my two siberians frequently roll over when i’m petting them and show their bellies. i know this is a sign of trust, but are they telling me they want their bellies rubbed? do anyone know else’s sibs do this too? obligatory picture attached 🫶🏻
Our younger guy Mizu is still only a year old so he still likes to start trouble 😆 thankfully his older brother Niko is super patient… most of the time at least 😆
And it didn’t even end in a fight like usual.
TLDR: live in a one bedroom (2nd floor of a house) with my husband and bernese mountain dog. Is it crazy to think we can get a cat as well?
Coming from a pet-free family growing up, I've always wanted animals. We've had our bernese for almost 3y now and he's the sweetest boy and makes my inner child so happy. Having a cat has also been a lifelong dream, and my husband has been saying 'wait until we move so we have more space.' He's allergic but I've fallen in love with sibs and have found a reputable breeder near me. I was recently talking about how excited I am to get a cat and sending my husband rental listings, and without prompting said, 'if you really want you can get the cat before moving.' He's new in his job and we're just not sure where we will end up so he doesn't want to commit to a new lease now. Our current apartment is about 750 sq feet, in the second floor of a house. It's an entry way from the outside which is open to the stairs that lead up to 1 big living room attached to the kitchen, a bathroom, and a large bedroom.
So- am I crazy for thinking we can make it work? Here's what I've thought of so far:
There are 2 cats from this breeder that are pregnant right now, one is due today and the other in a month. They would either come home mid-Feb or mid-March. I'm hoping for an orange male!!
Anyhow, thanks for reading through this and give me a reality check if needed. I'm ready for it (mostly).
I have two sisters that are 7 months old. They have scrapped pretty consistently since they were a few months old.
One of them is a fair bit heavier than the other, and recently she has been pinning her sister. This isn't strange, but she has stopped backing off when the pinned sister makes a very uncomfortable sounding yowl and hiss.
Should I be intervening or leave them to it? As far as I can see there has been no blood or pee anywhere, but it is starting to worry me that the bigger one knows she is bigger and will become a bit of a bully.
My little forest cat
Hi again! Thanks so much for the support and awesome suggestions (re: post looking for catteries in the tristate area).
After some research into all of the suggested catteries my partner and I have decided to give Willow Springs in PA a try. I don’t want to have a repeat of what happened with my first attempt at reaching out to a different cattery so I’m just wondering if anyone else has dealt with Willow Springs, any tips on the process of adopting with them, red flags, general comments on how your fur babies are doing after the fact? TIA 🩵
So I’m in a little predicament where my girl has needle-sharp nails and definitely is due for a trim.
The problem is, she’s a fighter. On top of that, her paws are so furry and dense, by the time I locate her nail to trim it, she’s in full-fledged panic mode.
I don’t want to cause her extreme stress (or maybe I’m just too sensitive to seeing her squirm while I try to trim her nails). I’ve tried wrapping her in a fleece blanket, but she still manages to worm her way out. I also try to get her used to having her paws touched, but she tends to take that as an invitation to play fight (she’s incredibly playful, hence the danger of her murder mittens lol)
Does anybody have any tips or tricks for trimming their sibs nails, especially if they’re a fighter?
Don’t have footage of this, but wanted to share anyway. My cat loves to bunt things, her main way of showing affection. She’s learned that when she walks by I’ll stick a closed fist out, she bunts it with her head, and continues on her merry way like she’s given me a fist bump in the only way she knows how hahah
Cat tax has been added
Anyone know anything about Siberian cat nestle in Minnesota? Offering $700 each. Not sure if it’s worth further time.
My Sib has sometimes this moment were she makes a soft mew while looking at me (no dialated pupils) and blinks. Normally if she wants something its far louder. Normally blinking is communicating that all is ok and theres no particular interest in me. If she wants to sit on my lap shes clear and meows and looks restless and jumps on my lap. I have seen her doing this before she just stands 1.5 meters away from and does this and it feels really like she wants to tell me something but calmly. Anyone recognize this and has seen a pattern? I thought maybe she is bored and wants to go for a walk so I took her for a long walk. I dont know i find it special and thought this is the right community to ask. Maybe someone recognized it.
I have a 1.5 year old cat that gets overstimulated easily and quickly gets aggressive. She’ll attach her claws into the skin and NOT let go. I’ve gotten better at reading her cues and will stop petting her before it usually gets to that point. However, I have two kids, ages 8 and 11. We’ve talked about reading her signals but they aren’t quite able to before they get attacked.
A couple of days ago she scratched my son really bad, ripping holes in his shirt and causing him to bleed a good amount. I can’t continue having her hurt my kids. She has an appointment to be declawed on Thursday but I’m VERY hesitant and don’t want to go that route, however I’m unsure what else to do.
I’ve read getting a second cat could be helpful, although we’d rather not take that on… If we were to get a second cat, is there an ideal age difference? We’re currently babysitting a foster kitten that looks very Siberian as well. We’ve toyed with the idea of potentially adopting her but I’m nervous to do so.
I feel like she is probably bored but she really doesn’t like playing. It’s pretty hard to get her engaged. She doesn’t care much for food, which makes it tricky to reward her.
We’re willing to look into a cat behaviorist if anyone has recommendations. I have read Jackson Galaxy. We’ve talked to her vet. Please, any advice or tips at all. Thank you!
So I got my cat Myra 2 months ago and sadly I was allergic. We’ve tried everything to get rid of the allergy, but nothing is helping fully. I’ve been having a chronic sore throat pretty much this full 2 months of having her.
She’s an all white 8 month old Siberian cat.
I live in Dallas Texas and don’t mind selling her for half the price we got her for.
If anyone is interested she’s an amazing cat, the best and most calm I’ve ever seen. Please let me know if you would like to take her off our hands
Someone is less than impressed 😁
