I'm new to producing (9 months) but would love to screw around with a singersongwriter and create something? or flesh out something of theirs?
I know theory and have played guitar for 15 years, so I'm no idiot. I'm no peter van Beethoven either but my mixes are becoming listenable :^)
please no straight lyricists!
I told the mods I might post this as promotional, but honestly I realized it's been a good few years since I've gotten honest-to-goodness feedback on a song, so what the hell. I've been here a while, and have been handing out advice; maybe I could use some myself. 🤓
This is a song my band Axigally did recently called Getting to Know Myself.
Normally, I write pretty introspective and hopeful lyrics, so I thought I'd try doing something a little different, and wrote what I originally conceived of as a song that would tell a story that might appear on The Blacklist (though I think it ended up closer to The X-Files, or our keyboardist/producer said it reminded him of Sylar from Heroes).
Anyway, I'd love to hear feedback. As far as genre, our style has always changed often, sometimes for each song, but we tend to hover around prog pop. This song isn't necessarily a representative sample (there are a few others posted I'd welcome feedback on as well), but it was really fun to make! 😎
Things they commonly do or things they do maybe not as commonly but extremely well? What about their songs made them so iconic? What about their songs makes them so interesting despite their simplicity at times (such as Breathe)?
I have a basic understanding of theory so I’d love to hear the theory behind some of these ideas!
I’d love to know more about the songwriting of Animals and Dark Side of the Moon in particular!
80% of people think they are good drivers.
I've been on a writing binge for a couple of months and I've started thinking that my songs are world class. I think I can't have a warped perception of how good they are and am wondering if other people think about this? Honestly how good do you think your songs are?
*I.know it doesn't matter and also know I need to get feedback from others which I'm working on this is more about how people feel about their own stuff.
Hello! My name is Killian and I am an instrumentalist. I’ve put together a few demos and I’m looking for a vocalist. Would love to find someone serious about music and wants to build something great to advertise, play shows, create content etc…
Here are 2 of my instrumentals to give an idea of the music I’m writing.

Hi!
I just recently found this sub! I usually keep my writings and recordings on my phone or laptop, but some pieces I uploaded on YouTube while ago. This is one of them!
Nothing that much of deal, it's a home raw demo, but still!
I want to compose music, and have recently started learning a lot more theory (Im a guitar player with limited theory knowledge), and realized that there's so much to learn (aside from guitar) when it comes to production, recording, rhythm (drums), keyboard, etc that it feels overwhelming.. I have limited time outside of work and I feel that I just have to go go go, and that feeling takes away from the enjoyment?
anyone dealt with this and what realizations helped you overcome this?
Sorry about deleting my post. You guys wrote good comments. Real glad reddit doesn't delete comments if a post was deleted - seems like they used to, but i regret deleting it, anyway.)
hello very much
im really intrigued by the idea of getting into songwriting. music has always been a significant part of my life, and it seems like a fantastic way to express myself. listening to artists whose lyrics resonate has inspired me to create my own songs that tell stories and connect with people.
i believe the best songs intertwine abstract ideas with vivid narratives, resulting in a captivating and distinctive experience. i want to dive into different lyrical techniques, like using metaphors and imagery to convey my thoughts and feelings. striking that balance between personal experiences, imagined scenarios, and universal concepts is something im really passionate about so listeners can truly connect with what im writing.
im not very good at translating those thoughts, feelings, words, and situations into lyrical form. so understanding lyrical structure and how to craft verses and choruses that flow seamlessly is really important to me, too. some tips ive come across include analyzing lyrics from my favorite artists, using songwriting prompts to spark creativity, and exploring resources like online courses or books on songwriting techniques. if anyone has more tips or specific resources about any of the things ive mentioned please lmk! thanks
(edit) i forgot to mention; im inspired a lot by artists such as deftones, cocteau twins, my bloody valentine, slowdive, jeff buckley, and beach house. theres obviously more bands and artists i could list but those are the main ones.
I only know the major 7th and suspended 2. what else should I know about like that dissonant sound
I’m suuupppper new to songwriting and I know these lyrics are clunky and I was wondering is someone could help me find a way to make them flow better? This is also just a chunk of something I spewed out when I was upset and I really like it I just don’t know what to do with it.
You only want me when you’re drinking ~ Only my body though and it’s got me thinking ~ Every Barbie likes being played with ~ So I’ll let you undress me ~ While you remind me it means nothing ~ But you always turn it into something ~ Acting like it’s my fault that you all but begged ~ You pretend I also wasn’t drunk instead ~ It’s easier to blame the toy ~ Then admit you felt any joy ~ I’m tired of being left on read ~ Right after you leave me in my bed ~ You seemed happy but i know what’s next ~ This cycle is it some kind of hex ~ No matter what I do ~ It’s always back to you ~ I try to be happy to show I’m fine ~ After all plastic can only shine ~ I knew I was made to be played with ~ So don’t expect anything more than this ~ I’m a phase to grow out of and get nostalgic for ~ No matter what I do I’ll always be his whore ~ So you tell yourself you love him and it’ll be okay ~ You’ll be played with again someday ~
-Second Version-
Was it just the liquor talking~ When you opened up old boxes ~ You found your old toy in her coffin ~ You decided to take her out~ Every Barbie wants to be played with ~ Go ahead and take off her clothes ~ Bring her back into your life ~
That painted smile can only show she’s fine~ After all plastic can only shine~ She knows she was meant to be played with~ She doesn’t expect anything more than this ~ Dolls are phases to grow nostalgic for~ She was created to be his whore~ That plastic body says she loves him~ It will be okay~ She’ll be played with again someday~
You go to the store for the newest model~ Some offbrand, red lip thing~ Don’t you know new plastic always breaks~ It can’t handle your immature mistakes~ You’ll home to pull Barbie out from under the bed ~ Out from the gravesite, you left her for dead~
I'm trying to write lyrics for my punk rock, alternative rock album but can't figure anything out any tips?
We took 8 songwriters chose a theme and all spent the afternoon writing to the same topic and performed the songs that night and captured the whole thing on video and made this movie. Staring Willy Tea Taylor, Possessed by Paul James, Jordan Smart, Joe Kaplow, Tom Vandenavond, Chris Doud, Bobcat Rob and Ona Stewart
It's a great resource for anyone looking to learn or just want to feel inspired.
