Seeing the boys fight on stage...

So I'm 40. Saw sTp many times through out the years. May 97 was my first show in Pensacola. It was fantastic. Saw them at the Tabernacle in 2000, that October in Pensacola again, Birmingham 2002, many times during the No.4/Shangri period. Which was their best era live imho..BUT when they reunited in 2008 I saw them in Atlanta in August of that year. There was alot of wondering if the show would even take place cause Scott had no showed the night before in Tampa I believe. He did show up btw and the show was going great until they got to STT. Scott usually grabs the megaphone and does the "Here I come, I come, I come" deal at every show I'd been to prior to that but the band just went into the song. Scott got pissed and Flipped off Kretz. Changed the words to "you wouldn't want to see him in a dress" pointing at Kretz. Dean and Robert just looked at each other like oh boy. They had a heated exchange at the end. After STT was over they did Piece of Pie and Scott ripped his shirt off and gave a very passionate, almost pissed performance of the song. It was actually great. It was a great show. Just kinda wild to watch it happen in person. There's actually video of it on YT btw if you search it out

Why didn’t Scott Weiland do any major film roles as an actor?

This is something I’ve always wondered. Weiland was such a talented and versatile artist. Obviously his identity is as a musician. But, I’m surprised that he never had any major roles in movies? Many artists from his generation like Henry Rollins, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie and others have taken acting roles. But, Weiland didn’t.

When he was in bad debt toward the end, I wonder if he ever had his agent reach out to movie producers to see if they would want to cast him. He would have been a hell of an actor. I could imagine him having done all kinds of interesting roles.

Even earlier in his career, it seems like acting could have been a route for him. Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this didn’t occur?

STP as opposed to “The Big Four”

Hey there, gen z/millenial cusp here. I got into AiC when I was in my early high school years, but I really got into grunge in 2022-2023. I started with more AiC, then Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden. I listened to other grunge bands outside of them too- Gruntruck, Hole, TAD, Melvins, etc. I love the 90s sound. It is irreplaceable to me.

I got into STP far later than I should’ve. I started with Core late last year, and for two months straight that was the only album I listened to. I was blown away by the consistency and how good it was, especially for a debut album. From there I moved onto Purple, Tiny Music, No. 4, and SLDD. I haven’t listened to their discography past that, but depending on my mood, Tiny Music or Purple is my favorite.

With all of these albums, I went through the same routine as I did with Core as I moved through their discography. I only listened to those albums on the daily. To and from work, while working out/running, if I needed background music/noise for anything.

My point here is that after listening to all of “The Big Four’s” discography extensively over time, I’d have to say STP has the most consistently good albums out of all of them from start to finish, if we’re just talking about their first four albums.

Nirvana has Bleach, which starts off strong but the B-Sides of Bleach have always been considered their weakest point imo.

Soundgarden’s first album I never really got into, and their second album I like quite a bit, but there are still some points where I just wish I was listening to BMF or Superunknown.

AiC’s first album is great but is arguably teetering the line of being an 80s album in terms of sound. I’d say AiC really found their “sound” with Sap, JoF, and Dirt.

Pearl Jam in my opinion is closest to STP consistency-wise. People say they suck after their first three albums, but I’d disagree. PJ is only behind STP in terms of quality by a hair to me. No Code and Yield are two incredibly creative albums and everything after that is still PJ to me that I have come to know and love.

That all being said, Core, Purple, Tiny Music, and No. 4 suffer from none of the issues aforementioned. None of the albums overstay their welcome. The way the tracks are listed is perfect. “Crackerman” kicks in on Core at a time where it gets you pumped up as hell, and then closes out with the 8 minute ballad of “Where the River Goes.”

Purple is just brilliant. Scotts vocals in this album are unmatched to me and the lyrics are so somber and beautiful. Every track on this album is perfect to me.

The reason why I feel Tiny Music is my favorite is because after an album like Purple, I don’t know how STP managed to make such an experimental/creative album that works so well. It’s definitely not what their first two albums were, but I think that’s what makes it my favorite-they stayed STP while progressing their sound and still being fucking phenomenal. Paper Heart, Lady Picture Show, Big Bang Baby, I mean, all of these sounds have that “dreamy” sound to them with this splash of rock. I haven’t found an album that is as much of a cohesive piece as “Tiny Music” is, because it does what an album does best in my opinion-it takes you away to be in tune with what it’s supposed to represent. It feels like a concept album to me in a way, because of how everything ebbs and flows into each other so seamlessly.

