Hello,
I am thinking about replacing my samurai's shocks, but keeping the stock leaf springs, although they aren't perfect, they still look ok, not as flat as I've seen in other users. The shocks are the original ones as well but looking really rusty. So my question is:
Will I feel any difference when replacing the front and rear shocks, or would I have to replace the leaf springs as well to feel any real difference in comfort?
Any opinion is welcome, whether or not you have been through an identical situation.
Thanks!
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a manufacturer of old pieces like the one in the picture. I know there are big Suzuki communities in Colombia and Indonesia and I'm trying to find a manufacturer in these countries.
Can anyone help me out ?
Thanks!
My samurai is feeling like it’s not getting fuel or like it’s losing power while driving. The idle is fine when not moving, however when get up to speed it starts to lose all power and crawls along. It will get bursts of power when I pump the gas pedal. What could this be? Any suggestions? I’m not mechanically inclined at all so any suggestions would be great.
Can anyone tell me that the leaf springs of a swb are the same length as the lwb?
I maybe want to start a lwb-project using parts of my current samurai build.
Thanks.
I’ve ordered a new body shell and was wondering what the approx. weight is. How difficult would it be for 3 or 4 grown adults to lift it onto the chassis?
It was quite a process getting to this point, as the seller disguised some nasty bits that the mechanic needed to help sort out.

Hello guys, it’s finally home. Do you have some market advice for the parts? And btw on the plate it says “sj510 xb” but I can’t find anything relatable to that model
Took the head off to replace head gasket and found this…
My uncle has a 1995 suzuki samurai that was originally my grandfather’s. It has a new engine and transmission, and is almost perfect condition (except for radio). I was thinking offering around 8,000 (keep in mind this will also be my first car, i am 15 currently) Thanks for helping guys!
1987 all stock samurai stock carb. Vacuum lines look like there are in correct place
Also it seems to be running quite rich. This makes me think of a vacuum line, I can also hear a pretty loud hissing, not sure how to check where it is
Did this with old motor and new motor in it does same thing. Have played with throttle cable and adjustment screw with messes with idle speed but still bouncy and irregular. Any ideas?

EDIT: I think the previous owner tried to hide the rough running with increasing tension in the throttle cable, which is why it only runs with a high idle.
My question to confirm this is, should the car be able to idle normally with the throttle cable disconnected? If I give the throttle cable too much slack it pretty much just bogs down and dies as soon as it starts.
What are you guys using nowadays for the fluids in your trans/diff/Tcase?
Hello guys, can someone give me measurements for this part?
I will try to make it(because in Serbia i cant find this part), but mine was totaly destroyed.
Thanks, a lot :)
Hi guys, I’ve recently bought my first Suzuki samurai and I’m finding that it’s really hard to get into first gear, also when I try to put it into reverse 8 out of 10 times the gear grinds. I’m not rushing it and I’ve checked on YouTube and tried putting it into 2nd before going to reverse and still no luck. Is this really bad? Any help / advice would be really appreciated. Thanks.
Got both birfield joints out today and used a pipe to try to separate them but after a CrossFit level workout they’re still connected to the axle shaft. Tried heating. Tried soaking in PB. Any recommendations?
Hi all, i am an owner of a 1988 Suzuki Jimny (similar to the samurai) that I no longer have a working engine for. I have done lots of research but I am new to the car scene and not 100% certain what would fit. I’m under the impression it will be a similar conversion for what is used in a Samurai - any help would be appreciated. I was told a Sierra engine would work but not sure how valid that is.
The current engine is a F5a, a 1.3L engine on a JA71 chassis.
Edit: Updated engine based on me incorrectly listing it.
Snagged this cracker off a dear friend. 88' SJ413. Loving it so far, and is in remarkable condition for the age. however, it seems to have developed a problem. So before I take it to a garage, I thought what better place to ask, that this subreddit!
It has been driving fine for the last day or two, and then all of sudden, seems to lose revs when it gets to 2500rpm- I can hold revs at 2500, and it'll quickly drop the revs and stall if I don't let off the throttle. Also it bogs down and stalls when trying to take off in first from a standstill, so have to revs it beyond 2500, and then it's very jumpy. It's now sat on the drive looking pretty :)
Apologies if that's not the best description, but help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
Bought a samurai as a first car, rebuilt the engine, change the trans fluid and about 4 weeks later noticed that shifting into 2nd from 1st, it gives a little buzz. My clutch is fully activated as it doesnt do this on any of the other shifts. I assume I need to get the repair kit from lowrange (https://lowrangeoffroad.com/suzuki/samurai-1986-1995/drivetrain/transmission/1986-1989-suzuki-samurai-shifter-fix-kit.html) Just making sure before i buy it.
Just wanted to share my 1988 samurai with a fairly big list of mods. I call it “ronin” as it’s kind of a lost samurai that doesn’t follow the rules. Toyota 22r Toyota axles, locked, 4.38 gears Dual transfer cases Stretched 12” Accutuned fox 2.0 Hydro assist 36x13.50 irons Warn 8274
Okay this might be a stupid question but if I'm trying to spray some starter fluid do I just spray straight into throttle body or do I need to remove the white cap and spray into there? Thanks
Has anyone here experienced a loss of fuel while driving? I went over small depression in the road and the minor jolt resulted in an immediate loss of response from the gas pedal. Rolled to a stop on the side of the road and while the engine cranks strongly, it fails to start up. The car has a swapped 1.6 16v and has an electric pump installed as a result. I have yet to be able to get back to the car with a multimeter to check voltage at the pump but was curious if I should be looking for any other potential sources of the failure (relay, fuse, etc). TIA!
Edit - sharing the resolution here in case anyone ever experiences something similar: was able to get under the car and check the wiring/pump with a multimeter, had good power at the pump and didn't find any issues with the power wire up to the point it was spliced into the original wire from the donor harness. Had a gas smell when cranking the engine that I was able to smell the first time so figured it had to be some spark issue. Looked at the distributor and then noticed the wire from the ignition coil to the dist had popped off at the coil -_- simply popped it back on and everything worked great. Embarrassing but easy fix, I'll take that any day versus something more complicated or expensive.
Long story short: ended up being a disconnected ignition coil/distributor wire.
Some action in the mountains of Portugal. Im in thr Samurai, my friend is filming in a Hilux
