Hi just writing this for a little insight. I recently changed around my scorpions tank and have been tinkering with new plants for his enclosure. He found a new hide he seems to like a bit too much he hasnt come out in atleast 2 weeks. Im worried if he may have had a bad molt or worse. Ive left crickets in his tank so long theyve died and when i lead them into the hide theyre seen just wandering around the tank by morning. Has anyone had a similar occurance?
Recently I got my first ever Asian forest scorpion, it's still pretty small maybe 5cm long and I keep it in a small 30x30x30 bioactive terrarium until it grows a bit bigger. The scorpion seems healthy, I don't use heating and the terrarium is always moist, not wet and it eats well weekly. But today I came back from work and I noticed it had burrowed to the bottom of the terrarium so it was completely submerged in the drainage water. I am worried because I've read scorpions can drown easily if their water bowl is too deep. I know scorpions burrow to seek shelter from heat, but it is barely 24C in the terrarium. What should I do?
Debbie and Lucy being all cute together
My first ever pet scorpion just passed away on Monday. She was a striped bark scorpion that traveled with me by accident, she got into my car during a trip 😂. I don’t know how old she is. Will be making a little project to preserve her :))
I have an 8x8x8 tank for her next enclosure. Size wise, is she ready for a be enclosure or should I leave her in here for another molt or two?
hello! today, my partner and i were given a male and female asian forest scorpion pair by someone who is moving! i was curious as to what exact species they may be, and if one being male is correct (the female apparently had scorplings, so there's no doubt there LOL). i can try to get better pics of them if needed.
i'm a newbie. what do u guys think? male or female?
Hello everyone, I will admit this coming from a place of ignorance, I've kept tarantulas for a couple of years now and I am wondering if about misinformation on scorpions.
I don't judge those that keep hots, I know this more of a line to draw as opposed to something that is based on research and I own old world tarantulas now including p. metalica which is the most venomous of t's.
But something about the scorpion pet trade has always bugged me and I'm wondering if it's just the sources I'm looking at or if it is actually the case. I know that in the wild, most scorpions are not medically significant but it feels like in the pet trade that ramps up quickly into medically significant and even a medical emergency. It's like, Asian forest scorpions and Emperor's are perfectly alright, and then the jump is into Bark Scorpions which while they have a body count, would be on par with owning a black widow or brown recluse. Then suddenly it's fattails and death stalker levels of venom. I see unboxing of scorplings and the venom level seems to be so much higher. Is this actually the case or is it that what people typically show the housing and care of hots?
I'm not saying that the spider trade doesn't have their fair share of dangerous species, I've seen videos of the Atrax genus, asian funnel webs, wandering spiders, and six eyed sand spiders which I know are dangerous, but it feels like scorpions it jumps up quicker than Tarantulas and some of the true spiders. Is this just my ignorance of the hobby, or if I wanted to get into scorpions I should expect and prepare for high levels of venom?
Thank you and please don't think I'm judging, there are probably people more comfortable keeping a slow hot scorpion than a fast and medically significant Tarantula. It's a line, and I don't know if I'm getting the right information in the hobby nor do I think people are irresponsible for keeping hot scorpions, I don't keep them and I don't know the risks if are even really that high. Please excuse my ignorance and correct me if I'm misguided.
I have had my male Asian forest scorpion for over a year and I’m just noticing these, they’re on both sides of his abdomen. What are these??
I read about some people successfully keeping PI scorplings with mum permanently in a communal set up and wanted to give it a go. So far, no losses! The female still actively protects the babies when I go poking around for uneaten food etc. She was never as aggressive before. Allways so interesting to watch her with the babies.
Hadrurus arizonensis. Can anyone ID the gender from this photo?
She has been in this position for over 24 hours. She is a WC adult javanimetrus cyaneus. She twitches her leg sometimes but normally she has attitude and goes into a defence position. I doubt it's premoult because she gave birth to scorplings last year and eat them lol.
Any ideas? :0
what's the best way to either sell it or get rid of it properly? there's an exotic pet store near me that I want to bring it to but if they don't take it what's my next best option?
Can anyone sex my scorpi?
Looking to get a couple Tityus Magnimanus as I'm quite fond of my Brazilian yellows which are tityus as well. I'm wondering if this species is partho as well like the yellows.
Hi guys, I received some tarantulas and scorpions by post (all were packed well and kept warm for the journey).
When received, one of the scorpions seemed to be 'stuck' grabbing on the tissue it was packed with. I removed the tissue after a day and left him settle.
When checking him again, his legs seem stuck and 'crippled'. He's been like this for over a week now. There is some movement, as a reaction when I touch him. I'm trying to keep him hydrated by using a brush dipped in room temperature water.
Does anyone know what might be going on here please?
Thanks to all in advance!
Here's a video.
Whats species is that?
Hi all, I just purchased a 40 gal tank for my desert hairy to upgrade from her/his 10 gal that I plan to build over the next month or so. It explores a lot and I felt like it was limited with the current amount of space. I want to do something more bioactive with lil bugs and sw us native plants as well. Any suggestions for building / maintaining a tank that size would be greatly appreciated. Also wondering what other species besides blue feigning death beetles would coexist well. Thanks!
Is the humidity too much for my Vietnamese forest scorpion?
