Help me pick a reliable sled

Looking to buy a new-to-me used sled. Affordable and reliable are priorities over performance, but I don't just want a super basic slow fanner. My first and only sled is a 99 670 Formula Z I bought 5 years ago for $1200 with 2700 miles. I got it because everyone said the 583s and 670s were bulletproof engines. I'd like a newer upright style machine. I'm looking for whatever the "newer" bulletproof motor is, whatever that is. Also- everything I'm seeing has a solid 4 or 5 thousand miles, which seems high. What do we consider "high" and what would be a good choice? I like skidoo, but I'd consider any brand. Seeing a lot of 09-12 skidoo 600s and 800s. I mostly ride groomed trails, and I'd like to keep it in the 3k-5k price range but could technically spend any amount. TIA for reading all that and any input. Pic of my $1200 99 for attention

Best helmet for riders with glasses?

I've had the ski doo modular 2 and 3, now currently the ski doo exome.. they fog up if I don't plug in the heated shields.

Worst is that my glasses fog up before the shield.

Anyone have any suggestions for a helmet that won't fog or make my glasses fog?

Is the answer the mission ams? Or the ski doo oxygen series?

Voltage regulator: rmk600 (06)

Where can I look to buy a voltage regulator for my 2006 RMK? I think I found one that would work on Amazon but any suggestions to parts shops online would be great. Does Polaris still sell OEM replacements?

Honestly, any website for gear or parts would be awesome. New to the hobby. Thanks!

Club members, what do you use to track what trails have been cleared/trimmed in the fall?

Hey all! So my club doesn’t have a club house or central area to keep a map and mark what’s been done. I was wondering if maybe there was software you use where I could just have everyone take their phones, track where they started and ended and put in who was there, what tools they used, how many hours, etc. because the state will give money to the club for our work clearing trails.

I doubt a piece of software specifically for that purpose exists, but if it does I figured this sub would be where to ask.

UP Michigan trail reports

I called a hotel in Ironwood to see what their snow amounts are. They got 18” overnight.

My question is, how long will it take for the trails to be groomed and ready to ride?

2008 Skidoo MXZ 600

Only ever owned older Polaris. I see lots of these Skidoos listed quite a bit cheaper than the other name brands. Reliable? Are they junk? Stay away from?

Tell me a little about them please and thanks.

Sled Recommendations (ski hill & backcountry)

I have a Honda Pioneer with tracks that I use to groom the hill behind our house. I also lug the kids and friends up the hill to come back down. It works great with 4-5 people, but I'm not a fan of putting the endless hours on it for just 1 person...

So, I'm looking for sled recommendations that would tow 1-2 people up a 'green run', but might also be usable in the backcountry. Not necessarily a pow surfer or missel, but something that is capable of occasional off-trail riding. Budget is 5-7k. I'm not brand loyal and I'm also decent with maintaining/repairing.

What are these pins for?

We just bought this old tilt trailer and were wondering what the pins on the front edge are for. Previous owner had no idea. Neither do I, I’m just getting into this hobby.

Why does my sled do this?

My 2003 RX1 is trying to take off as soon as it is started. I blew a belt last year, cleaned all of the debris out, and tried multiple belts. It has a Bender Racing secondary. I’ve scoured the net for help troubleshooting this but have come up empty handed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Deciding on ice fishing sled

Hey guys,

I'm new to snowmobiling and trying to narrow my search for a sled. It will be used 80% of the time on the lake for ice fishing, most likely pulling a pelican 60, and maybe 20% of the time on trails. Access to the lakes I fish is fairly easy, and a friend lives on the shore.

There are a few sleds for sale around me, but I don't know if one of these models is better for my purposes:

I've seen a few 2014-15 Indy 550 fans - I assume the LXTs would be better because it's a longer track, but I don't know if that's true for my purpose. Any disadvantages to this one? It seems like I could get a newer sled if I went with Polaris.

mid 2000's bearcat 570s

ski doo 550 fans from 2003 - 2011

Skidoo gsx fans from early 2000's

Is there a certain amount of km I should be cautious of for any of these?

When do the engines usually need a rebuild? I know this could vary based on the rider, but I'm just looking for a general number to keep in mind.

Can electric start be added to these if not installed already? My back isn't the greatest these days, so I would like that as an option.

I realize it is a broad list, but I'd like to know if there's something specific that I should look at with any of those models that are common to break/fail when seeing the sled in person.

Any help is appreciated.

Trail riding in South Dakota?

Anyone ever ride in SD? Is it comparable to Wisc/UP? Bar hop trail riding? I'm looking for something scenic with a similar trail riding experience as the UP. Anyone have any recommendations on where to stay/ride?

Lifting sled

Any tips on lifting your sled when you’re stuck or whatever the situation. Most helpful would be lifting rear to move track over. Or is it just more time in the gym.

No Sparc

2008 Polaris Trail/transport 550 c

I started ours a couple of days ago and moved it. But today it won’t even turn over. It appears I have no spark at the plugs.

Any idea which components in the ignition fail the most? Just on probabilities?
