I've lived in Florida almost 20 years and been through a number of hurricanes. People go crazy for sandbags, but I don't get what they are for. I can see they would be helpful along a stream to shore up the banks and help prevent it from breaching, but I don't get what good they are around a house. They aren't a water tight seal, water will go right through a stack of them, and then in addition to a flooded house you have all these heave wet sandbags. I guess they'd be good to put along the bottom of doors to help prevent windblown water from getting in (I use bags of wood chips, and then use them to replenish what's washed away). So educate me, what do people use sandbags for, and do they work?
Hello, all. I'm a 20-something looking to return to university, and I need someone that can help me. Now, it's a European university that I'm looking at, specifically a Business Analytics BsC program, and I need someone that I can lean on to help me through the process. For admissions, I need to take a mathematics exam, which I will need some help preparing for, but otherwise, I need help preparing for the first year's courses. If you know a great tutor that could help me with some like this, please let me know. Obviously, I am in the Sarasota area which is why I'm writing here, so the closer the better, but I would easily be willing to travel an hour to Tampa or somewhere else if it means a higher quality tutor. Thank you.
If you own your home or plan to own a home, vote yes on 5! This will help lower property taxes for homestead properties. It will not benefit developers or landlords.
Anyone know if olearys in bayfront park is open?
Does anyone know if there is any FEMA or state assistance available for condominium associations?
My first post in this community, feel free to help me correct it if anything is wrong.
Would like to know if anyone knows what to do in this situation, my stepdad can’t perform any type of job currently and is unable to get any income to pay bills. Is there a way to get some sort of help for this situation?
PS: would really, really appreciate if anyone could repost.

Anyone know of any small scrap recyclers that want metal and appliances for free? Our HOA has a ton of appliances on LBK and I can get them in if they have interest in this.
I know there's two gay bars, but people say mostly men are there. I can't find any events where ppl meet specifically either :/ hhh idk what to do
Everywhere i go there's traffic..is it construction or just shitty drivers cause i have never seen it this bad and ive been raised and born here my whole life.
Ok, northeast refugee here there’s one aspect of driving on Sarasota that I cannot get
Making a left turn in traffic (whether or not there’s a turning “pocket”). What I’m expecting is you come up as close as possible to the center and even start crossing over the center without interfering with oncoming traffic (of course) so that you can patiently wait for an opening. What I’m also expecting is that if someone going the other way is making a left turn at same intersection he would freaking do the same, right? Instead people here just stop on their tracks not moving an inch to the left blocking the view of the oncoming traffic making my left turn hard (and theirs)
I’ll take the hate off the air but what’s with that, has anyone else noticed it here?

Truth Social is a business headquartered in Sarasota.
I was downtown for a meeting, it rained for 40 minutes, and when I went to the parking lot, I had to take off my shoes in order to access my car, because the parking lot was a giant bowl shape.
I get to work, and the parking lot has not one but two lakes, which are partly caused by massive leaf debris blocking the drain, but are also reflections of the way that the parking lot dips down rather than bowing out.
This is the kind of behavior that I expect from poor and developing countries, but it is mind-boggling to me that in a city this wealthy we are not protecting the investment, to say nothing of just people’s lives.

Has anyone else been having issues with Amazon delivering orders late or just literally not delivering at all?
I understand we just had a bad storm but I’m having a hard time believing they had any direct impact on going about their business. Not exaggerating the last 6 of my orders have been days late or just not delivered at all. They offer to give a refund after I’ve waited days, and when I bring the issue to them they don’t want to take responsibility.
Not trying to come off as a spoiled American but some of the items I ordered were time sensitive so it’s a bit irritating, especially when I’m paying for a prime membership. From a business standpoint if they advertise their products to be delivered by a certain time and over and over again they don’t/ can’t deliver, why offer for that time? And why not take responsibility? Offering a refund is not sufficient after continuously practicing bad business. Also, all 10 of my items are sitting in the Sarasota carrier facility and have been for days. Anyone know what the deal is?
I was wondering if anyone can recommend a CFP/Fiduciary here in Sarasota who can help with planning/managing an S Corp.
Thank you very much.
Does anybody have an organic rose garden or know where I can get roses that were not chemically treated?
A couple days ago I made a post out of concern for my apartment hunting trip. I deleted it because you guys helped me to realize how insensitive I was being. And now... I'm here. And I really wanted to apologize.
As we've driven around the area, we see that most places are unscathed but for those that suffered and are suffering through this -- I am truly sorry for what you're having to go through right now. I understand why you guys don't want people on the beach and in places where recovery efforts are extensive. It amazes me that people will go try to "enjoy themselves" when people directly behind them on shore have lost everything. We made a point not to go just for that reason.
You guys really have a great community here and I really am excited that I get to be a part of it. Everyone we've come into contact with has basically treated us like family and it is in direct contrast to where we are moving from. Once I'm back I want to make an effort to lend a hand and help those who need it because you guys absolutely deserve it.
I truly am sorry if I gave off a bad impression before. I wish you guys a swift recovery and all the best wishes in the world, and if we ever come into contact in person, I hope we become friends.
Thank you for putting me in my place the other day. I needed it.
See you guys in 2 weeks! 🙂
