I’m a product manager with about 10 years of experience, currently living in Korea. I’ve been thinking about moving to the U.S. for a few years now because I’d love to live and work there. My plan is to first complete a master’s degree in a STEM field, then pursue a product manager role in Silicon Valley.
But I have a few concerns. I’m not sure how competitive the job market is for international PMs in the U.S. and if it would be feasible to land a role after graduation. Additionally, I’m worried about any potential language barriers affecting my performance, even though I have a solid TOEIC score and feel fairly confident in my English skills.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone with a similar background or experience. Any advice or insights would be super helpful!
I am a software engineer and I got an offer to move from Europe to SV for a salary between 150k and 200k (depending on how the stocks and bonuses translate). I would move with my wife who works in pharmacy but does not have an offer secured yet and may have to work as a technician at first until she gets her license.
I am trying to crunch up the numbers and decide if this relocation would make financial sense for us. We were mainly looking into Palo Alto / Mountain View. How big would the cost of living be for a couple in their late 20s without kids in these areas?
We’re building a STEM makerspace where kids can dive into robotics, coding, and AI—inspiring young minds to build and explore!
We’d love your support and ideas. Click “Notify Me on Launch” on Kickstarter and join us on LinkedIn to follow our journey. Thanks for helping us make this a reality! 😊

I’ve always been fascinated by the power of Reddit’s community. It’s already shown it can take on Wall Street—so I started wondering: could it also take on Silicon Valley’s tech giants?
What if we built something incredible together, something that redefines what’s possible when a community unites with a shared purpose? No investors, no big budgets—just the passion, skills, network, knowledge and creativity of Redditors.
Here’s the vision: we’ll gather ideas, find one that excites us, and then make it real. Everyone brings something to the table—whether you’re a developer, designer, strategist, engineer and so on. We will establish a new, innovative organizational method within the startup, making each person essential and impactful.
We’ll build, test, and launch a product/service that represents the spirit of the Team formed. With the goal of helping/improving society. All with zero budget.
Why Zero Budget?
Because this isn’t about money; it’s about proving what’s possible when a community comes together. We’re challenging ourselves to create something impactful without traditional funding, relying solely on creativity, efforts and teamwork.
If you’re serious about being part of this unique experiment, let me know writing: ”I’m IN”. Let’s see if we can turn this experiment into reality together.

As a PM Do you always work from a table?I like to work from bed/ sofa, but feel sleepy. On a table , I feel depressed and get anxious thoughts about past life failures like visa issues, divorce etc.
I’m a reporter at the San Francisco Standard. Curious to speak with Bay Area-based people who are taking time off next week for their mental health during the election and aftermath. Get in touch at rjetha@sfstandard.com.
I am told:
The PM in an engineering-driven firm doesn't actually have veto power over the engineering team's decisions, because they can just find a new PM. If you act like you do, it just destroys trust between you and the engineering team, which will make you ineffective.
Tech PM is just the long arm of Eng Management. It’s the way to get technical topics into the teams without having to fight for priority with a non-Technical, product oriented PO. So if you too, are blocking Eng Management requests, then of course they are unhappy.
Pick and choose your battles. Sometimes it’s easier to just say yes
I am a Tech Product Manager in an engineering driven firm. My manager says that I am not good at stakeholder management, because I say no to my engineering counterparts many times. I have tried all means of persuasion, but the engineering manager wishes to focus on their priorities like bug fixes etc.
They have raised concern that I am not aligned with them many times. My manager says that this is underperformance.
I think they are asking me to say yes, so that they can get promoted.
Sometimes it feels there are two choices - (1) Events for families with kids or (2) Club parties with mostly 18-25 but maybe I'm wrong as I am relatively new to the Bay Area and hoping to meet people my age
Been dating this cute girl, we want to do shrooms somewhere nice in nature and watercolor together. Any nice secluded nature spots people would recommend close to South Bay?
Ideally with lots of grass and a stream
Hey everyone! I'm part of Aalto Entrepreneurship Society, the largest student-run entrepreneurship society in Europe. We're organizing a trip to US and will be traveling as a group of 15 to San Francisco between 11/29/2024 and 12/10/2024. Our goal is to talk with as many interesting startup founders as possible to learn their story and insights to early-stage entrepreneurship.
Our way of organizing meetings is such that everyone contacts people that they find interesting by sending cold email/LinkedIn messages. Our networks in SF are limited as we're based in Finland. It has been surprisingly difficult to arrange meetings sending cold emails.
If you are a founder of a startup or know founders who would like to meet entrepreneurial students, and perhaps hear about how we do things in Finland (our association has a budget of a million dollars completely run by students), we would be happy to arrange a meeting!
Also, if you have any suggestions to how to reach people and arrange meetings, I would love to hear those as well!
Guys is there any recommendations I am coming for a meeting for one week in palo alto, and it seems palo alto has very expensive hotels! What do you think of staying in sunnyvale and using taxi to go to Palo Alto ?
