Super Mario 64, mind blowing at the time. The screen was so high up you couldn't actually play, really. I was young.
I'm looking for some PC port versions for a few specific reasons, each one should probably be a separate version but there can be one for multiple reasons. Here are the specific things I'm looking for
- character mods
- customisibility
- gameplay edit support
- romhacks natively and in widescreen
so, i am currently fighting sky bowser. And i have a hard at the final phase, where the map becomes a star.
And my problem is that i cant throw him far enough so he would touch the bombs, because they are too far away
what do i do ?
My question is whether you are better off emulating the game or playing a PC port? If you are better off playing a PC port, which one? Thank you.
I made a series of polls earlier this year asking about the favorite stars for each course in Super Mario 64. This new poll series will focus on least favorite stars for each course. I'm excluding the 100-coin stars as Reddit doesn't allow more than 6 options. Plus, it would make some of the levels too obvious.
Poll 1 - Bob-omb Battlefield - Mario Wings to the Sky - 61% votes
Poll 2 - Whomp's Fortress - Blast Away the Wall - 34.78% votes
Hello everyone! In B3313 there's some music tracks I would like to have as midis. I'm specially looking for Dire Dire Victory and Star Road tracks. I found some posts with the similar topic but nobody has those tracks. I searched far for extracting tracks by myself but all extraction tools I found doesn't works . If someone has those tracks or has a tool able to extract music tracks from this romhack, I thanks in advance!
4:50.19. No deaths. No falls.
Iāve been replaying m64 for like a day now and I hate the third star in the snow world I want to strangle that penguin and make its baby watch any tips on beating the race?
Let me clarify I appreciate and commend the effort of ROM hackers like the creators of B3313 and Breaking the Barrier. (Even though those aren't ROM hacks that I would personally play. However, I'm increasingly frustrated by how seriously some people still believe in the so-called SM64 iceberg myths. Hereās why this bothers me:
In any genuine gameplay video of Super Mario 64, you wonāt see Wario's oversized head lurking in the DDD room. Thatās because it never existed! The myth started with a clip from E3, and someone later shared a screenshot without much context. Since then, various fabricated images have shown Wario in various formsālow-poly, like a literal apparition, or even resembling Mario's head on the menu screen. If such a "boss" was a thing, it would simply look just the same in every picture/video. This proves that there's no genuine footage of Wario's aparrition. You can even play the game by yourself to see. I'm not making this up. There's evidence literally everywhere!
By 2015, Super Mario 64 had sold over 12 million copies. The idea that each copy could be "personalized" with unique, spooky content is simply impossible, especially with the technology available in the late 90s. Even today, such personalization for mass-produced games would be incredibly challenging. Even if it's a "Personalization AI", take a few moments to think of that, using plain common sense. If Nintendo made such an AI, why wouldn't they release it? Even ChatGPT is inferior to that! Nintendo would not only benefit from such an AI, especially 30 years ago; they would literally have enough money to make their own nation! Even if they won't be initially satisfied on SM64, they would save it for another project. Also, is it just me or does it make literally no sense to make an AI that personalizes copies with spooky content, as the SM franchise is aimed on the whole family? Nintendo would waste billions of dollars (or yen?) that would destroy their reputation! Personally, I believe that when these theories are questioned, supporters often fall back on āpersonalizationā as an excuse, arguing that each copy of the game behaves differently. Yet this argument is baseless and doesnāt hold up when scrutinized.
Among believers, thereās no consistent story. Some claim these elements appear in all game versions, while others say theyāre exclusive to beta builds. Some assert that copies are haunted, while others argue theyāre merely personalized. The lack of any cohesive narrative only shows how easy it is for people to adapt the story to fit their preferences, creating a never-ending cycle of new myths.
Before these myths took off, discussions about Super Mario 64 beta builds were generally straightforward and informative. Now, however, itās hard to discern genuine information from fictionalized accounts. This confusion is much like a scenario similar to the story of the "Boy who cried wolf": if an authentic beta version were ever leaked, itās likely people wouldnāt trust its validity. Personally, I was skeptical even about the 2020 leak (The one that gave us Luigi's lost model), as the line between myth and reality had already blurred by that point. Ironically, some people even discourage fact-checking by tagging posts with "Do Not Research" to avoid scrutiny, knowing that genuine research or even common sense would expose the misinformation.
Creating Super Mario 64 was a groundbreaking endeavor; 3D games were incredibly complex to develop at the time, and the technology was still in its infancy. If the game was made today, glitches such aa BLJs wouldn't be a thing. Miyamoto and his team poured immense effort into overcoming technical challenges, with aspirations of including more courses and even multiplayer features. These iceberg myths downplay that dedication and distract from the actual history and creative struggle involved in developing the game. Also, we all remember how the whole community was mourning when Iwata died. If Miyamoto dies tomorrow and these rumors persist, that would be a disrespect to him and his masterpiece.
In the end, while itās fun to speculate and explore fan theories, we need to distinguish between entertaining fictions and the actual history behind Super Mario 64. Letās celebrate the genuine accomplishments of Nintendo's team rather than obscuring them with myths.
I've always wondered this. Since the 100 coin star spawns slightly above of the coin itself, would it be possible to complete a level in a way where your 100th coin is very high up, and the star spawns in an unreachable spot?
I've got a question concerning the last star in Rainbow Ride, Somewhere Over The Rainbow. Is it reasonable to find this without any external help? I never got to 100% this game as a kid, so I'm catching up now. I haven't spent a lot of time trying to find this star yet, but I'm asking early in case it's a star that has a secret warp or something that's not necessarily rational to find on my own. Thanks!

