I saw the one part version of the play over the weekend and I'm really hoping to find some new Scorbus fics I haven't read yet. I know there are pages and pages of Drarry reclists but does anyone know of any Scorbus reclists that they can recommend?

This post is long overdue. I haven’t made it until now because I felt that as a small community of people unified by a queer ship, we all knew this already. I haven’t seen a single transphobic word posted to this sub, and as a trans person myself, that makes me incredibly happy. However, what I’ve come to realize recently is that even if nobody here needs reminding that transphobia is bad, some of us might need to hear that while such an influential content creator has let us down, the communities we’re a part of still support us fully and unconditionally. So here it is.

To all the trans folks here: you are valid. You are wonderful. Wether you’re binary trans, non-binary, two-spirit, genderqueer, or anything else, you don’t deserve everything you have to put up with from TERFS like JKR. It’s hard enough being trans. But I know each and every one of you is stronger than the people who want to tear you down. This community will always welcome you.

To all the other queer people here: you are, of course, valid too. JKR’s invalidation of people like you might be more subtle but it’s still there in how she handles Dumbledore’s sexuality, and how strongly she reacts when asked about Remus or Sirius being queer. So whether you’re gay, bi, pan, asexual, aromantic, polyamorous, or anything else, this community has your back.

To all the people of colour here: now, more than ever, we need to acknowledge how left out of the canon you’ve been. Harry Potter is a ridiculously white story and characters like Cho Chang are problematic depictions that show how little thought JKR gives to people different from her. This community stands with you. We stand with Black Lives Matter. We care about you.

To everyone who feels excluded because of their religion, physical or mental disability, or anything else: you are not alone. When you never see yourself in the books you read and the movies you watch, when writers like JKR don’t take the time to remember you exist, I know how isolating it can feel. But this fandom, and in turn this community, is so diverse. No matter who you are, there are people here who understand you, who see you for who you are.

To all the allies here: thank you. Your support means the world to anyone affected by JKR’s comments, and to anyone affected by any discrimination. JKR isn’t the first to make her discriminatory opinions public and she won’t be the last. It’s people like you who help us get through it each time. 

Lastly, I know it’s difficult to figure out how to navigate your relationship with Harry Potter now that we all know how awful the author is. And everybody will find a different answer. But I want to tell you that continuing to be a part of the fandom does not make you a bad person. Harry Potter helped a lot of us escape to a magical world where being different was valued when our real lives were a very different story. The Harry Potter fandom is disproportionately people of minority identities, and for a lot of us it was a safe space. That doesn’t have to change. As soon as she published her work and put it out into the world, JKR gave up any control she had over it. Our relationship with the canon doesn’t have to have anything to do with her. Daniel Radcliffe wrote a wonderful little piece for The Trevor Project, in which he talks about this. If you haven’t read it, you absolutely should.
