I like the idea of being a road comic. I don't mind the hotels and the driving and the flying and the new faces, I voluntarily lived that way before I began comedy. Why do people talk down on the idea of being a road comic as if it's draining and they dread it? It seems like the goal for me.
I'm roughly 2 years in and perform anywhere from 3-10 times a week depending on my energy/confidence/schedule.
I'll have weeks where I kill during every show, followed by weeks where it seems like I can't get a laugh to save my life. When I perform in front of an actual audience, I do well. The open mics in front of other comedians is what messes with my confidence sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't get to me- but sometimes it does.
There's certain comedians I wish I didn't have to be around, some of them don't like me for whatever reason. Maybe it's my material or my face, I'm not sure, but I can certainly feel tension with some of them. I understand its competitive with some people but the shitty attitudes of some people get under my skin.
Anyway, I don't like that I'm too dependent on the crowd's response.
If I bomb, I feel like "what the hell am I doing with my life," and when I kill, I feel like "I was made to do this"
Also, I may sound corny but I wish there was a little more unity with some comedians. I hear comedians cutting other comedians down behind each others backs every single night and it's off-putting to me. It feels like they're playing a game of chess to be liked more than the other person in order to get ahead instead of just being funny.
I heard the host of an open mic very recently talk shit about all the performers in the hallway (God, some of these guys are fucking stupid, it gets worse and worse every week, etc.).. I wanted to say, "hey, we all listened to you're set, you're not funny enough to be shitting on open micers- at a mic YOU host, nonetheless."
After reading what I typed above, it feels like I should've written this in a journal instead of reddit but I want others to chime in with whatever they feel like responding to or their experience.

He says this woke stuff has gone too far, we've got a male queen now. Guessing it is something to do with royalty but what does this joke mean?
