I am looking to camp in both Sequoia and King's Canyon next May and was hoping to get some information on how to properly acquire reservations. Recreation.gov is telling me that due to winter closures they hope to open availability in mid April for campgrounds such as Azalea and Lodgepole.
I've camped before where closures happen in winter time but you can still reserve a spot for their expected re-open ahead of time. Is there a way around this?
Is camping in Sequoia in April reasonable? I was looking at historical temps and they seem really low, like colder than Banff in June, but maybe the official recorded temps are taken at a higher elevation than the campgrounds? We’re experienced and have good gear, but also camp with kids. Coming from east coast.
This is my first time going to Sequoia National Park to see the Tokopah Falls.
P.S. I'm sorry for having my fingers in the way.
This was filmed in 7/23/2023.
Hello,
Can anyone please chime in with their thoughts/experiences and any tips about staying at Wuksashi lodge and John Muir lodge? Things like how's the food, internet, cell service. And if anyone has also stayed at Yosemite view lodge I'd take the same. Am considering all 3 of the above for a Sequioa-Kings canyon-Yosemite trip. Thanks!
If I still searching a quote to give a pay to a reason we have to kniwn that probabbly there arent reason admissible to a request by the server with net and in conseguence the product estabilished in the night by this palace really lite having conseguence to the people without occupation
My camp reservation is for 11/19. I saw a post from Sequoia national Park tonight, saying to not travel to the Sequoia due to road conditions and weather. I saw there’s forecast also said there’s rain or snow Friday. How likely is it the roads and weather could clear up over the weekend to 11/19?
Looking to gather friends to go camp in late june 2025. will be using only tents and hammocks. want to be within 45 minutes of general sherman tree. where should i be looking to get a campsite for this big of a crowd? any other suggestions?
We had such a wonderful time exploring Sequoia!
Can some one suggest what will be open during christmas and is it worth going to sequoia during that time for a 2 day trip? I want to enjoy snow since i have some nephews visiting and will be witnessing snow for the first time. I also dont want to get stuck in the blizzard and have a difficult driving situation. Any road closures i need to be made aware of? i then plan on going to death valley after sequoia.
I love how this group is both people who own Toyota sequoias and people talking about the park
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I was driving through part of Sequoia National Park on hwy 155/Evans rd and saw a German Shepherd standing by the road.
It was really dark out and very late, so I wasn't able to stop in time to see if it needed help.
Does anyone know if one of the ranches or cabins in the area let their dogs loose like that? A few miles down, I saw a baby bobcat, so I began to worry.
Hi guys, i have a 2002 first gen. I hear a slight banging/ thud when accelerating sometimes under 10km/h
I thought maybe my ballpoints, so I checked them and they have no play in them with the wheel jacked up and pryed with a bar.
I see an oil leak around what I assume is the back end of the transmission or transfer case. I also see what looks like a really shiny part of the drive shaft which doesn’t look right. It’s almost like the shaft can telescope into itself in order to create a smooth spot like that. Does the drive shaft get longer and shorter for any reason or is this silver wear spot just coincidentally clean?
Brand new Gen1 Sequoia owner. First post on Reddit. It currently has the stock 265/65/R17 tires on it. How big can I go without lifting? Thanks in advance! Apologies if this has already been asked…
We didn’t prepare and thought we could get a first come first serve but everything is taken. If we sleep in our car in one of the parking lots, will we get bothered? Any ideas of where to stay now? There’s tons of “reserved” spots but at least 40 were empty. Ideas would be great thank you!
Hi, I’ll be visiting Sequoia and KC at the end of October/early November and, if the weather allows it, I would like to a longer trek while staying overnight at a nice location. I guess the goal would be to get to a place with a nice sunset and sunrise and next day come back to where the van will be parked.
My friend is in pretty good shape so he’ll be carrying most of the equipment. I, unfortunately, have a small medical condition under treatment that is impairing my ability to do sports, so I’ll have to take it light and slow. Just some info to keep in mind :)
Any suggestions?
Want to drive into the giant tree section- should we bring bikes to get from tree to tree or is it just walking?
I'm planning a road trip with friends to Joshua Tree, Death Valley, SEKI, and Channel Islands in December, and while we have done plenty of hiking throughout the past few summers, we are completely lost on what to pack/buy for winter hiking clothes (I literally made this account to ask for help!!!), and are most concerned for SEKI since it will be the coldest temps.
So far I've acquired the Patagonia midweight capilene top & leggings for a baselayer + Darn Tough midweight hiking socks + I have a North Face down filled puffer jacket. Still looking for a fleece midlayer and something to wear over the capilene leggings (fleece leggings?? waterproof pants?? please help lol)
I already have waterproof Columbia hiking boots and am looking at Kahtoola microspikes ($75) vs. Amazon knockoffs ($20). Any strong opinions there?
Am I going about this the right way? Is it overkill? Not-enough-kill?
Has anyone been to Cedar Grove recently? I just booked a campsite at Sentinel for mid-October and then saw that there's a fire burning quite close. If you've been there recently, how bad was the smoke?
If you're planning a trip to the western states, there's one creature you might want to be aware of: the Tarantula Hawk. It sounds like something out of a horror movie, and for tarantulas, it pretty much is. I've seen these on several hikes in the Kings Canyon NP and Sequoia NP. For you there could be some major discomfort, look at the schmidt pain scale! Might not want to swat at these.
Hey everyone! Planning a last minute trip to Sequoia on the last weekend of September. The only lodge we could find so last minute within the park is the Silver City Resort in Mineral King Area.
Never been to Sequoia, so I’m not familiar at all with the area, but from what I’ve read it seems close to the fires.
Do you think spending the weekend there might be risky / unpleasant with the smoke and air quality? I tried contacting them but haven’t heard back yet - I wonder if they are even open at this point
Thank you!
I’ll be visiting sequoia and camping the first time. I was wondering how much of a concern is theft at campsites? Is there a padlock for the bear lockers. I’m concerned about my cooler and belongings as I’m gone on hikes.
Weather.com is saying around 100 degrees? https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/Sequoia+National+Park+CA?canonicalCityId=82ee7ef9efeaa83e61a13609cac6565475d4bcbf2d7d46248d2a0df620982e02
Is it better to cancel the trip? We are planning to going to Congress trail, Moro Rock, Cresent Meadow Loop (it's our first time)
Hi, wondering is Nov. a good time to visit the park? Thinking of taking a short trip during Thanksgiving holiday. First time visit, any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Anyone ever been? Staying in Exeter but heading to Sequoia for the day/evening this weekend and was curious about this event. We have a two middle schoolers who are kind of interested in astronomy. Any chance smoke from the fire would obscure the stars?
Hey all! Anyone staying at or near princess camground/Hume Lake? How’s the air quality from the coffee pot fire?
Should I cancel? :( is the General Sherman area not looking too good either?
I’m staying at Princess 9/6-9/8 in a tent. Coming from Las Vegas.
Thanks in advance!
