I like to hunt platinum trophies on PlayStation, and I decided to go for Tales of Symphonia’s platinum on the PS4 version. I managed it after around 175 hours or so across 5 playthroughs. Even with all of the constant playthroughs, I really enjoyed revisiting the game after not playing through it in years.
want to play more of it im really loving it so much and the currently stores i've got on my ps3 only got Xillia 1 & 2 (already played), Zestiria (started today) and Symphonia.
Has it ever been done in an installment? Has it ever been talked about? How would you feel about a PVP mode utilising the combat system in a mainline Tales game?
That's it. That's the post.
I made my own version since I'm not a masochist like Alphen. My friends barely taste anything despite over 17 spices used so I made theirs extra hot.
Next month the Tales of Graces f Remaster will come out, which will come in either a Standard of Deluxe edition. Personally I don't really care for the Deluxe edition, but it mentions a "Battle BGM Pack", which features battle music from other Tales games that you can then use in Graces f, which I would like a lot.
My question is, does anyone know if you can also get the additional Battle BGM via DLC for the Standard edition or anything? Or is the Deluxe edition the only way to get it? Because I would really hate to miss out on that.
Got any weekend plans? Looking forward to anything in particular this week? Have a rant to get off your chest? Use this thread to talk about whatever you want!
I had an amazing idea for a crossover style game. Imagine a Pokemon mystery dungeon game where you are a Pokemon and are in a rescue team but the combat is that of the Tales series. You artes would be your Pokemon moves and you can choose to evolve later to help make battles easier. You also have a party of 8-10 Pokemon, you get a member as you progress the story and it's a different one from each generation. I want to see a game like that.
So I've beaten Tales of Berseria back when it first came out early 2017. Had a lot of fun with it and enjoyed it for the most part, but the one thing I absolutely hated about the game was how higher difficulty reduced healing artes' effects by a substantial amount, up to 80% at the highest difficulty.
I'm a weirdo who likes playing healers in just about ever game I play, even in single player. I played as Raine, Tear, Estelle, and Cheria in their respective games (didn't player healers much in the other games). So in this one I played as Magilou, but I was crushed by how weak Healing Circle and Fairy Circle healed for. The AI wasn't great at staying alive and utilizing their Burst Artes effectively, so it was a chore keeping them alive.
Is there any way to change this, via hex editing or through a mod or something? I'm very novice creating my own mods (only able to with provided mod tools), but any help would be appreciated. Been thinking about playing the game again, but would like to be able to play it how it should be played (imo).
I’ve been playing with the English translation recently and after experiencing it I think it’d be one of the best candidates for a remake. The premise is interesting and so are the mechanics but it’s one of those cases where it just needs more polish on everything to really shine.
For example the Force cube in theory is really interesting but in practice it feels too constricting due to the fact that the stars don’t carry over to the arte but stay only on the slot so your basically forced to keep the same setup. Then you have the RG system where again very interesting on paper but once you play the game outside of specific enemies there’s really no reason to have your RG be low since you won’t even be able to use your fusion artes and the already slow combat feels even slower, trading defense for power just feels better generally. I think adding artes that can only be used with low RG would make lowering it much more appealing especially since there’s so many fusion artes that you just can’t use because your stuck with one per arte.
Another thing that I wasn’t the biggest fan of was how some characters felt detached from their force. Veigue and Eugene felt like they really used their Forces but then you have Tytree who’s majority of artes don’t even involve his force of wood, Mao uses two other elements same with Hilda then there’s Annie who doesn’t use illusions or her rain in combat but uses rituals/fields. I get why they did it but I think with a remake they’d feel a lot more alive if they used more artes that correlate with their Forces in battle . Heck one gripe I have with Veigue is he can summon all these ice spikes and blocks but it’s never used it combat. They obviously also need to allow more than just 4 buttons to be used for artes and I think having the cube evolve and to create new skills to use would be really cool along with adding new arte slots.
Lastly I think Veigue could use better writing tbh. Besides him yelling Claire every time he doesn’t add too much. Everybody else brings some personality whether it’s likable or not while he’s just screaming Claire. Again I get why but it’d be nice to have an MC with more depth and a remake could try and do that.
The game has a lot of cool and original things going on and I think just expanding upon them would make it a fun experience that could hold its own in a modern landscape.
So, I just got to the point where just before we're supposed to leave for Lenegis, Shionne tries to go by herself, then has an emotional breakdown, and reveals more about her thorns.
