I have been using the same script to scrape the website for a while now, but recently I have been getting a HTTP 403 error (meaning getting blocked from scraping). Did they add more strict policies recently?
I am trying to find how much WAR the Seattle Mariners accrued at 2B in 2024 and which players contributed to that. However, I also want to know how much WAR each player accumulated exclusively at 2B and no other position. I attempted to run a stathead query for this but can’t quite nail it down, this was the result I got.
This result only shows which players played 2B for the 2024 Mariners and each of their respective season stats, however it does not have them narrowed down to exclusively their playing time at 2B.
Am I missing something very obvious within my criteria? Is what I’m asking for even possible through Stathead/Bref?
Inspired by my doomed choice of >!Warren Spahn!< for ATL/200K today -- even though he led the league four consecutive seasons, he maxed out at 191 in 1950.
Would love to see who people are guessing wrong when I check the summary after completing my daily grid. I think it'd be fun speculating why people are landing on a particular guess: Maybe people assume someone like Derek Jeter must have won an MVP? Maybe you correctly remember someone wearing a certain uniform but it was in a spring training game and they never made the club (like I did once with Mike Yastrzemski for a BAL/SF square)? Maybe it's just a tough team combination and people are spamming Octavio Dotel or Edwin Jackson hoping to get lucky?
Anyway I think this would add a fun new wrinkle to my daily grid ritual. Thanks for taking my call, I'll hang up and listen.
Is there a page for basketball-reference for the Bucks vs Thunder NBA Cup Final game from December 17, 2024? I can't seem to find it.
Stathead subscriber - I'm trying to write a query to provide a list of NFL players and pull the number of games they have started. I've tried a combo of scraping and the site but not found a successful means - primarily because it looks like the games started is split depending on the position of the position.
Does anyone have any tips on how I could build out this type of solution - i.e. provide a list of 20 NFL player names and pull their games started?
Was curious to know if the other Sports Reference sites had an equivalent or stat similar to the "RE24" in Baseball Reference (I ask because I've found RE24 somewhat useful)
We are back with our Year in Review, where we crunch the numbers and uncover the top searched teams and players in all 50 states (and Canada).
Below are the links for every website under the Sports Reference umbrella!
Also, here is an example of what you will see!
Like the table on these pages, to be clear:
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/rai/2024.htm
https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/notre-dame/2024.html
Is there a reason the default sort on this table is not consistent across the two sites? Can this be rectified?
What exactly is the current default sort on this table on the CFB pages? It appears to be first sorted by "Games Played" and then there's a second sorting being done after that point that literally makes no sense, as it doesn't appear to be based on any kind of statistic in the table nor is it being done by the player's first or last name?
I have been trying to signup to stathead for the last 3 days and have not been able to.
I tried both basketball (which i am only interested in and the full package. Tried signing up with by filling my info, through Facebook and through google and also tried it on different browsers Brave and Chrome.
Every single time i get a 500 error.
Anyone has any idea what to do?
Hello. I am an IB student, and I am writing a math project in which I use defensive statistics to find the greatest NBA defender of all time. Therefore, I need to be able to see individual player OppFG% and compare it to the average OppFG% of the top 5 players in the league in that season (I can explain the formula later if anyone wants), but I can't seem to find player OppFG%, only team averages. As well, I need the statistics from 1982 to 2024. Does anybody know where I could find these statistics?
TLDR: need help finding player oppFG% from various seasons
We are happy to announce that we have added some more awards to Basketball Reference, allowing us to more fully flesh out our coverage of historical MVP and ROY awards. The most important and notable addition in this group is the Sam Davis Memorial Award, which was awarded by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association to the MVP each season from 1949-50 (the first NBA season after the merger of the BAA and NBL) through 1974-75. The NBA would merge with the ABA after the 1975-76 season, so this is a nearly full accounting of 'unofficial' MVPs from the original incarnation of the NBA.

Hey - Baseball Reference has been running really slow for me. I'm running it on Google Chrome. I cleared out it's cookies/cache. It's also causing my 2019 Macbook Pro to run REALLY hot as well. My Macbook Pro has 16 GB Memory & 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 Processor.
One last note - I also have FanGraphs in another tab open - and that is also running really slow.
Two questions: 1. What is causing my computer to run hot and go so slow. 2. Would upgrading to Ad-Free be the solution? I'm working on a project and the page running slow is making it a painful experience lol.
Seems that a bunch of player pages are highlighting the ERA and OPS columns in green, but I can't figure out why. Doesn't seem to be any pattern. Is it just a change that's slowly rolling out across player pages? Is there a pattern I'm missing?
Hi there, inspired by Donovan Clingan's box score the other night (0 points, 19 rebounds in 25 min) I was wondering if there is a way to find the highest rebound pct. in a single game (Clingan was 37.1%) but I don't see rebound pct as an option in the Statistical Filter field. Thanks for any guidance any one might have.
Below are the new features that you can see on both of these tables...
Also, in case you missed it, here is more info about how we at Sports Reference are rolling out upgraded stat tables across all of our sites!
Redesigned Footer rows, including "17 Game Avg" row

