Hello everyone!
I am planning on purchasing a scorpion species native to the southwestern US soon and am currently split between three options: Paravaejovis spinigerus, Paravaejovis confusus, or Paruroctonus silvestrii. I can only pick one.
From my research, it seems like they do well in mostly dry conditions and have mild venom. They are all quite skittish and are fine with digging scrapes instead of burrowing.
However, they have quite different ranges. I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations on which one to choose or knew anything about the differences between the species.
Thanks!
I have a wild collected striped tail scorpion that has had two fly larvae emerge from it and pupate. We are waiting to see id they mature so we can IS the adults. The assumption is that they are Tachinid flies, probably Spilochaetosoma californicum which are known to infest scorpions but this is potentially a new host record. Was wondering if anyone else has ever seen this happen with a captive scorpion?
Saw this in my kids room, anyone know if it’s dangerous and if I should be worried about an infestation?
Region is south Texas
I just moved my desert hairy from its mostly sand enclosure to one with a giant mound of clay with tunnels built into it.
As soon as it was moved there, it went in, dug more tunnels and hasn't left that I've seen. I've been dropping in bugs, but I'm not sure if it has been eating them. I can see that it is moving every once in a while because it's in a different section of the tunnel system sometimes.
it's entirely possible I'm just not awake when it is active.
TLDR: how often should I be able to see it out of its hide normally? when should I be concerned?
Hello pother scorpion lovers lol, but I was wondering if anybody knew what was going on with my asian forest scorpion as he’s changed his behavior from hiding inside stuff to sitting by his water dish, I know it can mean he’s dehydrated but he also drags his tail sometimes and just sits in place which is normal but I haven’t seen him inside his water that often. I was wondering if he could be unhappy as I have him in a 20 gallon tank. Should I keep him in a 10 instead? Then he has some mulch stuck on him if I need to wash that off.
This is horrible. I had my Asian forest scrop Gladys for probably a little over a year, and I knew it might be stressful moving into a new tank but I really tried my best. I checked on them every day with a black light for a few seconds, misted the terrarium every day or every other day at least with distilled water, and they just die while molting in their hide. They were really fat before this, so I don’t know if it’s because of overfeeding, these white mites I’m seeing now or just bad luck. It just shouldn’t have happened…
Scorpion upside down. Is it a molting pls help?
Arachnophobe whose obsessed with scorpions. UK based and been out of the hobby for around 10 years but getting back into keeping and breeding, IMO scorpions are the pinnacle of evolution, i used to breed a plethora of species, and was once the rspca contact for scorps in the north of england, i love talking about them, promoting them and look forward to helping where i can. Im also absolutely drunk hammered right now and have commented on alot of post’s and hope i have not caused too much of an issue
DO NOT EVER HANDLE SCORPIONS.
Hi, I bought mealworms to feed to my Asian Forest Scorpion (1 year old aprox), but its been hard to feed them to him. If I just put them in the terrarium, they dig and dissapear. I also read that you can squish a little the head so that they cant dig, but that kills them (or I did it wrong) and I dont know if the scorpion would be interested in them when dead. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advanced!
For the past month I've noticed little white, almost microscopic critters digging around in my AFS's substrate. They're small enough for me to only see them with my glasses. I hardly ever see them crawling on my scorp, and more so just in damp areas in the substrate and under placed hides when I lift them up. From my understanding, these are grain mites. From what I've seen online, it seems like they're only an issue when they become overpopulated, and some even expressed favor in these guys being around. I'm hoping to dry these guys out a bit since I'm seeing them all over by lowering the humidity, but I was wondering if they're were any other opinions on how to get rid of these guys? Also any opinions on why I should keep them around?
My humidity currently is about 65-70% and hoping to drop it lower. Scorp homie will be going into a temporary tank tonight with nice new damp substrate. I'm hoping to keep him in there for a few days while the substrate in his home gets pretty dry.

Hi, I'm looking at getting a hormurus waigiensis scorpion and am wondering what's the best substrate to use and other things I should add to the tank.
I've heard coir peat and sand is good but I want to double check.
Also, is collecting leaf litter from outdoors safe? (Mainly eucalyptus and banksia leaves)
Any other info would be great, thanks.
After lots of fish tanks I’ve decided to get a new creature. 3 gallon desert themed setup. I have succulents, bark and wood on the way. I was thinking about a dune Scorpion but I might as well ask the professionals first. There is a heat pad covering most of the front of the tank. The temperature averages to about 78 degrees regularly, but may drop at night to low 70s to high 60s (Fahrenheit).
anyone know what kinda scorpion this is? i’m in texas specifically south texas he stung me on my leg while i was tryna sleep
My scorpion hasnt been doing so well recently, I am very new to owning this kind of pet and there really isn't a lot of information online, I'm getting ready to move him to a nicer tank that will hold humidity a lot better. But now I'm super worried and upset if he dies. Hes just started today leaving his tail flat down, sitting like this He hasn't eaten since I got him in January, ithasnt been as humid as it should be and his tank is usually at a solid 75° at all times. Pls let me know what to do better because I do want him tk have a healthy life even if I don't know as much, I thought I did enough research beforehand but idk now.
I want to get a scorpion, there plenty where I live so would it be okay to yoink one? Here’s what I’ve gathered about how to care for it. It’s likely a wood scorpion according to my dad. I’ve never had a scorpion before and was wondering if it would be a good idea to get one? Is there any other information I should know/have and any I should take out? I gathered this from online and petco info page, not too fond of petco but it’s what I could find.
So my scorp has been very restless the last week or so… keeps on trying to climb the glass.. What can be wrong or is it ok?
I found like two in my local country (Czech Republic) but one doesnt know their gender and suggested I get a terrarium clearly too small for theirs, and the second one had a weird link in their desc and was overall strange. Seller can be anywhere in the eu, but not UK, Uk aint in EU no more
