I am turning 40 and a concern I have is prostate health as I have family members who had to get surgery due to prostate growing too big. I read somewhere that the more bodyweight you gain the more the prostate grows, but not sure if this is true and if it applies to lifters. What I mean is, I heard that obesity has a direct effect on prostate growth. I was not sure if for example a football player who has a higher than normal Body Mass Index (due to mostly muscle) would be at risk for prostate growth?
I also don't have a very ripped body like a bodyuilder. I have your typical strongman/powerlifter build, muscle with a little bit of a belly showing (picture eddie hall before he cut down for MMA). Even though Eddie Hall had a belly before he didnt look obsese, I know many nfl football players have a build like him on the front D or offense line. I would guess my body fat percentage is about 25% to 30%.
My only concern is if the prostate is at risk of growing too much if I continue to pack and muscle over the long run, even if some fat comes up with it too.
I know there is a clear difference between a couch potato who gains weight purely on fat vs an athlete such as powerlifter or strongman that gains bodyweight from training.
Hi I'm 20 years old 190 lbs 6"5. I want to try to become a strongman however I haven't really lifted anything heavy since mid September during my last workout when I developed moderate trigger thumb due to a stupid mistake. I'm not exactly poor but i can't really afford a trainer for a workout (my gf is a former dietician so I have that pretty much covered.)
What workouts would you recommend to match the following daily diet? (I have also no logs for log rolls) I do try to run for cardio. Any advice is appreciated God bless.
Calories 3000 Fat 142g Protein 320g Carbs 160g
Long story short, I've been a 'perma-bulker' for the past couple of years, and I've let my bodyfat creep up to 20%… Okay fine, 22-23%. My training so far is standard heavy lifting on the compound lifts 3-4x per week and I've noticed that it's not been really effective to lose fat (yes, I've made the necessary diet changes).
Have others been able to get down to 12-15% bodyfat with just lifting or is cardio necessary (either low intensity like walking or some sort of high intensity stuff)? If it's necessary, what would be a good starting point in terms of type, frequency, duration, etc? Would appreciate insights from weight class strongmen in particular.
I got an Inzer Leviathan Pro suit to use for deadlifting, and tried it on yesterday (didn’t get to do any lifting in it yet). It has adjustable lacing on the sides to achieve extra tightness or to loosen it up.
My questions, since I haven’t ever used a canvas suit, and last used a single ply suit back in high school a decade and a half ago, is with these really rigid and really tight suits, how do you best get into position? I remember to use the suits power, I need a vertical shin, but man I just can’t get down there while keeping position.
Also, With adjustable suits, where do you set the tightness? With my old suit there was no customization so “unbearably tight” was one size fits all. With this one, I can take some of the tightness out but I don’t want to cost the suit it’s power in the process.
Looking for a coach to help me prepare for a competition coming up. Any recommendations are much appreciated!
Hi all.
I'm curious about making a DIY Dinnie stone as a gift for my coach. I have worked with stone before but I'm curious if anyone has done this before.
I think I'd need a solid chonk of granite but I'm curious if anyone would know about what kind of fasteners to use?
I don't think Rock Bolts would do a bad job but I'd be worried about shock loading breaking them over time. I could forge some iron rings and anchor hoops but I'm not sure if anyone has advice.Has anyone ever made anything like this?
Newbie here. Been messing around with strongman for about nine months. Prior to that I had basically never set foot in a gym. In that time I’ve gone from having never deadlifted to knocking on 405’s door, which for me at least is pretty fucking cool.
Right now I’m not in a position to hire a trainer, though it’s a goal eventually. In the meantime, I’m kind of just winging it. I was using Thor’s Power for a bit, but that’s also pretty rigid. I started using that as a sort of template instead, doing a four day program based around squat, press, deadlift, and bench press, with some accessories thrown in per day. But it still feels a bit aimless, and also, I don’t do as much event training as I’d like, despite having access to stones, frames, logs, etc.
So my question is, does anyone have any tips for putting together a routine? Or programs they’d recommend? Or specific exercises? Not asking anyone to just build me a routine, more just looking to be pointed in the right direction, please!
This is not an anti dumbbell post as I use dumbbells a lot for workouts in addition to my barbell movements. For example dumbbells are very effective in exercises such as dumbbell farmers carries. This post is in regards to "pressing" movements via a bench set up. So I am talking dumbbell flat bench, incline press, seated shoulder press, anything with an adjustable bench used for pressing.
In most of my training I use barbell bench press variations from flat all the way up to shoulder press. I do close grip, normal grip, flat, incline, high incline, seated shoulder press. I pretty much do everything with a barbell heavy with low reps a majority of the time. I rarely ever do any dumbbell pressing movements on a bench.
The reasons I avoid dumbbells for pressing movements is:
There is even risk of injury if your going to heavy because now only one arm is trying hard to stabilize the dumbbell, I've heard with a barbell its more stable. I remember a few times I did heavy shoulder presses seated with dumbbells and I felt my shoulder snap a few times, and that never happened with barbells.
What do you think? is dumbbell pressing absolutely necessary? Am I missing something, or are my points valid, that its a waste of time for strongman or powerlifting purposes. I do both strongman and powerlifting style training.

Any tips or exercises for increasing sandbag carry? Having trouble getting 250lb sandbag off the ground.