I will admit. This caught me completely off guard. I 100% expected thr thing with Vohlrahn to be the last bit with her thorns being impprtant. Typical anime stuff. But no. A lot bigger than that it seems.
But more than that. After some more thinking. It adds a lot more to a lot of previous scenes.
So, during the little breakdown, Shionne says something to the effect of "I wish I had never met any of you so I didn't feel this way!"
Referring to suddenly how she wants to live. She doesn't want to leave her friends.
This suddenly makes all the tines where it looked like she was trying not to blush while being alone, and Kisara and rinwell ask about it.
IN A WHOLE NEW LIGHT.
I assumed it was just "Oh look, tsundere character, doesn't wanna admit her feelings"
But no. Its not that at all. Shionnes whole plan, the entire journey, was essentially a suicidal one. Her plan, was to die.
But suddenly, after so many days with Alphen, Law, Rinwell, and the rest, after all the battles and troubles faced together. She can't do it. Part of her, for the first time, is scared. She doesn't want to die suddenly. I had always assumed that the reason she was so nervous around Alphen was typical anime romance stuff.
"Oh look, the tsundere character can't admit her feelings"
And tbf, maybe thats part of it. But I think it recontextualizes....a LOT of it. Its not just she can't admit it. She's SCARED to have these feelings. Because she knows they can't last. She knows what will happen eventually.
I loved this twist. It caught me 100% Off guard. I was obvious shionne was hiding something, but I DID NOT EXPECT it to be of that magnitude.
And I love it.
I don't know whats next in the game. But, I am very excoted to see where this goes. The mystery of the maiden and the soverign, what the whole point of the crown contest it, who the red woman is (honestly, thats a whole nother discussion).
But, I am very curious what ya'll think of this.
I think personally, it makes shiones bittchy, Ice queen behavior in a whole new light. She's trying to drive people away. She doesn't want to get attached to anyone. Or, failing that, why try to be cheery? Why do that, when you know your going to die? When you CAN'T DIE OF YOUR OWN VOLITION.
I'm gonna be honest, other than Tales of Abyss (my fav) I dont remember any story points in any Tales games after I beat them.
For context, I literally have played almost all of Tales game that has been translated into english officially or unofficially over the past almost 20 years yet I barely remembers any plot points in any Tales games barring Abyss which I still fondly remembers.
My personal love with Tales of series is the character interaction its like playing and watching anime. I loved their skits and banter, the gameplay and journey but I have no idea whats going on anymore about story halfway of most tales game.
For example of tales game plot I forgot; I dont know why there was a coup or something then eco terrorist in vesperia, I loses interest in velvet revenge halfway and why sorey is reincarnated as fairy or something. Or what the heck was about llyod expshere thing with his mom soul that somehow more special than the rest. Maybe in Arise I forgot why even Alphen and shionne ancestor had to do that "wedding" ceremony. I played Tales of Hearts R on vita and I literally forgot every plot points other than in early game when Kohaku loses her emotion.
Hopefully you guys fare better than me and able to recall Tales game stories better!
I honestly can't wait to finish this first playthrough. Looks like Lloyd has had enough as well...
Hi in ToB how can I override the costume attachment limit? I have downloaded some Cheat Engine but theres no option to override it and I couldn't find any mods. I know this is old but I'd like to customize my character.
against my better judgement, I preorder a copy of ps5 Graces F remastered from the bamco store as a gift for my sister since it was her favorite Tales(I was planning on just buying the steam version for myself at a later time when it drops)
today I went to go check on the order status, since I remember there was some shenanigans when I bought Symphonia chosen edition from them and it was stuck in limbo for a week before I finally bugged their support chat about it, and I am completely locked out of my account due to their new broken login system
my existing login information no longer works on the site as a I now get a "account linking not available, please try again later" error (later never comes btw its been several hours)
I thought resetting my password would possibly bypass this, but they never actually fucking send you a password reset email. waited over several hours, still nothing.
oh whats that you might ask? "Why dont you contact support?"
good question!
their support feature requires you to login! isn't that fun!
so now I have no fucking idea if this game is coming or not, because I can't fucking check my account.
don't buy from the bandai namco store, its an entire tossup on whether or not you'll actually get what you bought, billion dollar company that can afford the fucking rights to every major anime ip under the sun and makes billions off Tekken and Elden Ring can't even bother to make sure their own site works.
With save carryover feature, even if it just childhood arc is okay. I'm gonna play it everyday and by the time of full release my Sophie will have master titles for all of her available Artes lol.
