My girlfriend (also red tegu owner) and I were discussing age limits for these guys, and I know the general concensus is between 15-20 years, but I wanted to know out of all of the gu' owners in here who had the oldest tegu?
Mag just turned 4, and my gf's red is 11 now.
As a snake keeper, I am familiar with how to use permethrin based mite products to treat snake mites.
Remove the reptiles and water bowls Spray enclosure and substrate Wait several hours until fully dry Return snakes to enclosure
I understand that certain species are particularly sensitive to these products, such as hognose snakes, which often die despite following these instructions.
I want to know if red tegus are one of these particularly sensitive species.
Thank you.
Looking sharp in his new outfit.
My bro and SIL just added a black and white Tegu to their menagerie. I would love to get a little dragon wings costume for him (their daughter is obsessed with dragons) for Christmas but I'm struggling finding anything specific to Tegus on Etsy and I worry about the sizing being wrong. Does anyone have links or suggestions for where I can find dragon wings for him?
Thanks in advance!!
Hello everyone! I have a tegu who was born in August, when should I expect for them to start brumation? And what are the signs? also when it comes to gender how can I tell, I’m sensing boy from him lol
My tegu is still fairly young and I don’t want to mess up. He hisses at me all the time, and arches his back to look bigger but once I take him out of the the tank he has no problem with handling, I feel like forcing him out of the tank even tho he is clearly scared of me seems wrong. Any tips?
Hello. I am going to be getting a tegu in the next few months. I have a whole room dedicated to my reptiles. (It's very empty right now one sheft with leopard geckos and 2 snakes and a tortoise encloser for my red foots.) I'm wondering about standard enclosure dimensions people went with. As well as where are you guys sourcing the tegus. My local pet shop sometimes have them. All the ones on morph market are either blue or red. Should I just get a one of those. I know reds need more humidity and fruit. Which isn't really a bother for me. My main goal is to have as large as possible tegu. And work with it to have it tame and good with human interaction.
Just looking for some tips etc just so I can know when I'll be able to start desensitizing him to some things like quiet music, etc. Kubo LOOves coming out of his cage, even if I'm there, but he doesn't really like my hands yet. He likes coming out and he eats outside of his cage, but he still is really cautious when I just sit by his cage or try to reach in and pet him. Some days he's more open to the idea, but most of the time he just goes under his rock when I try to pet him while he's basking.
Bare with me this will take a second to explain what's going on with my baby.
So since I got my baby she's had shed issues that just can't seem to find a problem to. Using baths, running her toes under the spigot, repti shed helpers, stuff in her diet, oils. NOTHING has helped because she has layers upon layers she's been to the vet about 6 times now and they can't give me solid answers. Now she's gone into brumation, however; I need to pull her out almost every other day for baths and what else not. Should I lower the temps and not feed her? Thank you
He’s gone from attacking me to having a nap every time I open his enclosure for him to come out for some bonding time. I guess it’s a good thing he’s no longer aggressive I just wish he had some interest in coming out to play.
Going through one of her sheds and saw that she had tore off a lot of it, now that I look at it maybe it’s more of a cape 😄
