Pan Info
The steel pan is the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago, where "Panorama" occurs, a national competition of steel bands held on a yearly basis.
A good place to start is just listening to Pan in A Minor, a Panorama classic that just about every pan player knows.
There are several groups/artists that utilize pan, whether in a traditional steel band or a small combo
Along with countless others.
Have fun, listen, and enjoy this beautiful instrument.

I've wanted to play hopes and dreams from Undertale for a while but I cant find anything for sheet music besides piano and I wanted to know if anyone knows how to translate notes or has the sheet music.
Hi, I've always wanted to learn how to play the steel pan but living in New Zealand it's not something I can easily buy over here but I'm coming to the US on holiday in September and would like to purchase one to take home. I'll be in California and Nevada but shipping one to a US address is no problem. Can anyone recommend a company online that can hook me up with a beginner pan or something that I can learn on and take back to NZ with me. Don't worry about the last bit, I'll get it back home!
Thanks!

From the late 1950's into the 1960's, many steel bands in Trinidad began arranging European music and other foreign repertoire in a calypso style. These arrangements became known as "bomb tunes," and the style was prevalently used for Carnival music.
As a passion project, I arranged a steel band "bomb tune" for my final performance with Oakland University's Pan Jumbies. I chose to arrange (Nothing but) Flowers by Talking Heads because I owe a lot of my musical journey to the creative minds in that band. This is the song that made something in my brain click, and I began to listen to music with more intent.
I can easily say that without the influence of Talking Heads' music, I wouldn't have accomplished all that I have in the past few years. I began to raise more questions, and approached music with an explorative mind. This journey has taken me to Ghana and St. Lucia, and I am planning on studying abroad again this summer to wrap up a massive research project.
In the meantime, I made this arrangement a priority. I created this arrangement and am uploading the video to give thanks to everybody that made such wonderful, inspiring music. Sincerely, thank you to all who were involved, from the band members and production team to the fans that supported the music during its time.
I have not, and will not make any kind of money off of this project or video. I simply want to give thanks to one of my biggest influences. My hope is that somebody may see this video, and become inspired to embark on their own artistic journey.
Hi all!
I own a tenor/lead pan that I bought about two years ago. I am gigging more and more with it and still use the hanger loops it originally came with. They look fine but I would like to have backups readily on hand.
Where do you buy yours from? I am based in the US.
I love substituting pan anywhere there is a synthesizer. This is Scarface's 1994 "I Seen a Man Die"
Got new music available to stream or purchase? Want to get new members to join your band or get more gigs? This is the place to do it.
This is the place to talk about anything and everything steel pan related or not.
Hi all,
I just rekindled, HARDDD, my love for steelpan music… specifically steelband music. Can someone point me to a list of songs that were composed with steel and in mind? That is, no lyrics exist for the songs.
I know that I’m asking this question badly, but I remember when my dad was alive he would play some of these songs for me and made a big deal that this was made only for pan where no lyrics exists… I wish that I could go back in time and write down the name of all of those songs that he played.
Anything would be greatly appreciated.
Hey guys, just preparing for my junior recital as a percussion undergrad at University of North Alabama. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a cool steel pan solo piece I could add. Something pretty advanced, but fun. Thanks!!
Hello, all! I joined my school's beginning steel pan band a few months ago, but I am loving it more than anything. I play triples, and it's the coolest thing ever. In fact, I'm skipping intermediate band and going straight to Advanced next year. But one thing I was wondering was if anyone here knew any good transcribing website. I've been trying to learn a pop song I like on my triples recently, but it's hard to do it from ear, and I can't find any good websites that don't cost a lot of money that I don't have. Thank you so much!
I just fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine and purchased my own lead pan. Does anyone have suggestions of publishing companies that sell lead solo sheet music? So far Boxfish and Maumau Music seem promising, but I'm always looking for more ideas! Thanks!
Hello everyone,
This Saturday is going to be the 2024 Steelband Panorama Finals: LARGE Conventional Steel Orchestras - Trinidad. Someone asked here how to stream the finals. If you live in Trinidad and Tobago, and you don’t want to or can’t go, you can go to the TTT Limited website https://news.tttlimited.com and watch the stream there.
If you live outside of Trinidad and Tobago and you want to stream Panorama, you have to go to https://whensteeltalks.ning.com/events/2024-steelband-panorama-finals-large-conventional-steel-orchestra and select a radio station. TTT Limited will not stream the finals for anyone living outside of Trinidad and Tobago due to copyright rules and there were issues with other people streaming the finals when I tried to watch it last year.
If you would like to watch the performances and you outside of Trinidad and Tobago, they performances will be uploaded to YouTube either the next day or a few days after.
I’m just curious if anyone has any tips for the best way to stream Panorama Finals this weekend. I do have a VPN so if it’s region restricted that shouldn’t be an issue. Thanks!
I am IN LOVE with "Gimme Everyting" this year (and a few of the other big tunes) - but what are YOUR favorite songs from this season?
Hi all, I just got my Jumby Jam pan, and am excited to start learning and playing. Where can I find some beginner sheet music to practice with for it?
Thanks!
My son, 11 years old, just got a steel pan for Christmas yesterday. It's a Jumbie Jam and I must say, although it has one octave, it's a very nice quality of sound. Knowing it's one octave, I'm trying to find some sheet music that also includes the note letter, for him to better play. Can anyone point me in the right direction.
I have really tried Googling and most everything that comes up is Jumbie's website and they want $15-$25 per book.
To those who celebrate Christmas, I wish you a merry/happy Christmas to you and your family. May it be filled with joy, happiness and lots of music.
I feel that a lot of people who are dedicated to the steel pan who have music out don’t get much attention. People like Andy Narell and Jeff Narell are great and there are the great carnival “orchestras”, I would not call them orchestras in the traditional sense.