Too bad that not gonna happen. It it been a while since I looking forward to release of the game like this. Oh well, at least it's less than month away now
Thank you so much to the LBP team for the hard work! Had a hard time appreciating the game before when playing while reading a translation doc. My brain just have a hard time processing it >_<
Looking forward to Lumina Tale's ToD2 patch even more now!
I noticed that whenever I lower the rush gauge that I can’t use my arcane artes (fusion force). Is fusion force exclusive to having high RG or are there artes that can be used with Low RG as well?
Like the title says, i just finished the game, and more specifically the main story in about 80++ hours since i did the side quests as well. Alls left is postgame
Overall I think the game was decent, maybe I need to let my mind rest a bit for me to think about the things i enjoyed better but i'll be writing this to share my thoughts while they're still a bit fresh
Sorry if there's some lack of details due to me forgetting
My initial expectations based on some reviews on it is that it would be good, but not necessarily as high as some other tales game would be in terms of story, and it did kinda end up being that way.
I hope you guys can correct me/share your thoughts or disagree with something you thought wasn't a problem
Characters + some initial thoughts
Alphen : knowing nothing and looking at the design I thought that he'd be a stoic character , a knight to protect the princess who escaped her kingdom ,but Mr break down walls here turns out to be a bit of a basic naive mc that wants to fight for freedom and all that stuff. Not that I have any major problems with it. You do see that he is sensitive about subjects relating the slavery and all that.
I don't find him particularly amazing but he does the job. Although he is a but dumb at times, i'll touch upon it later if I don't get the details wrong.
Shionne : A princess who fled but has gained some experience on surviving in the real world.
Quite enjoyable once you know why she is the way she is
Law : I quite enjoyed seeing his interactions seeing how blunt he is at times . I resonated with his character to how dense and direct he is without thinking twice as unfortunely i'm kinda like that too, especially obvious when the others need to shut him up so he doesn't disturb the situation.
Zephyr didn't feel like much and neither was I particularly sad about his death as it seemed that we was just a plot device on helping Alphen and Law build their foundations as characters.
Law's progression was done slowly as you see him regret about his actions that he did in the past. He's usually lost as asks Alphen about what his father would do. Nothing ground breaking but I enjoyed it.
Rinwell : I thought she was annoying at first, well it does make sense but she really did have comments to say at every single thing shionne or dohalim did/say
Her backstory is fine but I would have preferred for them to show more about her clan or family and build it up better as we approached almeidra. Such as when exactly it happened and she did afterwards before joining the silver swords.
Kisara : she's fine and hot but I don't think I have much to say, serviceable but not particularly interesting or have anything that I would hate all that much. She serves to keep the others in check as a big sister type role.
Dohalim : probably one of my favourite character, it was interesting to see the 1st lord that we could actually talk to. For the backstory and him crashing out felt pretty weak and hand fisted at first, but with the stuff at Lenegis fixed it. I enjoyed seeing him develop over his guilt all the way to Lenegis until he overcomes it and tries to face forward.
Overall I think all of them are fine but very much lacked development as they were introduced. Some were better done than the others. The interactions with them were a bit awkward to start , especially with having dahnans and renans in the same group. It took a while but I think they kinda got together as they went to chase on Vholran.
Actually one of the reasons I was interested was that I thought Dohalim was a cute girl with some interesting designs, which i definitely wasn't looking properly.
Story and others :
I think it started off well enough, I was weirded out to see spaceships as the game started though.
Things happen and we beat Ballsack, a recurring thing I see is that we don't get much backstory at all for any of the Lords that we fight with exception of Dohalim. It doesn't need to be long but it felt a bit wasted on that part. I would've liked to see some places stay a bit longer where they are for us to really get to know the people there and their suffering/problems. But unfortunately a lot of the sidequests usually end up, being there's zeugles on the road so beat them up or give me these items, so that was wasted i think.
Alphen gets the armor after beating Ganabelt but I wished there was a bit more story on the armor itself or some meaning about it.
Things continue until Almeidra as I can't remember anything much there. We get into the cave to find Almeidra but need to fight Temararus, afterwards we get a cutscene of Shionne revealing why she wants Renas Alma. This scene is good and all but it felt awkward having it happen immediately after this fight, i would've wanted a bit of build up for this thing to happen.
