I made ratemyprofessors but for classes: Rate My Courses

Hi Everyone,

I have been working for some time now on this website ratemycourses.io and I am really excited to share it with you.

You can use this to look at reviews and get advice on courses you're interested in. You can also sort courses by difficulty, usefulness and the overall rating from reviews made by other students. I think if enough people start using it regularly. it's going to be essential when you're choosing your electives or just to get advice on courses you will be taking.

Lastly, filtering and sorting courses is only gonna be useful and accurate if there are a lot of reviews, so please go ahead and leave some reviews to courses you've taken or are currently taking.

Also, please dm me if you have an idea on how I can let more students know about this. And if anyone is interested in writing an article about this dm me!

Enjoy!!

What’s the best meal plan for a commuter student?

I have on campus classes all day Wednesday. I’m wondering what would be the best meal plan for this? It looks like I’ll only need one meal for that day. What advice would current and former students have guys? Or should I just pack a lunch.

Fines for visiting a student?

Hey, my girlfriend is going here in the fall and i’m planning to visit her every once in a while and i saw a video on youtube about $150 fines for someone being in your room after 10 pm? Is this something I need to worry about or do they not really check students dorms?

Dropping Classes

I was informed today that even if i drop a class i am still expected to make my payments in full as if I am still taking the course. Has anyone else experienced this? Thats insane how can I be charged for a class I am not taking? I dropped the class due to the work load not being manageable for myself this semester and to try to preserve my gpa. So I either take on this class to not waste my money but risk hurting my gpa? Or i keep my gpa clear and i waste possibly thousands of dollars. This is nuts.

Student Leadership Opportunity: Helping Homeless Communities

Hi everyone! Hearts for the Homeless International is a student-led nonprofit organization that provides free blood-pressure screening opportunities and heart health education to homeless populations around the United States and globally. We are a team of undergraduate students, medical students, PhD students, medical doctors, and other professionals who are invested in improving the well-being of homeless communities around the world- including yours. H4H was originally founded by students at the University of Central Florida and has since grown into an international organization with over 15 chapters across the United States, Brazil, and India. With your passion, we aim to work with you to help you positively impact your homeless community. Together, we can better fulfill our goal of improving the condition of humanity!

We are interested in working with student leaders who want to innovate, to serve, and to enact change. For student leaders who are interested, all we ask is for your time, leadership, and compassion. We will take care of the rest. The lives you will change, the friends you will make, and the experiences you will gain will be invaluable.

The work of our students has helped so many, and for this reason, it has been recognized by the US Congress, the Brazilian government, President Clinton, educational and medical institutions, and other non-profit institutions as well. Some of our other significant achievements include leading an effort to rescue the homeless in multiple cities from hurricanes, partnering with Shark Tank’s Bombas Socks, as well as being published by Forbes Magazine.

We want to be able to help serve the struggling homeless community in San Antonio, especially during the pandemic. With the most recent Point-In-Time Count, it was discovered that San Antonio has a homeless population of nearly 3,000. As the Hearts for the Homeless San Antonio President, you will positively impact your community with a great international team supporting your drive to help others and implementing any great ideas you suggest.

Are you interested in being a H4H leader that makes a difference in your community? Use our response sheet, and let us know! https://goo.gl/forms/CSHqrij5XZ5XmBZ73

Campus police are pulling a lot of people over this morning. Speed limit is 30. Its hard to see the sign since it is very close to intersection you turn into.

I'm "actually trying to study for a quiz in an empty classroom and keep hearing the sirens..

Cyber Security Club - Learning Opportunities and Competitions

Hello! I'm Eddie Flores, now a Sophomore at TAMUSA. We've had a student Cyber Security organization for the past few years, but it hasn't been well-advertised or well-known. As of this Summer, I'm the President of said organization, and I intend to change that!

What we do: Starting the first week of Fall semester, we'll have weekly meetings designed to learn about Cyber Security topics (penetration testing, system administration, and programming are all on the menu), as well as gaming events to come together as a team, both of which will be extremely useful when it comes to competitions!

The first meeting will take place the first Friday of Fall 2018 Semester (August 24th) and will feature Cards Against Humanity.

Where do we meet: Modular C, Room 102B, colloquially known as the Cyber Lab. Here it is on a map, in the very bottom center. It'll be the absolute last room on the right hand side.

When do we meet: Every Friday from 4:00PM - 5:00PM, but this can be changed depending on when most of the members are free.

What competitions do we compete in: In the Fall, we participate in CyberPanoply, a virtual hacking competition wherein we compete against other local Universities to hack into vulnerable computers and then defend those systems against the other teams. Last year, we sent one team to the finals and we hope to do ever better this year!

In the Spring, we participate in CCDC, a national-level System Administration/Security Analyst competition wherein we are given a fully built corporate network and are to defend against a constant onslaught from attackers, all while we handle regular business tasks like installing Microsoft Office on a computer.

If either of those competitions sound interesting, there's always a place on the team! If they sound daunting, don't worry - there will be bi-weekly training to prepare you for these competitions!

We'll be putting out notices on JagSync, the campus social network, for every meeting. Look for the Information Systems Security Association organization - that's us! I hope to see you soon!

Course availability - B.A.A.S. IT

Hi all,

I'm transferring soon to complete the B.A.A.S. in IT and was wondering how hard it is to schedule classes. There are 36 credit hours that need to be done at TAMU-SA, is it realistic to expect to do them in 2 semesters + a summer?

Thank you!
