I know someone has probably asked this, but are there any autosnap grid features to straighten and/or connect lines? It’s driving me crazy.
Does someone have a built shipping container file for 40HC?
Or a small home built out of one?
Also, is there a place where people share the homes they've built as complete files rather than screenshots or videos?
I'm planning a bathroom refurbishment project which involves certain elements of custom woodwork including a countertop with a sink on the top etc. Is sh3d the right tool for this or can I not model enough detail in it? What features in s3d can be used for this kind of design?
I've built a few layouts and smaller projects with SH3D and it's been fantastic at that. I'm now facing a project where I need to incorporate the clients yard. The house is built at the peek of the yard and there is considerable grading on each side.
Are there any options to import data from something like a GIS file to create the yard slope?
If not, has anyone meet this challenge before and how did you overcome it?
I'm just installed 3D Sweet Home 3D a few minutes ago, did my first project, but the image is ultra bright even with add celing lights off
any idea how to adjust it
My little brother spent some time making a house for fun without making an account, he lost page and the only save is in HTM. Is the house still salvageable ?
I just recently found out about Sweet Home 3D, and I think this is a wonderful piece of software. I would never have guessed that a FOSS tool for 3D home interior designing would exist.
While the UI is a bit old, the UX is amazing. And in terms of features, it has everything you need while keeping very simple and well organized menus. I am really impressed by this software.
As I understand, the current SCM solution for the code base is SVN. Does anyone in this community knows if there have been plans to move this over to Git and host it on platforms such as GitLab or GitHub? I do think it would bring a lot more visibility and people to this project.
Since it is FOSS and under GNU GPL, anyone would be free to fork it and put it on GitHub (and I believe someone already put up a mirror). But, I am curious as to if moving to Git has been considered?
Hello,
i try to model my house in sweethome 3d and i dont know how to model my cellar ceiling, which is not flat but round. In german it is called "Kellergewölbe" i think. My room looks really similar to the picture attached.
I imported all the additional furniture and texture libraries. But the icons are tiny, they don't zoom if you hover over them. Is there any way to search please?
And also, there is a scrollbar, but the scroll slider is invisible. Is there a way to fix this?
Does it make any difference if I draw four walls of a room separately, or as a single connected wall with four articulations? Completely new user here and not sure if it's something I need to spend time getting right. Thanks.
The other problem I'm having drawing walls on top of my background image is that I have to end each wall joint a little before the end of the wall on the plan, because each new joint starts from the very end of the last wall, not inset back from the width of the wall. Any tactic to make this easier than my current visual guessing?
[solved] Hi all, just downloaded the Sweet Home 3d mobile app, but it isn’t allowing me to open up any of my desktop created files. #fail
Edit: success there is an import icon in the app that isn’t in the menu. So now I can view my drawings on the run.
A short tutorial on how to use Sweet Home 3D, SketchUp, and a bunch of free resources for do-it-yourself interior design: Free Interior Design With Sweet Home 3D and SketchUp
I was surprised to find that many required tools and models are completely free and simple so that I could do everything myself. Hope this tutorial will help others starting their interior design project.
Hey everyone,
We're hosting a Career Navigator session with alumni who previously took our course, with our speakers Alessio Grancini, SenioR AR Prototyper at MagicLeap, and our XR Bootcamp architect students (like Astha Kapila) to share their successful career pathways into VR/AR. This is great for Architects, Industrial Designers, CAD, 3D designers, Interior Designers, BIM / AEC, or a physical product designer curious about seamlessly transitioning into XR.
We've had so many professional architects go through XR Foundations and Prototyping Bootcamp and successfully graduated and broke into the XR industry afterward and our grads would love to share their experience!

Anyone come across a pegboard for a garage setup? I can create one but why re-invent...
Thanks all, RT
All,
I've looked for a mulch texture, but can't seem to find one...anybody know where to locate?
TIA
I’ve been using SweetHome3D for a few years, and have created floor plans for 3 different houses. I’ve created and edited some of my own furniture models in Blender. It’s been very helpful for practical calculations. For example, I used it to figure out the layout of our laundry and bought a cabinet and small bench that perfectly fit in our space.
I still struggle with a few things, and wanted to start a discussion and get some advice. I’ve never been very happy with the image renders. I feel like I can never get the lighting quite right, and nothing looks “professional”. To use some video game analogies: A basic render with no effort looks like a PS1 game, and if you put a lot of effort into it you might get up to PS2 or even a PS3. How do I get to PS5, like the beautiful renders you see on Pinterest or Instagram? Is that possible with SweetHome3D?