As the revolt already happened, we didn't get to see what happened but I don't think we even found out what unique way that she slaved the Dahnans here. I think those details would make Dedyme more likeable or at least enough for us to understand his actions.
Moving on we get to see Shionne interact with the others, trying to be distant but still supportive in some way. We fight Almeidra and she gets merced by Vholran instead after we beat her.
I think Vholran is the closest we get to an interesting villain with the sneak peeks of his power at the earlier parts of the game but ultimately he fell short as well.
I feel the thing i keep regurgitating is that some parts are okay but some parts are lacking. But as a whole i really think that it should've been cooked a bit longer.
After Vholran goes missing the wedge is shot down and now its space time.
I really thought that it would end at Vholran earlier instead.
Everything at this part is a chore to go through, why couldn't all these information be given to us little by little across the whole story? Its just an information dump and skits after skits non stop. I would've been fine with it if it wasn't forced on all at once.
We then go to the final dungeon after meeting the real renans explaining the lore
Turns out all this time its the will of Rena that's the big baddie. I dont particularly care and neither does it feel all that compelling. I get the theme is becoming your own master and that maybe everyone is actually a slave but this does make the other things feel less than what they were.
Vholran suddenly appears and steals Renas Alma but with the power of Dahna we still manage to save Shionne and remove the thorns.
I feel dumbfounded when Alphen forgives Vholran after beating him, why are you so stupid. Couldn't you give this speech after you take Renas alma back. I saw how fast you moved while fighting him earlier, go do that.
We're then sent back home and the game immediately ends.
I'm still a bit stunned by this as I thought it felt a bit too abrupt , and the fact that everything that happened after is only shown through the illustrations in the credits. Is that it?
I heard there was a postgame so I hoped we could at least see that after finishing, but it seems its only to the last save before fighting the final boss.
Gameplay :
I'm not particularly good at making comments about this as i'm quite a stupid and stubborn player
I played about 70% of the game on Hard and 30% on moderate after forgetting to turn it back to hard after Ganabelt
For the early game, hard was quite brutal. Especially Ooze Hive, that boss wasted hours of my life.
I was also stubbornly doing the training grounds too early and thinking i can fight enemies above my level through sheer force. Another waste of time due to my stubborness. Really helped clicked in for me to know my limits in this game.
Other than that, I think the gameplay was quite smooth. There are problems getting used to it at first, i think also as there's too much effects going on screen that I don't know what's happening, especially apparent during the Ganabelt fight. Sometime after i got used to doing combos a bit more and how the inputs/dodges worked.
Alphen is basic and easy to use, has good range and artes to string combos together. I'm probably the kind of player to main the titular character as they're usually made to be easier to use and the ones they'll to teach in fighting games
Can't comment much about anything others either because i suck at playing them
I can barely hit with Dohalim as his artes keep moving him all around
Law was quite fun when using him in training but i think he's too squishy for his own good
Rinwell hits hard but i have no idea how to use her properly
Shionne isnt bad but i prefer melee characters
Kisara isn't bad either but i like offensive characters like Law and Alphen.
The guides on youtube really helped me on the things each character could do, as well as examples for combos.
In short : combat is fine but i'm a bit disappointed in how they handled the story, especially in the latter half. Characters are enjoyable and I quite enjoyed their banter but I would've liked them to be fleshed out even more.
I haven't played the DLC as i'm playing it on ps plus, i'm regretting not buying it on steam from the start as the DLC price is way too high, i could buy the ultimate edition on steam now for barely higher than the dlc is on PS.
I heard that some of the things that happened after the game is in the Dlc, maybe that might help me with how i felt on the game ending so abruptly after fighting the boss.
Currently i'm just feeling a bit perplexed on how it ended, so that might have reflected on my comments in here. I also repeated the same thing multiple times ,so if you've gotten this far to read for whatever reason, thank you.
Hope you guys can share me your thoughts or what you enjoyed about it
Note : sorry that I accidentally posted this way too early while writing it. Phone screen has problems + random inputs.
After looking around a bit I found the preview video from Noisy Pixel,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8BwUXzhR5Q
Around 1:39 they shown the battle BGM setting in the menu along with BGM list, look like the game gonna have battle BGM of the mainline Tales games from Phantasia up tp Arise, 2 BGM per title so we should have around 30+ BGM in the playlist, you can slow down the video to see the their name. Celestia Battle is my most favorite one by the way
In my opinion Graces have an underwhelming battle BGM compare to the other titles, I think this is a good addition, do you guys gonna get the deluxe edition?
