OK. so whats this subreddit all about?
For Tailors. it is a place you can show off your work, ask questions about other peoples work, and offer constructive criticism (and I mean constructive. no saying work is rubbish without an explanation) we can all learn more from each other this way. some folk might have more efficient or better ways of doing things while others might spend the time to get something to look spot on. share and share alike
For folk learning. here is a place you can ask your questions and hopefully get good answers. For trained tailors I think we all need to agree that its a dying trade and we need to keep it alive. this is one way.
For general folk who can't so much as sew, its a good place to get your questions aswered if you have any. for example, if you have a suit that doesn't quite fit properly and want to know if anything can be done. or if your not sure about the fit of your suit, you can post a photo of yourself wearing said suit (no birthday suits. we got gonewild for that) and a tailor can have a look
if we get enough tailors that are interested, we can do a wikithing. because there is bugger all information on the internet for mens cutting and tailoring apart from one (very good) forum

I have a pair of loose/wide fit cargo pants that I've been thinking about bringing to a tailor because they're just two inches too long for them to fit how I want them to. Would I have to worry about getting them back and the pants being tapered or have any tightness around the cuffs from the process? I apologize if this question sounds dumb as I don't know much about tailoring at all.
I need helping finding the best brand for dress shirts. I am 6’5 205 with a fit build. I have a skinny waist. Everything I find is too puffy when tucked in and the arms are too billowy. Brooks brothers extra slim soho were pretty good. Nordstrom when they used to do the 17 36x37 extra trim were an excellent fit. Any recommendations? Everything I find is just slim fit type which doesn’t really help. I need an extra trim style where it tapers. Charles Thrywitt? Paul Frederick??
Help!
I really love everything about this dress except for the neckline. It doesn’t fit well and it is too revealing for me. I’d like to move the neckline up while still keeping the v shape. I don’t want to put something underneath it. Is there any way to alter this neckline, move it upward and make it more conservative?
Hello! I am apart of a wedding in October this year and the bride has requested that the bridesmaids get bra cups and added support tailored into their dresses. I wear a 42H size bra and need a lot of support in the chest area due to having breastfed two children along with the general having of a larger chest.
Is it possible to tailor all that support in the dress (sleeveless and has thin straps with a v-neckline) for less than $100? Is that even a thing? Thanks!!
I'm new to getting clothes tailored & I took a pair of pants in that are much too big in the waist, hips, and butt. I attached a photo of what the original seam looked like & what it looks like now. Is there a reason why they could not have come closer to the original seam? Why did they finish the seam this way? Also when I put them on they look strange in my butt area, not flattering at all. There's a weird folding/creasing of the fabric in the butt area. This was hard to photograph, but I tried to capture it. Can this be fixed or are the pants ruined?
Is it possible to make these pants into a skirt?
Hi all, I recently bought a shirt that’s pressed in a camp collar without a button closure at the top. I would love if it had a more traditional cut and a top button. The shirt did come with an extra button. Would a tailor be able to press out the camp collar folds, add a matching button hole and the extra button at the top? Is this a fairly normal job for a tailor? Or are they not the place to go for this? Thanks for your help!
I purchased this dress to wear for a welcome event during my wedding weekend. The skirt has an exaggerated bell shape that is created by several tiered layers of horse hair crinoline.
It arrived in a box, all folded up. Now the crinoline layers are bent out of shape. I tried using my hands to bend the crinoline back into shape, but it didn’t work.
Any ideas?
I have a Corduroy Jacket in the style of a Levi's Type 2 Denim Jacket. I was wondering if shortening the sleeves would be easy for a tailor. Is there any specific difficulty because the material is corduroy or is it pretty much the same thing.

Hello,
I’m looking for advice on where I can find somebody to create a jumpsuit for me, I’m based in the UK but not in a rush so happy to look globally.
Contemplating buying this vintage carhartt Jacket with some pretty serious tears. Is this mendable?
The top layer is shorter than the slip but only in the front. Happens when I stand straight as well. I don’t have a lot of time before the event but if anyone has an idea for a quick fix I’d love to hear it. Thanks!
When constructing a shirt sleeve, what effect will the number of pleats have if all other measurements are kept the same?
What I mean is, what would be the difference in final shape of the sleeve between the two options:
That would mean a sleeve ending with a circumference of 60mm larger than the cuff circumference. So the sleeve width, pitch, cuff width would all remain the same. Only the number of pleats would change.
More context: it is tweed suit, so I know it’ll be a bit costlier than an average unlined jacket. Same for the waistcoat.
It’s virtually unworn and impossible to find this sort of suit now, which is why I’m considering it and then tailoring.
My tailor had the button option sewn on because at the time I wasn’t wearing cufflinks. Now that I am, I want to remove the button; however I do not want to make a custom tailored shirt look cheep by removing the button and it be obvious that a button was sewed on the shirt.
Does anyone have experience with this?
I've always wanted to learn how to do something with my hands. I've got an obsessive personality and a high interest in men's fashion. I've been having my own suits constructed by professionals for a few years now. I'm a client always bugging them about the details, really wanting everything to be perfect. If I wanted to put my career on hold and learn how to tailor men's suits, what sort of timeline would I be looking at?
Thank you I've been enjoying the sub.
Not a fancy or custom made suit and I know that the sleeves need to be brought up (going to a tailor this weekend). I’m more questioning whether or not the front of the suit fits properly and if I should ask the tailor to adjust that area as well. Going up to the next size is definitely big (felt like I was swimming in it). My problem is my gut…while I’ve lost weight the weight in my gut has been slower to fall off.