Next up is Whomp's Fortress
I was following that shit for years. Everytime pannankoek would upload a new video I would stop whatever I was doing and watch it. My math teacher doesn't understand that and gave me detention but I don't freaking care. It was so good
I haven't seen any news about it in a WHILE though...I know they were working on getting passed the bowser pole jump but I haven't seen anything recently...what's going on?
This has been one of the greatest and hardest puzzles to ever be created. Not even the smartest NASA scientists could figure it out. This singular puzzle has taken years of research and work just to complete.

I'm looking at this guide and he showed how you can do a double jump after a kick. After testing it out in my 3ds, I find that I can only make a single jump after I kick. I don't know if that's a skill issue or a console thing. Can someone confirm it for me?

Just started up a brand new emulator and for some reason I get up behind King bo'omb and he's picking me up from behind his back
I've been watching a lot of 64 speedrunning for awhile now. Up to this point I've only played it casually (/at a crappy level lol). I want to try to get better at it in general to learn SR strats and play some fun mods without being completely sucky.
I don't have an actual 64. I was thinking of buying an official and/or hori mini pad (well, a knock off hori because I'm not spending $100 on a controller if I'm not using it to play a game in comp) with an adapter, but I'm wondering if I even want to do that? I understand that people playing for a leaderboard position have basically two controller options with no way to change assignments, since they have to be on an actual 64, but I don't have that restriction.
My concern with using an official 64/hori is that the c buttons are so close to A and B. It seems like you would have to curl your pointer so much at all times. Especially if you're pressing left c button, it's practically on top of A/B.
I don't want to claw with a GC controller because c-stick camera over buttons isn't ideal, but more importantly for me personally I don't like doing important things, like A/B in this case, with clawed fingers. Can't mash as fast, doesn't feel as natural, is more fatiguing. I do it in sunshine because it's pretty much the only option to play that game.
Most stock non-nintendo controllers are automatically out because they lack notches.
So I was thinking to use classic controller pro like this: Jump: B, Punch: Y, C pad: D pad, Pause: L, Crouch: R, Change camera: ZL. I'm already used to that claw because I play MKW like that half the time.
The only other thing I could think of is a hybrid claw like: Jump: B, Punch: Y, Camera left: ZL, Camera right: ZR, Crouch: R, Pause: L, Camera zoom in/out: D pad left/up. I wouldn't have instant access to everything, but it would be more comfortable overall. My left pointer would have to travel between pause, camera zoom. But really camera zoom is rather unimportant anyway, so is it worth clawing just for that?
What do y'all think? Do you have any ideas for alternative ways to control the game? Is using an actual 64 controller better for some reason?
I'm trying to play Mario 64 with a friend using the Megaman mod but the problem is that I need a Mario 64 room and I have no idea how to do it... could any good soul teach me?