One problem I run into is that renders slow to a crawl whenever I add too many lights. I don’t know if this is optimized properly, and I feel like it raytraces the entire house, even if I’m just rendering one room.
Do y’all use a different program for high quality renders? Or has anyone switched to a more professional application? Is there a paid option that’s a lot better? I’m willing to pay a lot of money to get a license for something that the professionals use. But I can’t seem to find anything much better! So I think I just need to get better at using SweetHome3D. I especially need to get better at modeling and creating my own furniture and textures, because that’s an important skill no matter what software I use.
The built-in furniture library is quite limited and feels like it hasn’t had a lot of updates since the 90s. Are there any better and more modern libraries that I should be using? I do end up downloading a lot of stuff from the sketchup 3D warehouse, but some of the models are huge and have tons of triangles, or they just end up crashing SweetHome3D.
I’m working on a picture gallery wall where I’m hanging a ton of pictures. It’s super frustrating to do this in SweetHome3D. It would be awesome if you could switch to a “2D editor” mode where you can drag pictures and posters around on the wall. In the meantime, I might just do that in InkScape or GIMP and then import the whole wall as a texture. (You don’t see the lighting and shadows for the picture frames in 3D, but I guess it’s not too important.) Would be nice if there was a way to directly edit a texture in GIMP from the app, and then save it back to a temporary file which updates the texture in SweetHome3D. I’m really tired of dragging an image file and clicking 7 buttons over and over again.
The last thing I wanted to mention is VR. It would be amazing if I could walk around my room in VR and move furniture and pictures around, or choose new furniture and rugs from a library. Has anyone done this? Do you have a workflow that you’re happy with?
Look forward to starting a discussion with some other users. Feel free to reply to one specific thing if you have some experience or advice!
I have a garden that has a really different elevation (2m or more of difference). Is it possible to plan the slopes and the different elevation there or is it always flat outside?
Hi all,
I was hoping for some help, it's more than likely something I am doing wrong.
I've designed the walls, inserted the floors, doors and windows. However, when I go to add furniture it doesn't appear correctly. In the aerial view, it will add the furniture outside the room, but as a weird dark point.
What am I doing wrong? From watching videos, it seems simple, as in drag and drop inside the building and the furniture appears.
Any advise?
In the SweetHome 3D online version, I don't see any button to export. I would like a PDF of the floorplans. The format is also quite different from screenshots I have seen. There's no black and white mode and there's no option to render it. How can I access these tools?
I created a 2-level structure with doors on the second level. 8 foot walls. When I try to add the Outdoor Staircase, it does not match the wall height. When I adjust the height, I get huge railings. A straight stair will fit correctly, but I need the landing at the top.
I tried the staircase generator, but it doesn't allow for an upper landing. Otherwise, the stair fit well enough.
Thanks!
I am looking for a staircase with a glass railing or just the railing that I can add to a generic staircase, any help would be appreciated.
I've build a texture library for Sweethome3D based on ambientcg.com materials textures.
3 qualities available: 1024, 512 and 256 pixels widths

Hello,
I am struggling to get the Dimensions feature and others to show the feet/inches numbers as I draw with the tool. That said, I could use any help here. Is there a paid version of the APP that will allow me to do this? I know occasionally I can hit the "return" key and it will appear but only for a moment. I want the dimensions feature and others to show me the exact feet and inches or inches as I draw them so I can freely draw with the tool. Please help!!!
Thank you, Scott
Hi guys,
as a last resort, im asking for help online although I have consulted the FAQ I tried everythings I spent 2 hours today and even more last days.
It all starts one day when my screen was down to a low refresh rate (60hz) and locked on it, so I did a graphics card driver update and it simply resolve my screen refresh rate locked. However the first time I opened Home Sweet Home 3D after this graphics care drivers update I saw this :
Searching online yields lots of posts where people are changing settings, but I can't for the life of me find where those settings are accessed.
Hey all,
Been using this for a while with the furniture/addon pack. Was wondering if there was anywhere else to get more addons?
Thanks
Hello,
I am loving SH3D! I have a complex building all mapped now, and for the purpose of sharing parts with interior architects, I would like to export floor plans of individual rooms, in such a way that the walls are labelled with their lengths, or whatever other method could be used to make it easy for a third party to deduce sizes.
I could not find a way to export the floor plan of a given room, or set of rooms, let alone distance measurements, which I seem to have to manually generate for every wall. Isn't there a way to just show them for all walls?
