[Hiring] Infrastructure Engineer / Sysadmin at IVPN [Fully remote - Europe][EUR 55k-70k]

Please note for this role we are only recruiting within the UTC-1 to UTC+3 timezones.

IVPN is a mission driven company with a narrow focus on privacy within the larger VPN consumer market. We have been around for 13 years and have a mature and successful operation. We are in the process of making significant improvements to our VPN infrastructure utilising new technologies to radically improve the transparency of our service.

We are looking for an experienced infrastructure engineer to upgrade and maintain our existing high performance network of VPN servers and related infrastructure. The position is fully remote with high level of autonomy and requires that you thrive in this type of environment.

What you will work on

  • You will collaborate with our team to implement a new server architecture for our VPN gateways that we have been working on for the past year that is open, immutable, diskless, secure and built on leased bare-metal servers.
  • You will be responsible for maintaining and ensuring the high availability of our large network of servers in production using your expertise in Dev-ops and general Linux server administration. Occasionally, you will be required to address urgent issues beyond normal working hours.
  • You will be responsible for interfacing with ISP's to resolve upstream network issues.
  • You will provide tier 2/3 support to our customer support team for issues relating to infrastructure.

What can you expect

  • We work in a fully remote setting with a high degree of independence. This means maximum freedom, minimum meetings.
  • If your ideal workplace offers regular meetups and busy chat channels, IVPN is probably not a good fit for you. On the other hand, if you value autonomy and focused work, you will appreciate our culture.
  • We offer 25 days of vacation per year, the hardware of your choice to do your job, plus ample budget for your research projects.

How we stand out from the crowd of VPN providers

  • Early adopters of the latest protocols and technologies (like WireGuard) to improve our service.
  • Strict ethical stances around data collection and marketing practices - principles over profits.
  • Clear commitment to regular audits and transparency.
  • Calling out bad practices in the VPN industry and shunning false promises
  • Recommended by experts whose voice we truly value - those not motivated by affiliate payouts.

Job requirements

  • Strong understanding and interest in infosec, specifically with regards to cryptographic controls used on servers e.g. Public key crypto, reproducible builds, TPM.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, SSL/TLS and other related Internet protocols
  • Strong experience working with a configuration management tool e.g. Ansible, Puppet, Salt.
  • 5+ years experience managing Linux servers including bare-metal.
  • 5+ years experience with Python, Go or other scripting languages.

US visa sponsorship roles? AWS/Devops/SRE/Architecture

Been contemplating this for some time and with recent life events I've decided to pursue the idea I've had for many years and look to move to the US. I'm currently working in the UK and would need visa sponsorship assistance so looking for positions that can facilitate this.

Where are the best places these days to find US Jobs(Onsite or Remote) that support visa applications? I've over 15 years of experience in Sysadmin/Network & Infrastructure across varying technologies and 7 years dealing primarily within AWS building massively scalable technologies supporting companies from smb to enterprise designing and implementing cloud migrations, CI/CD configurations and lots of IAC/Python/general automation.

Not expecting to find some unicorn role immediately, but hoping to find more places to look in my search, or if anyone has a company that's hiring I'd be happy to provide a full CV with a lot more detail on specific technologies, projects and other work.

(Seeking Advice) SysAdmin / Tech Support roles overseas

Hi All

Looking for some advice as to whether my goals are out of reach or not. I'm an Australian citizen that would love the opportunity to live and work in the US or Canada.

I have been entering the US Green card Lottery every year, but so far have been unsuccessful in selection. I have also sat the IELTS test to start an Express Entry profile for Canada. I genuinely like my current job, just after a change of scenery if possible. No partner or kids, so am more than happy to move to the other side of the world, as daunting as it seems.

I quite enjoy the EDU side of IT, but would be open to any industry potentially. Never done work from home, and not a deal breaker either way.

Background

  • 18+ years in IT, 12 in an EDU environment.
  • No university qualifications - am entirely self taught. Have obtained ITIL and a couple of Microsoft certs. Usually I study the material but never bother sitting the exams to formalise the knowledge.

My current role is as the sole IT support for a school of 700 students / 100 staff (approx.). I have been at this school for 12 years, first as the L1 tech support alongside the previous IT manager, with the last 5 or so being the IT Manager (solo department). Think jack of all trades type role:

  • Desktop Operating Systems (Windows 7, 10, 11, macOS)
  • System & Network Administration (Group Policy, AD, DNS/DHCP, Hyper-V Virtualisation Clustered & Standalone, Scripting)
  • Server Technologies & Software (Docker, SCCM/MECM, Papercut, Munki)
  • Server Operating Systems (Windows Server 2003 - 2022, Ubuntu Server)
  • Google Workspace
  • Intune (entry level - have just migrated macOS fleet deployment strategies to Intune)
  • Canvas LMS

I also provide L2/3 support for Canvas (LMS) for multiple schools in the Catholic Diocese that use it, as well as being the go to guy for any SCCM questions from other schools.

Some Achievements

  • Deployed osTicket and Snipe IT as the College helpdesk and asset manager respectively. Wrote syncing scripts to share data between both services allowing greater visibility of issues over the lifespan of a device.
  • Use Snipe IT to automate SCCM deployments (auto selects device name, destination OU and image type based on device serial number).
  • Developed and implemented a custom bell system using a Raspberry Pi and Google Calendar. Some other schools have picked this up due to its simplicity and low cost compared to solutions they were using.

[FOR HIRE} IT Systems Administrator with 15yrs experience looking for IT Contract Roles

Hi Everyone,

I'm an IT Systems Administrator looking for an IT systems administrator/engineer contract role. I started an IT service company last year and I've slowly started picking up work, but not enough to pay all the bills. This is why I'm looking for contract roles. I could look for full time positions, but I don't want to give the impression that I will there long-term. I want to be clear and honest about my intentions.

Remote is desired, hybrid in Dallas-FortWorth

I have over 15yrs experience in designing, implementing and managing IT infrastructure. I've always been a jack of all trade in IT. If I needed to know it, I know how to search and learn. I enjoy the discovering and learning. I've worked full time for startup (<50 employees) to global companies (>10,000 employees). I have managed teams of 2 - 20 engineers.

Below are my skill sets and projects I have implemented.

Skills

Networking: DHCP; DNS; vLan setup; VPN configuration; APs

Hardware: Cisco Switches and Routers (Meraki, Small Business, ASA); Fortinet Router; Cisco UCS; Dell and HP Servers; HP Storage (Nimble); Dell Storage (EMC DataDomains, PowerScale);

Platforms: Windows Server; Mac OS; Linux; AWS; M365 (Entra); Active Directory; VMware; Hyper-V

Projects

Domain Migration and M365 for merger and acquisitions

I completed multiple domain migrations using ADMT. Created a new M365 tenant and configured a hybrid environment.

VMware Upgrades

I have completed full Vmware upgrades (6.0 - 6.7) including patching all hosts (Cisco USC), while maintaining uptime for critical applications

Networking

I have segregated critical administrator networks from user network through vLan creations and firewall rules.

Backup and DR

I have designed and implemented backup solution (Druva) including offsite and cloud (AWS) disaster recovery.