No. 4 has one of the best opening tracks of any album, ever. Down, Atlanta, Sour Girl, Sex & Violence, every track on here feels like STP. I adore this album and I only listened to SLDD a handful of times, but I feel that album may be more of a “grower” than a “shower” for me.

So yeah, I don’t really have a huge point here except that STP is fucking sick, and I actually don’t understand how there are people out there that don’t like them. I understand they’re a pretty well known group, but I feel as though they deserve more. I’d like to imagine if Scott hadn’t passed that he and Eddie Vedder would be at similar levels of fame, but who knows.

Thanks for reading!

Note: there are some grammatical errors and typos, but I’m not sure why I’m unable to go back and edit. 😭

I can’t believe No. 4 is 25

Title says it all,

Most people talk the first two, maybe three records as being classic but No. 4 is an absolute beast in my opinion.

The No. 4 era in general is my favourite of the band. My favourite vocal performances from Scott and the band was on absolute fire live.

Probably their heaviest record too even though it has Sour Girl, I Got You and Atlanta. Still, those softer songs don’t feel out of place. The whole thing flows quite nicely.

Stone Temple Pilots guitar covers

Hello everyone,

I’m new to the group and a huge fan of Stone Temple Pilots from Romania. I wanted to share a YouTube channel that I’ve been really enjoying—it features fantastic STP guitar covers and tutorials. The videos break down the songs in a very clear way, and you can really see the jazz influences that inspired some of their guitar work. It’s been super helpful for me, and I think you’ll appreciate it too!

One of the songs was particularly challenging for me was About a Fool, and I’m so glad I found this channel. I’ve learned a lot of cool chords that have really helped me grow as a guitarist, and I feel like a better player because of it.

If there are any guitarists who are struggling and want to learn STP songs, I think you’ll find this channel really helpful! I’m looking forward to hearing what you think!

Edit: the most harder part for me was the section when Scott sings "He's drowning on his own"

Giving away free ticket to Calgary show Saturday

Hi all,

I’m f’ing sick and can’t go to the Calgary Halloween show this Saturday. FML. Soooooo upset I can’t go. I’ve been wanting to see my beloved band for 30 years. 😢

So I have one ticket on TM I can transfer to someone if they’d like to go. Please, only ask if you can go. I really don’t want the ticket to go to waste. Also, the ticket is not resellable.

Cheers.

I love stp

I personally discovered stp through seeing the purple cover art and wanting to see the music behind it; and it was really great! Then I told my therapist about it and she showed me a lot of the songs and mostly the session was just that, but I have to say that was one of my favorite sessions ever. I just wanted to share how I found them, and if I’m being honest some of their songs make me cry from just hearing them, cause I genuinely do believe they’re one of the most special bands to me.

I know I’m just a teenager and like, there’s a lot of music out there, but I’m really glad I found these guys :)

Does another song exist that's as beautiful and emotional as Atlanta?

Only 2 that come close are AIC sludge factory unplugged and Chris Cornell nothing compares 2 u.

Purple or Core?

To me, both of these albums are flawless (even though purple has more ‘hits’) so if I had to pick a favourite one it would depend on the mood. Right now my favourite would be Core because nothing gets me hyped up as much as the opening track dead and bloated and crackerman!!

I felt like them at the time calling it "Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington"...it's huge. It's like Chester saying "I'm not sitting on Scott's spot. Not even now, not ever".

Without Chester openly saying it and then kind of disrespecting the rest of the band. Their anger at the time was valid, and it didn't need Chester going "oh but my hero Scott" in their faces.

But then if you pay attention, you see Chester doing these little things like setting himself apart from the band in the title or painting his hair violet pink.

Chester never let go of anyone in his life ever. I don't think it was even the case with Scott.

VIP Merchandise?

Has anyone who had the VIP package for the Jubilee tour received their VIP merchandise in the mail yet, or received any updates on the status? It's been a month and a half and still no word.

Thanks
