The name of this subreddit is a play on Google's old company motto, "Don't be evil," and is meant to convey the fact that Google and other tech companies have, in the opinion of many, continually abused their powers as gatekeepers of communications and data.

Many feel that these companies are not only a threat to privacy, but have also morphed into echochambers lead by people who have taken it upon themselves to use the resources and influence of their companies to underhandedly stifle the marketplace of ideas and further their own agendas.
