Hope everyone's doing ok in the typhoon! We are going to head to Tainan tomorrow. I'm wondering how we can get to Guanziling hot springs & Jingzaijiao Tile-paved Salt Field. Would uber be available out in those places? We were almost stuck yesterday in SML after we couldn't find an uber back from somewhere (no one would call us a taxi).
Or if anyone has info on last minute english drivers that would be helpful
Hi I will be arriving in Tainan soon. I am a drummer and ready to make some music!
Hey nice people of tainan, I'm currently in your lovely city and am searching for postcards. I've tried everywhere but have not been lucky. Can someone help me. Thank you!
I am a tourist and couldn't get a ticket to the game tonight.
Given its a sell out, I assume people care a bit about it - are there any bars or places where people watch it live?
Hi all
Visiting Tainan on Monday. Just wondering how the recovery is from the typhoon?
I'm in Tainan for the next 11 months and am looking for a group to run a DnD campaign with! I have experience DMing and playing and am happy to do either. Ideally we'd play once a week or once every two weeks. No experience necessary! I live in 東區 and have a scooter so getting around isn't a problem. Send me a message if you're interested!
Hi I'll be travelling and studying in taiwan, mainly tainan for around 1 and a half months this November. Just wondering if anyone has good pourover coffee/specialty coffee cafes to check out?
Thanks
I’m in Tainan for the next 5 days.. normally based in Taipei.. if any wants a drink let me know. 😎
6pm onwards
(M38.. if it matters)..
Hi everyone, I recently received a job offer to work in Tainan City, Annan District, with a monthly salary of NTD 30,000/+. I’m trying to get a sense of whether this amount would be enough to live comfortably in this area.
Some details about me: I’m single and will be living alone.I’m used to a relatively simple lifestyle. I would need to budget for rent, utilities, food, transportation, and other living expenses. I’m not familiar with the cost of living in Taiwan, particularly in Tainan.
Could anyone share their experiences or insights on whether NTD 30,000 per month is sufficient? Any advice on finding affordable housing, budgeting tips, or other things I should consider would be greatly appreciated
!Thanks in advance for your help!
Looking for some indoor activities to do with my grandma when I visit her in Tainan at the end of August. I’ve found some museums to visit but wondering if there’s other activities we can do to stay active out of the heat. Thanks!
Hi hi. My family with 2 young daughters are coming to Tainan for a few days later this week (Thursday-Sat) staying in a hotel near Tainan TRA station. Is Uber to old city and night markets an option to see the tourist things? Taxi? Bus? Our young daughter is having a hard time with the heat so we are debating paying up for a room near the old city.
any hot weather kid tourism advice also welcome Thanks!
Hello hello~
I'm in the city for ~2 months, looking to meet some people and maybe make some friends to eat and visit the city with! Please hmu if you're interested, or recommendations are welcome too!
Hoping to hear from you! :D <3
Hey guys, i will be coming to Taiwan for the first time from India to study at NCKU for summer school in July. Anything I need to know before coming? I was hoping to make friends before reaching there as I am going to be there just for 3 weeks. My dms are open. Feel free to message.
Have you guys heard of this movie 18x2? My friend and I (who also lives here in Tainan) watched it. It's a Japan x Taiwan collab, and more or less, half of the film was shot in Tainan. Thought you guys might take interest.
We've seen it in ShinKong Ximen and they have English subtitles.

I speak intermediate Mandarin but the 2 times I’ve gone to Taiwanese barbers, they’ve messed up my haircut. Is there any good English speaking barber shops where I can describe things like blending my hair or giving me a fade? If they can dye/bleach hair is a plus. Might re-bleach sometime.
Hi !!! French queer (M27) artist here :) I’m in Tainan for two months and would love to find a community / people to hang out and share with 🫂 Hmu 🌸

Hi folks, any good South Indian restaurant in and around tainan ?
Is there any way to order birthday cake from other part of the world to a friend living Tainan and surprise them on their b'day? I tried to find shops but not able to place an order , if there any ways to do it , please let me know
Hey, as the title suggestions, this is my 4th time in Tainan and I'm starting to get bored. I'm pretty sure this means I'm just not finding the right places. Last time I was here I was trying to find goth/emo/punk bars and came up with nothing but a closed shop called "little Devil" and a website dedicated to the punk scene here... that stoped posting in like 2014 or something like that.
