Sorry if this has been asked to death. The answers I keep finding when I search about this have been conflicting or end up suggesting putting the liquor in checked bags (a big no for me). I want to buy a single bottle of rum (ideally in LAX) and have that be my carry-on between Papeete and Bora Bora (I'll be checking everything else). I understand it wouldn't be an issue to get it from LAX to Papeete. But would I encounter any issues trying to bring it as carry-on from Papeete to Bora Bora? Not worried about weight as it will be the only item. More so worried about if they will recognize the LAX seal and wave the carry-on liquid limit in security.
If it will be a problem, I will plan on just getting it at the Duty Free in Papeete instead.
The title basically.
I know a Schengen issued by a random Schengen country doesn't allow me to visit French Polynesia because those territories aren't part of Schengen.
But I have Schengen visa issued by the French consulate.
Is that good for my visit to Polynesia since France itself issued me the visa?
Hi All,
Do the overnight flights from LAX to Tahiti (leaving at 12:00 PM) offer meals?
Thank you.
If I "really" want to spend time back-to-back on BOTH Tikehau & Rangiroa, can I get from one to the other without flying back to PPT?
We’re arriving to Tahiti from Moorea on a Saturday morning and are flying out the next day. Is it possible to get the permit from city hall on Saturday morning, the hours say it is closed Saturday and Sunday. Any other way to get to the falls and be fine?
Today I showed up at the airport, printed my boarding pass, just to get it taken away when I wanted to check my bag, due to cancelled flight. AirTahiti gave me no prior information at all, I even got a confirmation the night before.
The staff said it is due to firemen strike, is that the case? I have seen a post now, stating that they have been striking in summer already.
What are my rights as a customer in such case? In Europe there is a law that you would get a refund. I have spent half of my months earning on these flights and I can‘t believe its gone down the drain just like that. Has anybody gotten a refund?
Also, does anybody, maybe a local, know how long this strike is gonna take? How can I be sure my other flight next week doesnt get cancelled either?
Help and any experiences like that are appreciated, Thank you!
Anyone else affected by the firemen strike going on right now? My husband and I are on our honeymoon and supposed to get on a week long scuba liveaboard in Fakarava today. Got notified that our flight today from Papeete to Fakarava is cancelled due to strikes. And we cannot figure out any alternative options (doesn’t look like there are any ferries). Anyone in a similar situation or have any ideas on how to get to Fakarava? We also have not been able to in touch with our PADI liveaboard boat which has been a real frustration too.
Hi everyone, we are going on our first trip to FP for our honeymoon next August.
I’ve got the other islands sorted but looking for recommendations about where to stay in Moorea.
We will certainly rent a car for the week we are there. I’ve read the north west is really good. We want somewhere quiet but close to snorkelling sites as want to spend majority of the time in the water.
Looking at airbnbs rather than hotels!
I read that there can sometimes be cruise ships in the two bays in the north? But equally these are super picturesque bays so don’t want to miss out!
Any advice greatly appreciated! Thanks :)
Entered in the wrong birthday on our flight. Put the month instead of the date and booked the ticket. I've tried to modify it online and I called and modified. However when I still look up my booking online it has the wrong birthday.
Assuming it is not fixed...Is this going to be an issue?
Hi all! My friends and I will be in Tahiti in a few weeks and were wondering if we should also bring cash? If so, US dollars or local currency?
Is it true that if I buy a Premium Semi Flex ticket it gets me into the premium seating behind Business Class BUT it is open seating unless you pay for a seat assignment? If that is the case and if you don't pay for an assigned seat how does that work? You may not even be able to find a seat adjacent to your spouse once everyone gets on before you.
I don’t know if anyone on this sub is interested but I’m an American English teacher and I’ve been teaching for almost ten years across the world. 🌎
I’m opening English game classes in Papeete in January. I’m just waiting for my products to arrive so I can get started.
It will be fun and immersive classes for the kids allowing them to learn English in a natural environment while having fun. That’s the goal anyway. I did the same thing in China and it was wildly successful so I’m hoping that it will work here also.
I’m making the classes very affordable. I’ve looked at all the other English schools and researched pricing. My prices will be, on average, only half of what you pay at any other English school on the island.

Thank you 🙏
My husband has been working himself to death this past year and decided we need to get away for the winter break. It’s last minute but we have gotten pretty good deals since it’s low season. Trying to balance some luxury with cost efficiency to not break the bank.
