Anyone gone above and beyond the 180gr class in 7mm-08? Midway has a wild sale for SMKs, I fully intend to load the heaviest bullets I can (197) into my 7mm-08. If it doesn’t work, I’ll rechamber or buy a 7SAUM barrel. I have Varget, H4350, StaBall Match and 6.5, and H4831SC. I’m not opposed to single feeding for this mission, but I have MDT mags that allow up to 2.960-ish OAL.
Posting here because I realize this is kinda ridiculous…
Sticking my toe, whole foot, into rifle reloading. This is just from initial setup of my seating/crimp die (Lee dies). Max for 45-70 is 2.550. Does anyone see any glaring issues with these. Red is 450 grain and black is 405 grain. Both are hi tech coated lead in new Starline brass. Both cycle good through my Ruger/Marlin Trapper.
I know 45-70 is the same as loading for 44 mag process wise but it's been a long time since I loaded anything besides 9mm and 40 short and weak (I load to minor power factor for practical shooting games).
Found this,
Serves me right for shooting armscor
So I changed from .45 colt to .44/40 and used the dies and pins supplied by the guy I bought the press from. It seems that he had been tidy and placed the #1 pins in the .44/40 container, and I swapped the #4 locator pins out. Found the press quite jammy and not fluid at all, brass not lining up (with result seen in photo). Got sick of fighting the jammed cases and took locator pins out. All started to improve. Read the Dillon calibre change chart- should be #4. Swapped them in and smooth sailing for next 180 rounds. Time for a drink.
I want to start a gambling rehabilitation business. Rehab will involve long hours of brass prep since the motion of a press is very similar to a slot machine. Rehab patients will pay $200 a day and at the end of the day they will win the "$200 jackpot".
What's in it for them? Free rehabilitation and they will no longer lose their hard earned money to casinos.
What's in it for us? Free brass prep labor of course.
Who would like to join me on this business venture?
My resizing tool did not work so the projectile was loose in the case. I inserted it anyways and just crimped around it with a table vise and the bullet is stuck now. The brass got minor deformations but do you lads think it would still shoot?
Its only one improvised cartridge and im just curious to know if it still would work.
I spent 2 months trying to get these 184 Bergers to shoot sub 3 moa in my new 280AI build. Total waste of time and components. Switched to the 180gr lapuas and the first batch with no load development work at all came in at 1.05 moa. First batches of Sierras, Barnes, and Hornady all come in at <1.5 moa.
Let this be a lesson to the rest of you: if it shoots like crap, it shoots like crap. You can't tweak your way out of 4 moa.
That’s it. A trimmer in my country can cost like 2 grand.
Is there any way more “creative” to do it?
I don't think reloading is for me guys. I have everything for 10mm and .308 I'm throwing in the towel hit me up if interested.
Powder die backed out and wasn’t putting enough bell on my cases which was scraping the jacket when seating.
Screenshot before it's inevitably deleted so y'all can savor the pure unrefined stupidity
I know they pack in the box better but I’m just not sure how well they work.
