I am a college student from Glynn County writing a paper on the environmental impact of our industry. I made a survey to gauge the local populations perspective on the issue. The survey is very short, only 5 questions. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfLimY5b1j741wVrpusr0HLMQkVF0pCz-U4Uv0pypmeTxrV5w/viewform?usp=sf_link
Coming down to interview at Sea Island. Where are good breakfast places in town? Thanks!
Just browsing a real estate app. I always wondered about Georgia beaches. I came across st Simon island. I googled to see what it looks like. It looks beautiful. Really beautiful. But for a place that nice, I can’t figure out why there are SO many homes for sale? This seems like a lot?
Hi All!
I am going to be down in SSI this weekend and was wondering if there were some fun and cheap-ish public courses in the area? I am going with several friends whom are "dabblers" in golf, so anything over $30 isn't going to fly with them.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Can anyone recommend pet friendly beaches on St. Simons Island? Found this blog post with some good information. Wondering if there are any other lists floating around: https://www.goldenisles.com/blog/post/4-pet-friendly-activities-golden-isles/
I just arrived at St Simmons Island. What's good to eat around here?
Thanks! I'll be visiting.
Every year for many years now we have spent NYE and NYD with friends - usually at a lake house near Atlanta (we are all Atlantans). We've always had a kitchen and cooked traditional NYD meal - greens, cornbread, black eyed peas, ham, etc. This year we sprung for going to Jekyll Island together but we're all staying at (different) hotels and I just realized that we won't have a kitchen nor a way to make our usual meal. Does anyone know where can we go to find a traditional New Years meal in the area? Doesn't have to be fancy or on Jekyll - just not too far so that the families with young kids can make it. Would even consider a private catered event but would have to include venue.
TIA!!
Given the destruction from Irma, I was wondering if it still makes sense to go through with a trip to the Golden Isles the weekend of the 22nd of Sept? As I understand it some of the islands still are limited access and suffered significant damage, flooding, and may not have power.
While we aren't arriving for more than a week still, it seems like the communities are probably going to be focused on recovery and it may not be the best time to come for a vacation. On the flip side, assuming we're a) not getting in the way of recovery and b) can enjoy a comfortable stay, I imagine it's beneficial to show up and help the local economy continue to operate.
Appreciate any thoughts and hope any who read this are doing well in the storm's aftermath.
Yesterday, 8-16-17 my girlfriend and I found an 8GB SD card at Jekyll Island's Driftwood Beach with pictures of collectable coins and family photos on it. If you're the owner of the SD card contact me and we'll try to get it to you, or at the very least get the pictures sent to you.
Hi.
hey ya'll. My wife and I are potentially moving to the island and were wondering if anybody could give us some tips on the area. We've been living in Savannah for the past five years and really enjoy the parks, people, restaurants, etc. are there any places that we should avoid? We like being downtown and have a dog although I'm not opposed to being in the burbs, if there are any there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Hey all, my mother moved to st. Simons last Friday. She is really excited since we used to vacation there all growing up when her father was still alive. Anyways, the home she bought came with a golf cart. I know they are legal down there but a had a few questions.
Registration/tax annually?
Can we drive it at night (does have headlights and taillights)?
Can I park that bad boy in regular parking spots at the store?
Who is the go to mechanic down there that won't take her to the house if she needs something fixed on it.
Anything else I may need to know regarding golf carts on the island?
Hello all,
I am planning to come to St Simons Island for the long weekend and I love beaches that are not that "Touristy" so as to speak. This will be my first trip while in the U.S and it might be 2 or 4 of us. Any help in places to stay which are near the beach and are in the cheaper category would be very helpful.
Also, any tips on things to do and beaches to visit would be great help. Thanks in advance.
Looking for something that has to be kid friendly in the St Simons/ Brunswick area. I'd need at least 2 bedrooms. Any places I should look into or definitely avoid? Much Thanks in advance
Pennsylvania couple will be meeting up with some friends from the Atlanta area. We'll be staying in St. Simons for a week, and plan to visit Jekyll, Sea Island, Brunswick, and maybe wander as far a Savannah before the week is done. Dislike chains, like places with local color, local bars, (dives ok), homey restaurants. Gullah cuisine, music, and crafts. Also commercial and sport fishing docks. Remote wildlife sanctuaries, flea markets, historical sites. Been to area before visited Ft. Frederica, Jekyll Island Club, Cloisters, the lighthouse museum. That's why we are looking off the beaten path now. Thanks for sharing your local knowledge.
So we're about to sell our house and move to St. Simons. I'm early 40's, wife is late 30's and our 2 year old daughter. We love the area. I'm concerned because every time we've spoken to a local at length the question "What church are you planning to attend" or a similar question comes up. I'm beginning to get the feeling I'm going to have a hard time fitting in. Am I making a mistake?
So as the title says, I am "moving" to the area temporarily (January - April) and I am in the process of finding an apartment to rent. I am not from the area, so I am trying to gauge how busy the island is during the winter months. Is it feasible to find an affordable place to rent on the island, assuming perhaps that all the tourists have gone away? Should I just look on Craigslist or is there something that locals use? Thanks for any info!
Hey I really don't know who all is here and who all is around me but I live by SSI elementary on first. Come party. PM me for an address
