...he really is rippin the pish out defences down there. I've watched a good five or six of Boro's games this season and he's already getting opposition doubling up on him, to no real avail.
Honestly, be excited. No saying he's gonna be Ballon d'Oak but he's a guy that turned nineteen only yesterday that's already one of the best players in the Championship.
Where could he improve? I suppose he could do with maybe pacing himself a little more; he's invariably blowing out his arse by the 70-80 minute mark cause he's so full pelt with and without the ball, and that's him with his match fitness largely up to scratch. And while he does work hard out of possession, he has a lot to learn about how to orient himself properly in the press, but that's a thing that comes with coaching and experience that even the biggest donkeys get good at.
Cannae wait to see him in the flesh again on Friday 💙
free kick even pen call what do we think of this game was called lit right after this.
So during the Match Thread earlier, I queried how often Celtic end up playing away during Remembrance Sunday as a way for the SFA / Premiership / whoever organises the fixtures to avoid any 'headache' that comes with this time of year for Celtic fans and their feelings toward the poppy and the silence et al
This led me to spending the hour before my DND session kicks off researching all of both Rangers and Celtic's fixtures on or the fixture closest to or on Rememrance Sunday since this was introduced 21 years ago in the national competitions specfically, not champions league etc as I've never from memory seen silences done there? (Thanks to u/Initial-Emergency-42 for letting me know that)
At first I thought it would've been as simple as "well when Celtic are away, Rangers will be at home and vice versa" and that is mostly the case, but there is a period of time where it wasn't actually.
Alas, the table below shows the seasons until the 2002/2003 season
Season | Celtic Fixture | Rangers Fixture |
---|---|---|
24/25 | Away - Kilmarnock (WIN) | Home - Hearts (WIN) |
23/24 | Home - Aberdeen (WIN) | Away - Livingston (WIN) |
22/23 | Home - Ross County (WIN) | Away - St Mirren (DRAW) |
21/22 | Away - Dundee (WIN) | Home - Ross County (WIN) |
20/21 | Away - Motherwell (WIN) | Home - Hamilton (WIN) |
19/20 | Home - Motherwell (WIN) | Away - Livingston (WIN) |
18/19 | Away - Livingston (DRAW) | Home - Motherwell (WIN) |
17/18 | Away - St Johnstone (WIN) | Home - Partick Thistle (WIN) |
16/17 | Home - Inverness (WIN) | Away - Ross County (DRAW) |
15/16 | Away - Ross County (WIN) | Home - Alloa Athletic (WIN) |
14/15 | Home - Aberdeen (WIN) | Home - Falkirk (WIN) |
13/14 | Away - Ross County (WIN) | Home - Airdire (WIN) |
12/13 | Home - St Johnstone (DRAW) | Home - Peterhead (WIN) |
11/12 | Home - Motherwell (WIN) | Home - Dundee United (WIN) |
10/11 | Away - St Mirren (WIN) | Home - Aberdeen (WIN) |
09/10 | Away - Falkirk (DRAW) | Home - St Mirren (WIN) |
08/09 | Home - Motherwell (WIN) | Away - Kilmarnock (WIN) |
07/08 | Away - Kilmarnock (WIN) | Home - Inverness (WIN) |
06/07 | Away - St Mirren (WIN) | Home - Dunfermline (WIN) |
05/06 | Home - Rangers (WIN) | Away - Celtic (LOSS) |
04/05 | Home - Inverness (WIN) | Away - Hibs (WIN) |
03/04 | Home - Dunfermline (WIN) | Away - Kilmarnock (WIN) |
02/03 | Away - Dundee United (WIN) | Home - Hibs (WIN) |
Couple fun notes to go with these fixtures:
The 2012/2013 Result for Celtic was 4 days after their 2-1 win over Barcelona in the Champions League
I think it's fairly well-known but looking at it season-by-season but jeezo Rangers played a lot of games in 2007/2008...you really should have gotten some help at the end of the season there lol
in 2004/2005, Celtic and Rangers played each other either side of the Remembrance Sunday fixture, and Rangers won both games
Overall, since this was introduced 21 years ago, Celtic have played away 12 out of 23 possible times, for a 52.2% away fixture timeframe, whilst Rangers have played away 8 out of 23 possible times for a 34.7% away fixture timeframe.
Motherwell were Celtic's most frequent opponents during this time at 4 fixtures, whilst Rangers have multiple teams tied with Livingston, St MIrren, Ross Couhnty, Kilmarnock and Hibs all having played them twice
Lastly, Celtic are undefeated on fixtures on Remembrance Sunday weekend or the last fixture before it, Winning 20 and Drawing 3, whilst Rangers have Won 20, Drawn 2 and Lost 1.
Honestly, even though it is over half the time, it's not as bad as I thought it was for Celtic's away days over this weekend.
