenya. Wasn't in the country long enough for another 2 week back and forth with tech support, but I tried all of the usual things that tech support asks you to do when debugging the issue.

Ethiopia - According to the website, SMS, voice, and data are all supported ($3/MB for data according to the website). When I arrive none of them work. When I contact customer support, they tell me that data doesn't work in Ethiopia. I asked them to update the website, but I doubt they will. We're still going back and forth on the SMS and voice, but with the track record so far, I'm not optimistic.

Hope this saves someone else the time of testing out Tello roaming, at least in Africa.

I have an iPhone 16 and I’m trying to use a Tello esim as a second esim, and it’s telling me my phone is not compatible. My phone has the latest update. Any ideas??

Where can I see the countries and coverage for roaming.

Clicking on the link in the FAQ page just takes me to the International Roaming page that talks about how to activate roaming and adding to the pay as you go system. There is a link on that page to check roaming coverage but it just brings me right back to the same page.

After transferring sim to new iPhone, visual voicemail only works with wifi turned off.

I just switched to an iPhone 13, and the visual voicemail only works with data on and wifi off. The thing is, it worked fine over wifi only with my previous iphone SE 2nd, with same plan and phone number. Is this a common issue, and is there any way to get around it? I want to receive notification when I have a voice mail even with data turned off.

Stolen phone. Can I get my esim number to my new phone?

If tello makes you delete the esim off the first device before moving it to a new device, not sure how i'd do that since I no longer have that phone.

New to Tello

I'm thinking about switching to Tello and would love some help with these questions:

  1. I don't use much data but occasionally go over 5 Gb/month. If I get the 5 Gb plan and go over, would I get charged for the extra data or just slow down?

  2. Thinking about getting a SIM based Google watch. Would I need a second plan? Or would it piggy back on my phone plan?

Support for internet dropped for some phones?

I've used tello for 1-2 years on my for Nokia 4.2 without major issues. But since about a month ago I cannot connect to the internet, like zero upload and download speed, a site wont even open, keeps buffering etc. Anyone else have same issue and was able to resolve it? I've contacted support but even after all their troubleshooting tips, still does not work

Got charged "Taxes and Surcharges" on my data only plan

Just renewed my data only plan today and, to my surprise, was charged "Taxes and Surcharges". This is new to me. It was always plan amount only and no taxes. In order summary page, it states "Taxes and Surcharges - $xx.xx, no indication of what the charge is.

Anyone knows what this is? Taxes? Surcharges and what?