Getting back at it today and was wondering if anyone had a deadlift focused strongman program?
Hey guys, I am the host of China's Strongest and competitor myself - you may have seen me in a few of Martins Licis videos! (Shoutout to Romark).
On November 16 & 17th we will be hosting the Final competition of the [LIFT ON Strongman] China Strongman Series.
We have put an exhausting amount of effort in growing the sport across China, and all of Asia. We have hosted competitions in Shenzhen, Chengdu, Guangzhou, and Beijing with our small team, shipping our self-made equipment all across China with the goal of seeing more Chinese athletes compete on the world stage, such as OSG, Rogue, and WSM (one day, but not any time soon, probably.)
It's been awesome to see the sport grow from essentially an unknown, to the delivery riders, and random people knowing all about picking up heavy rocks. There will no doubt be a wave of Chinese (Asian) Strongman athletes storming the u80 and u90 categories in a few years - and the very cool thing to watch is how dedicated they are, and without having strongman coaches, their varied approaches to different lifts. Have you ever seen anyone squat jerk a log at 120kg like Luxiaojun? I have. It's wild.
Anyways, we're very excited here for our finals, and tuning in would mean a lot.
If you guys are interested in checking out what China is doing and what the strongman scene looks like in Asia, please check out our livestream on youtube on the 16th and 17th.
For people who have made there own Atlas stone or sealed some, what did you use for sealer? A few of the gyms larger stones are unsealed and would definitely be more enjoyable to lift if they were.
How do y’all keep this from happening? My low back pinches and gives me an extremely sharp pain whenever I do any sort of barbell row. I can deadlift just fine, no issues, but the rows screw up my low back. I’ve heard that rows are a crucial exercise to do for your back and to be able to do axle cleans and other lifts, how true is this?
(I’m 16 btw)
(Sorry for no form video, I’ll try to remember to get one next time I’m in the gym)
I had a question for all of the guys and gals in here that have competed before: What are some things that you did/do to help boost your recovery after a comp? I competed little over a week ago and overall I’m feeling better but still a little beat up. Took a few days off lifting and then a few easy/light days to get back into it. Loss of appetite on my days off made it real hard to actually eat. Now I’m back on a normal split and lifting decent numbers but still much weaker and getting sore as hell every few days. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Gotta travel for work next week and I’ll be near the River Ranch, FL area. Any strongman gyms near there?
Wanted to shout out Paul Anderson, one of my all time favorite lifters. IMO in the top 2 (with Mark Henry) for strongest natural ever and still in the conversation for strongest ever, period. Some of his achievements include:
- Squat 929 lb (421.4 kg), no belt, no wraps with more in the tank
- Bench press 575 lb (260.8 kg) touch and go
- Raw deadlift 750 lb (340.2 kg) face value, done at the same event as the above mentioned squat which had a face value of 905 lb (410.5 kg).
- Supposedly deadlifted 1000 lb (453.6 kg) with lifting hooks
- Strict overhead press 465 lb (210.9 kg) off squat rack
- Push press 500 lb (226.8 kg)
- No-contact clean and PRESS 440 lb (199.6 kg) (claimed 485 lb/220 kg in training)
- No-contact snatch 350 lb (158.8 kg) (claimed 375 lb/170 kg in training)
Plus various insane old-time strongman feats, hip lifts, back lifts, and so on. Squatted 910 lbs in training at age 22; stopped competing internationally at age 24 to turn professional. Probably never reached his full potential due to heavy travel demands to support his youth home. Nearly died as a child from Bright's disease (kidney disorder); complications from kidney issues eventually killed him in 1994 at age 61.
idk previous reps felt pretty smooth, but I couldn't finish the third one
First time I was scratching on 500 my son was born and I stopped for about a year. Then I was close to 500 again and I got hurt by being dumb and not resting enough (3 months ago). Does anything stick out in my form now that I have enough time to train consistently? And I’m not hurt anymore.
This video is 455 my estimated max is about 475. This moved slowly because I had just done axle pulls and front squats.
Did 190kg for 12 after this
I compete at osg in december for worlds
Hey yall, so I just finished a 6 month training cycle that led up to a strongman and a half marathon in the same week. It was fun, it also really sucked with a lot of burnout. I'll definitely stagger events in the future but it was a fun experience. All that being said I got asked to participate in a 5k in a months time and I went right into training for it and my body just said NO. Super sore. I gave it a couple days and then I nearly pulled a hamstring. I guess 33 years old is a little different than 18.
Long story short, I guess I pushed myself to the edge of what I'm able to do. How do yall like to recover and how long do yall take off after your events? I worry about losing my gains but obviously I'm trying to not get injured.
I’ve noticed with this long bulk I’ve been on that my digestion has been lacking and I’ve been rather constipated. What do y’all take or do to help with this, and is it a normal issue to have?
Is anybody interested in a Fantasy League for the 2025 Strongman season? I've never heard of one being done before but I think I could put something together all through an Excel sheet if there's interest.
If you've played Fantasy Football or Baseball etc before, then I'm sure you can follow along. Maybe 8 or so people, 5-8 rounds, points league style with categories such as Major competition podiums, event wins, WRs, etc. We'd establish everything ahead of time and as the season runs, just tally up after every competition.
Curious what people think, or if it's already being done somewhere.
