Boom I got your girlfriend.

Probably a dumb question but it peaked my interest. When going through 19k OSUT as an E-5 reclass are you given more freedom than the junior enlisted or are you treated the same? (example: having your car or phone?)
Thank you all for the input in helping me decide my duty stations a few weeks ago. I submitted for Bliss and Germany and got Germany. I’m stoked to get out there but I’m aware I will not be doing normal tanker things and will be in a mocked up 113, my main question though is will I ever be doing anything on a real Abrams such as gunnery? I can’t find any information whatsoever and my retention can’t get me any information. I can cope with being a fake tank crewman, although not preferable after completing tank school where I’d like to use what I just learned but atleast I’ll be in Germany and think that being opfor is the coolest thing you can do in the peacetime army because all you do is play war and I’ve loved NTC every time I’ve gone so far lmao.
Furthermore, I want to be better set up for tank school as a prior service NCO surrounded by new trainees so as to not appear incompetent to them so I’d like to study before arriving. What materials are available that I can study beforehand and have a better understanding of tank warfare, operations, and school? The only thing I have currently is experience as a Stryker crewman conducting our version of gunnery, I know it’s a little different maybe completely different from tank gunnery but I’ve gotten very good at vehicle ID, radio confidence, and our gunner call-outs.
Sorry for the essay but I’m getting extremely frustrated trying to set myself up for success and at the fact I’m unsure about what the future holds. Thanks all in advance.
Is a paladin a tank. I told him no (obvi civilian with 0 time in service) he claims it to be a tank. I told him ask any tanker in the world and they’ll tell you no also and that websters dictionary definition of a tank doesn’t mean shit. Am I wrong.
What I have now is:
- sleeping bag (not army issue)
- Sleeping matte (not army issue)
- Air pillow
- woobie with zipper
- small mess kit with burner
- dry bags
- solar charger
what do you think I should add?
Current ROTC cadet preparing to make a final decision on what branch of the Army I’d like to commission into. Armor is slowly becoming my favorite, though Aviation and Infantry are right there with it. For those with experience as an officer, tank commander, etc. Why choose Armor over the other combat arms branches?
Reclassed from infantry to tanker and I’m looking to get some more information on what are the best duty stations to choose. Today is my time to do so. Ive got little to no interaction with tankers so im resorting to this. From what ive been told 1AD in Bliss is the best tank unit when it comes to funding. I’d like to go to Germany but competition shooting is my number one hobby and every time I’ve deployed it’s always the thing I miss the most and that’s the only thing conflicting with an overseas duty station. I want a unit that deploys somewhere other than Korea because I’ve been there too much but have also been told when I was there that tanks no longer get sent there so I guess that’s not a problem. Thanks for your help in advance.
Im a 13b and was wondering because i work on the m119 and wonder how different it is from loading an abrams
I’m an 11b in Alaska and it’s ass, how is being a tanker and am I gonna be walking everywhere like this airborne shit.
DISCLAIMER: This isn't exactly about Ukraine, or donations for Ukraine, it was born of that, but really doesn't have much to do with this question anymore.
Depleted-Uranium (DU) armor was introduced to the Abrams with the M1A1HA in the late 1980s, and throughout the 1990s the Marines upgraded to the "common" M1A1, which added DU armor. By the late 90s the original 105mm M1/M1IP Abrams were retired. It seems the majority of the hulls from the pre-DU days were later converted to other upgrades (M1A2). Those that weren't upgraded were taken out of service or deep storage in some other way Ex. put on display. This is, to my understanding, the history. Other than other specifically for export models, these are the only Abrams I know of in the US. This is my understanding.
That would mean that to my knowledge, the only Abrams tanks in US storage or service have DU armor. This would mean that all of the M1s, M1IPs, and M1A1s (Pre-HA) are gone.
So are they? Are any of those aforementioned hulls in storage anywhere (Even if not in anything close to working order).
Mainly for guys on the M1A1 and the M1A2 but I’d greatly appreciate how you guys did it in detail.
The skirt c clippy thing that you have to loosen and lift the #1 skirt up to be able to lift the C clippy thing. What’s the technical name for it…and if you have the NSN lmk lmao. All my resources I can’t find it anywhere.
