Who is control of Taqadum?

Interesting comment from Salah Manaa. If the largest political party in Taqadum has no influence in Taqadum? Who is this group controlling Taqadum?

And is Hamdook unable to overrule them? Is this democratic ?

Elnour Eshag Adam, The Sudani Who Captured Sweden's Hearts

Hey everyone.

Recently, I found myself deep in a reddit rabbit hole and stumbled upon a delightful video featuring a Sudanese man named Elnour. This video, showcasing his charming and humorous take on the weather, went viral in Sweden about 9 years ago. It truly brightened my day, and I felt compelled to share this heartwarming discovery with all of you.

As we navigate the current chaotic times in our country, I can't help but wonder about his well-being and whereabouts. If anyone is familiar with the name or if your internet stalking skills far outshine mine, please do share any updates.

I sincerely hope that he is thriving wherever he may be.

Sudan war update?

What are the war's updates from the beginning to the present? What plans does the Sudanese army have and what is it doing? Any news on when this war will end? I can't believe the battle has been going on for a year already!

I didn't think the conflict would last this long!

Are Sudanese generally respected in the Arab world?

I'm not Sudanese, but I've been trying to understand the dynamics in the MENA region.

In LATAM for example, where I have cultural ties to, Dominicans are like the Sudanese of the Latino world in the sense that they have the highest % of Afro-descended people (minus Brazil), and in the Latino community, Dominicans are generally regarded positively and their music and culture is celebrated by other Latinos who you could say are more "white".

I know there's no quantifiable way to measure this question, but I was interested to know how Sudanese are viewed by other Arabs in the Arab world considering they are the most black out of all the Arabs.

Flying from Port Sudan to Rwanda

Hey everyone. I'm planning on going to Rwanda soon, and I'd prefer to travel there by plane. I looked for airlines that do tickets from Port Sudan to Kigali, and could only find Egyptair. They seem fine, but I've never flown by myself before and I don't know if there is anything I'm not noticing that I might get screwed by. Did any of you fly with them before. Are there any more airlines that go there? I also want to ask for general advice on the Port Sudan airport experience if any of you have been through it (I don't live near Port Sudan).

Any help will be appreciated.

Nubian Language Society

Really cool page dedicated to the preservation and education of Nubian languages of all varieties. They have undertaken the goal to complete various programmes for all currently spoken Nubian languages. There's some especially good resources in there for Nobiin.

A Nobiin dictionary project is underway and will be published as free-access on the website. Make sure to bookmark this.

Does anyone have a pdf copy of the Funj Chronicle and The Heroic Age in Sinnār? It's out of print and I can't seem to get my hands on any available copy.

Pour yourself some shai and lean back in that angareb, because rule 2 is suspended, so you can express your opinions, promote your art, talk about your personal lives, shitpost, complain, etc. even if it has nothing to do with Sudan or the sub. Or do nothing at all. على كيفك يا زول

Did you participate in الرحمتات as a kid?

I remember doing this in Atbara way back in the day. It's on the last Thursday of Ramadan (today). We would go round the neighborhood clanking on pots and chanting songs. Then we'd get served food from random houses. Things like balila and fatta and whatnot.

I haven't been back for Ramadan in years.... Do people still do this? Is it just in River Nile or do they do it in other states? (I don't think I've seen it in Khartoum).

My opinions on various factors of Sudan (lots of content) (agree/disagree or have thoughts) please share as I love open discussion.

I apologize for any spelling mistakes as I’m typing from my phone. First.. full disclosure; I’m an Eritrean living in Canada.. but I follow politics particularly in the horn and M. East.

Causes of the current civil war.

In my opinion this war started because both the RSF and the SAF (as well as their benefactors) couldn’t agree about how to split the resources of Sudan.. in the end. Both sides assumed an easy victory. As well as because no side wanted democracy.

I also believe most in the civilian council never actually had an interest in democracy.

My point regarding the civilian council stems from the fact that the council frequently fractured over petty issues and accepted UAE money and sided with the RSF.

In a nation as diverse as Sudan. It’s impossible to agree on every issue. Frankly you’ll see disagreements on many issues for a nation as diverse as Sudan. But in my opinion, many in the civilian council just wanted power and influence. A chance to dip their beek in the corruption and money.

Had the civilian council wanted democracy. There is no reason why they couldn’t come together and say “we don’t agree on everything but our goal is to facilitate a process of having a transitional constitution that leads to elections”

Had the civilian council done this and engaged the army about it… we could’ve seen 2 options

A: army and transitional council work together B: army/RSF pressure civilian council which in turn is isolated from the international community.

A few people I’ve spoken too who were involved internationally wise would say “we had to talk to the army/Rsf because there was zero coordination from the civilians”. Or that “some civilian groups are with the army and some are with the Rsf so why bother talking to the civilians”.

Now don’t get me wrong. The army and the RSF are the ones who started this war. But the civilian groups massively messed up and missed the opportunity for Sudan. When u mess up a transition era u set a country back 30 years.

Another mistake was the international community engaging with both the RSF and SAF. Like how on earth are you gunna get a peaceful transition when your engaging two separate military structures. Makes no sense.

I hope this is a lesson Africans will learn.

The lesson being that you don’t need to have a full agreement in a civilian transitional council. Organize the council and make everyone agree that decisions are

A: democratic. And B: you can’t leave the transitional council.

Lastly. Remember this happened under a trump era. As someone who studies international relations. Had literally any other administration been in office in the United States… we would’ve seen Sudan isolated from the international community until elections were held. But because trump wanted another signature in the Abraham accords . He didn’t care

A question to add to this discussion.. was war going to come no matter what? I’d say yes. Burhan and/or hemetti literally had no interest in a democracy. I saw this in day one.

If you read to this point. Thanks. If you disagree/ agree or have thoughts. Please share