I'm at the Shangri-la far east, I walk about everywhere, and I'm just looking for things to do and people to hang out with. If anyone is down to get a drink (My treat) or catch some live music (Rock, Punk, stuff you move to), or just really is excited by Tainan and can show me what I'm missing.
As a side note, some of the things here I really do enjoy:
Sixpence gallery: Awesome. The staff is friendly and fun, and the art there is always something I enjoy. Across the street from them is an art gallry that changes a decent amount.
Nest DE: Fusion food, the Japanese fried noodles are killer, staff friendly and fun. They also can bring the spice.
The little tech strip by the train station: I do enjoy just going out and exploring what they have in stock around there.
I've played pool at legends once or twice, but that's a bit more club then I'm down with as the night goes on.
I look forward to hearing from you guys!
Hi ,
Could someone suggest a good place to go look for second hand electric scooter in Tainan?
Also which brand would be reliable to purchase?
Hi,
Am planning for an 8 days December Taiwan trip, driving a rental car from Tainan HSR --> Kenting --> Maolin --> Tainan HSR
Is it advisable / easy to drive /easier alternatives?
Have good driving experience but first time driving in Taiwan and on right hand side of the road. Reason for starting from Tainan instead of Kaohsiung is to avoid city traffic..
Thanks!
What would it cost roughly for a taxi from the Tainan HSR station to the regular train station in the city centre?
I have been here for about a month, got a month left. Just bored.
I have an interview with Phoenix Group Asia today. They’ve told me I seem like a good candidate, and they have positions available in Tainan. Although I’ve heard that some people have had bad experiences with this agency, I think I will probably accept if they offer me a position (the problem I heard about was refusing to pay promised flight reimbursements during covid).
I’m willing to overlook a certain level of sketchiness because I haven’t found many job openings that meet my fairly narrow criteria. I’m only willing to work in Tainan city (partner will be studying at university there), and I would really prefer to work in a public school instead of a buxiban. My reasoning for this is that I prefer morning over evening hours, I want to avoid any potential legal problems around working with kids under 6, and also it seems like public school would be a better choice professionally, I have experience, I genuinely love teaching and working with English learners and I want to make it my career (not just going for the chance to travel cheaply).
I’d appreciate any experiences or recommendations you could share with me!
大家好 This sub doesn’t seem too active but I’m in Tainan for another week and could use some friendly activity companions. I’m in the East district nearish NCKU.
Things I’m down for: Eating (particularly spicy foods) Movies: new John Wick anyone? Hiking. If you have an extra bike I’m down to cycle. Going for foot massages Billiards or ping pong Gaming (board or video) Cocktails/ bars (on the weekends) Language exchange (my Mandarin is pretty poor) happy to help review English writings as well. Day trips. Pretty open to any suggestions too. Have done most of the touristy things in prior visits, but happy to tag along if that’s on your list. Running partner (so I don’t go home weighing an extra 15lbs lol)
Me: I’m working US hours on weekdays, so unavailable after 8pm. MBA & work in finance, visiting family, based in NYC. 40/M. Ok using Line or Whatsapp.
Hi! I got a scholarship to study Mandarin at NCKU this summer. I am an absolute beginner, so forgive me for not using Mandarin :) I have been looking at airbnb for a summer sublet, as I will be in Tainan from June - August, but the prices are really really high! I've also looked at booking.com and some other sites like homeaway and vrbo, etcetera, all the normal places. I'm hoping that someone in this subreddit might have another idea about finding temporary accommodation. I am a 40 year old woman, so staying long-term in a hostel is not ideal. I will be looking for a teaching job in Taiwan (I'm a k-12 art teacher) anywhere on the island to start after my summer course is over, so I don't want to sign a lease in Tainan in case I need to relocate to a different city. Thank you for any help! My budget is MAXIMUM 16,000NTD all included (with utilities etc.)
Thank you all and I look forward to spending time in lovely Tainan!