Us: Mid 30’s/Early 40’s couple. Wants to relax, swim, snorkel, hike, kayak, some tours, general water activities. Perfectly happy not doing much as well. Plan on mostly cooking or eat at Snacks when not at resort.
No flights, all ferries. Don’t want to bother with flying. Took a while to pin ferry schedule but think we got it. Terevau and Apetahi Express for ferries.
2 nights in Tahiti just to rest after the flight and look around Papeete.
8 nights in Moorea at airbnb. Looking for rental car.
7 days Tahaa. 3 nights at Le Tahaa and 4 nights at Villa Lou Faret. Also explore Raiatea during this time. Need car while at Villa? Would have been fine with 3 nights at the Villa but ferry schedule didn’t work out.
3 nights Bora Bora at airbnb. Car one day?
Did we do okay?
I tried this during my stay in Tahiti and ended up eating it every day, sometimes multiple times a day (there was a big bowl of it at the hotel breakfast every morning which helped!)
Two places where I found it to be particularly outstanding were:
So now the challenge is to try and make it back in Sydney.
Going on a trip next August/September. Does Air Tahiti change the flight schedules much between now and then? Do the flights typically run on time?
The last (non stop) flight from BOB to PPT leaves at 6:05 PM landing at 6:55. I assume that is plenty of time to make a connection for a 9:20 PM flight. But if that flight were to get cancelled or be delayed I'd be in trouble.
As I type this I feel like I answer my question why risk it vs taking the 4 PM and just waiting at the airport.
But any thoughts here?
How does the whole thing of resort on a private island work. Do they shuttle you to the main island for free so you can tour? Do they expect you to stay on their site the whole time? Is it a pain to schedule trips to the main island? Sorry we are used to walking out of the room and touring the destination.
Edit: Really thinking several islands, Bora Bora, Tahaa, Moorea. Maybe it is not an applicable question for all, just overwhelmed trying to plan. We like seeing the sights not just the beaches and water. Maybe FP is not what I am thinking it is.
Hi everyone,
We’re flying CDG-PPT with a stop in LAX (2.5 hours layover). It’s the same flight number, but I assume we’ll have to leave the plane and go through U.S. immigration (so we’ll need an ESTA)?
Do we also have to collect our checked luggage and go through customs, or will it stay on the plane?
Thanks for your help!
I shopped at manua poterie once but looks like they'll be closed when I visit over new years. any other recommendations for mugs, plates, etc.
Hiya, looking for some accommodation advice!
We are staying in Huahine for 5 nights next August. We were initially looking at places on the beach in the Fare region but also saw there are some places on the same island but on the east coast.
We read that the snorkelling is brilliant by the abandoned Sofitel (near the east coast accommodations) but worried this area might be a little too remote as we want to take a lagoon tour, scuba dive, snorkel as much as possible and rent a car one day to drive both islands.
Huahine isn’t as visited so I can’t see much advice online.
Any help would be amazing! Thanks in advance!
I am confused on how to use the Air Tahiti multipass.
I have tried a couple attempts to do Moorea - Bora Bora - Huahine - Bora Bora - Tahiti, but can’t get it to work.
The pass only seems to work when I put Tahiti as the first island departure and last destination. Does the pass require the first and last leg to start in Tahiti and end in Tahiti? I tried using Moorea and it wouldn’t work.
Are you not able to visit an island twice with the pass? I’m trying to visit Bora Bora twice
Hello, I tried to find information, but without luck. Are there any resorts in French Polynesia that offer Bicycles for guests that can be used to travel around the resort and island?
Hey all! I went to Moorea and it was so beautiful but only stayed 2 days. Going back now and want to split up 12 days between Moorea and Rangiroa. Which island did yall like better? How many days should I stay in each? Leaning toward spending most of the time in Rangiroa but am afraid I’ll get board. Any help or suggestions would be so much appreciated. Thank you!
My phone suddenly broken. I want to buy a new iphone or pixel. What is the suggested place?
Arriving into PPT in Feb and renting a car. How far in advance do I need to book the car ferry over to Mo’orea?
What should we do to kill time until our super late flight? I heard a lot of places will be closed on Sundays.
We have one more day in Moorea and then we'll be spending the day in Tahiti before our flight.
Any recommendations on where to buy little girl's dresses at a decent price? I think we saw them for around 2000-2500 at the market (best prices I've seen. )
Hi Reddit users,
is it true that Tahiti being a territory of France is the equivalent of Puerto Rico being a territory of the USA?