So I know usually tank commanders for a non-commissioned officers are usually E-6 to E-7 however, how common is it to see an E-5 tank commander because where I’m stationed at it’s not that uncommon however, I don’t know how common that is at other armor units.
Could someone recommend what type of paints/sealer to use, I still go out to the field (desert environment) but I at least want it to last a bit
I’m a CPL currently, and my reenlistment window opens in OCT. I want to reclass to 19k. I’m trying to find out what that OSUT will be like, considering everything I’m also active duty.
Where I live we usually get shortened m16s while special armor forces would get m4s with a shortened barrel.
What would you get in your respective army?
im a senior in highschool and i plan to talk to a recruiter about joining the army after i graduate and when i was looking at jobs in the army the one that peaked my interest the most is M1 armor crewman would any veterans or current service members give me their honest opinions and if i should keep it as my plan or think about other jobs
I'm not one of those 11Bs that got slapped on a tank crew and I've only been in an ABCT when I was in the NG. Throughout my time in the Army (NG to AD) I've been in 5 different types of units. NG ABCT rifle CO, IBCT C-troop, SBCT Weapons troop, SBCT rifle CO, and now an IBCT rifle CO after having been through two transitions and COVID with not much going on.
Starting to ramble which would lead to whole different conversation. But I guess the bottom line of that part is I'm actually looking forward to some more consistency and 19K admittedly wasn't my primary option but the more I look into the Armor branch the more I'm looking forward to the future despite the potential OPTEMPO.
Any big culture shocks a current 11B should expect or big things to study on as an ALC complete E5 thats gonna be behind the power curve?
I've spent a ton of time around Armor Os, 19Ds and actually sponsored in a couple 19Ks at my old unit before they got whisked off to an ABCT instead of being on an MGS.
TLDR: I'm excited as fuck and nervous as fuck for a new start and want to start off on the right foot instead of feeling like I'm somehow falling up.
Designing a small IFV for a video game, and I'm looking at quality of life stuff:
Like how far back can the seats fold and shit, cuz I know people live in these things in real life; and just as well the player will spend pretty much all their time playing the game inside of it (unless they are squishy ballast)
So I wanted to know about the little details game devs, and actual real life tank designers often miss from some people who know the real life part of tanks.
Like how leaky are they? Does heat and oil from the engine compartment bleed into the crew compartment easily? Stuff I can implement into my design to make it more authentic, and if possible an actually good design.
I'm looking into joining up and have been looking through some things about the army and 19K in general and I was wanting to know some things such as.
So currently I’m an 0313 LAV crewman with the marine corps I thought it would fill my want to be a tanker since the marines got rid of tanks but it really hasn’t and I’ve been thinking about moving from the marines to the army and becoming a tanker I just want to reach out to people who’ve been or are tankers and weigh my pros and cons to switching branches any answer is appreciated I’ve still got about 2 years and a deployment before I can go making a decision but I just like to keep my mind open. Thanks everybody
hello. i picked 19K and will be shipping in a few months. my family has been giving me crap over the decision. i know the mos isn't really transferable to civilian side, but i wanted do something unique to the army and because tanks are cool.
i am wondering how do i succeed as a tanker? how do i not waste my time? what schools and stuff are there?
I'm currently a 12M looking into a reclass once my contract is over and 19K has been on my mind for quite a while if anyone here can provide the good, bad and ugly side of this job to help me out I'd greatly appreciate it.
So im a 11b 4years of service in august What are somethings that i should know/expect when i switch over to 19k? Leardership is shitting on me and telling me how shitty its going to be i signed a 6 year for 41 k was that the right move?
hey hey, I've been doing research into 91A and 19K and I'm curious what kind of careers would be available to me after service that use the experience from being a 91A or 19K. Thanks for any info!
Anybody apart of 1-9 I’ve got a couple questions before I get there thanks
Calling all AD Soldiers to talk with your seniors about starting a chapter of the Order of the Little Red Tank. In any regiment - doesn’t have to be 66th AR…
Any insight on the Vehicles that 19K’s Operate? Is it a Great MOS? I chose Fort Carson as my station of choice
