I have been having a hard time making friends since I’ve moved to Yucaipa. Anyone planning on hiking around forest falls or any surrounding areas soon?
Will there still be snow on the trail by Memorial Day? It looks like right now it's really difficult to do this trail.
One day , a friend and I were hiking mt baldy , and when we came back to the car there was a piece of paper on my car with a random website address. I typed in the name of the web address and it led to a weird website , it wasn’t very clear on what the purpose of it was but had pictures of people happy and socializing and playing music , but again was not clear about what it was really about , has anyone else ever found the website posted on their car?
I was borned and raised in San Diego but my parents, the hard workers they are, couldn't do much hiking. Despite this I grew up loving nature thanks to nature documentaries and my love for physical geography. At 17 I joined the military and now 6 years later on my way home I decided to do a road trip around the four corner region, hitting all the national parks in Colorado and Utah which was life changing. I'm home now but I can not stop thinking about hiking! I want to be a world hiker but I especially would love to know my local area extremely well so where does a true socal hiker hike?
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows if I can get to the trailhead that leads to Little Jimmy Campground from HWY 2? Would it be the Islip Saddle or is this area closed still?
If it is, would anyone have any suggestions for a one-night backpack trip that's at most 2 hour drive away that has some trees or some water?
I’m from SoCal born and raised and haven’t really met people who share the same interest around my age (24) I hike quite frequently along with a lot of other outdoor sports just haven’t had opportunities to meet others.
Hello,
Are you allowed to hike Whitney, as a group leader, twice in one year?
For example- I secured a day permit in the lottery for very early October. I know the unclaimed permits will be released soon. If I found a great midweek permit, could I claim it and hike Whitney twice?
Anyone been up there in the last week or so? Hoping to go in the next week or two but worried about the ice/snow up top.
I recently moved to LA and I'm looking to join a social hiking club, preferably with people in their mid-20s. Are there any near the Griffith Park area? I've heard of LA Hike Club, but it looks like they haven't done a hike since September.
Hey everyone, this isn't really hiking but I am wondering if anyone on here can help me. My dog and I used to do lots of snow hikes but she has cancer now and can't do long hikes. She loves the snow and I think this might be her last chance to see it so I want to take her somewhere this weekend before the snow melts. In the past we have hiked Waterman, Islip, Josephine and more in the snow. And then I have taken her to Buckhorn day use area or this picnic area on the north side of Waterman before the ski lifts to let her run around and play. Does anyone know if these areas have snow right now? It seems like Waterman and Buckhorn do according to Instagram but I know that can be deceiving. I'm mainly looking just for an area to let her play in or a short easy hike. I am also willing to go out towards Wrightwood!
Thank you and here is a photo of my dog from a few years ago in the snow on Waterman!
Had a great hike yesterday. Ran into a Coyote that was very interested in us. Brandi wanted to play.
Has anyone done the Alder Creek trail recently? Or been up to Dough Flat? How overgrown is the trail? Is the gate three miles before Dough Flat open yet?
I’m looking for breathtaking views that aren’t too difficult to reach. Thank you for any recommendations! I appreciate them ☺️
Any suggestions for a hydro backpack for Mt Whitney? Going to do the trip in a day and looking for a good lightweight pack.
Hi, I’m looking for some mid waterproof hiking boots recommendation. I currently own : Timberland Men's White Ledge Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots
I recently hiked at baldy and on my way down to manker flats, I kept slipping on the ice mud slushy (I removed my microspikes since there was not much ice left), need something with better traction.
Also, on long hikes the support on my fibula bone hurts, I think there’s not enough cushion.
Look for something for wide feet. I purchased Salomon’s but it was very tight
Planning a day trip to Big Bear at the end of the month - hoping to hike the Cougar Crest trail and do a little jaunt down to the lake. How is the parking situation for the trail? Can I park without an adventure or day pass at the Discovery Center? Also, how is it driving around town - easy breezy, or crowded? I’ll be going early morning on a Sunday. This newbie thanks you for the info.