Stars for Pro Bowls
Playoffs tab now includes Awards column
Links to Game Logs from the Season column
Previously I was able to view counting stats for relief pitching by moving my cursor over Saves in the Standard Pitching Stats, but now it no longer brings up the table with this information. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I know they’re still available in Advanced Pitching Stats, but it was nice to just scroll over saves to see blown saves and save opportunities.
Is there a way to see a team splits for covering multiple year time period. For example, Chicago White Sox home vs away batting splits from 2006 to 2013.
Here are the new features you'll see on this table:
Playoffs Tab, including trophy emoji for winning Stanley Cup and Awards column for Playoff awards
More Stats: Ice time stats relocated from Miscellaneous Stats table
Redesigned Footer rows, now includes "82 Game Avg" row

We are thrilled to announce that we have added WUSA (Women's United Soccer Association) stats to FBref.com. WUSA ran from 2001 to 2003 and was a 1st Tier professional soccer league in the U.S., featuring many stars from the 1999 Women's World Cup. The competition included legends such as Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain, Julie Foudy, Briana Scurry, Tiffeny Milbrett, and many others.
We are thrilled to announce that we have released a huge update to the women's college basketball statistics appearing on College Basketball Reference. With this update, we now have player, team and opponent statistics going all the way back to 1981-82, which was the first season of NCAA-sanctioned women's basketball. This exciting update now gives us statistics for legends such as Cheryl Miller, Anne Donovan, Yolanda Laney, Teresa Edwards, Katrina McClain, Wanda Ford, Cynthia Cooper and Doris Burke.
The last major update to the site, back in February, featured expanded player and team statistics back to 1987-88. This update tacks an additional six seasons of statistics for players and teams, while also adding over 20 seasons of new opponent statistics. It includes coverage of games played, points, rebounds, assists, field goals made and attempted, and free throws made and attempted. Additionally, it includes biographical data such as height, class and position.
This update does not include minutes played, games started, personal fouls, turnovers, offensive/defensive rebounds, blocks or steals. NCAA women's basketball did not officially track blocks or steals before 1987-88, but we have a lot of this data directly from schools that we hope to add in the future. Similarly, assists were not officially tracked in NCAA women's basketball before 1985-86, but we hope to add more of this data, directly from the schools, in the future. In fact, our assists coverage is already comprehensive back to 1984-85, one season before the NCAA considers it official. 1987-88 was the first season in which all NCAA women's basketball games had a 3-point shot. Most team scoring sheets from before 1987-88 inconsistently handled how experimental 3-pt shots were handled, but we have done our best to include all of the made 3-pointers we were able to tease out.
Our work here is far from done. Please keep your eyes peeled for future updates with things like expanded school schedules/results, all-time NCAA Tournament box scores, women's NCAA Tournament buzzer-beaters, and hopefully one day even AIAW-era statistics.
To get a full breakdown of this data addition, you can read our blog post here.
I'm newer to pro-football reference and Stathead so I apologize if this has an obvious answer but I am wondering how to add game info to the query results table next to statistical filters. For example, I'm looking at every game played between 2021 and 2023 and their Vegas stats (spread, vs line, o/u, o/u results) but would on the same table like be able to look at each games surface type (grass or turf) and if the game was vs a divisional opponent. When I apply these "game filters" the results don't net a new column but instead filters the result and gives me games played only on grass or only on turf instead of all games and a column marking which surface type the game was played on. If anyone knows how to add such a column that would be very helpful and would save me a lot of time, thank you!
I am working on a project and want to show how extra running in extra innings have affected the inning in which a game ends.

In Baseball Reference, is there plans to put in playoff schedules underneath the regular season schedules in the team schedule and results pages like in the other sports reference pages? Thought that would be a good idea.
Here are the new features you'll see there...

Does anyone know if they plan on updating the boxscores page before games start today for CBB or is that only for boxscore data after game completion? I know other sports there are boxscores available for preview such as MLB, NFL, etc. I'm asking mostly because I would like to get the game ids for every game played daily.
