/r/SapphicWriters
A place for wlw to write and share writing, advice and (constructive) criticism. There isn't enough representation of queer women in the media, or in fiction, and this is a small place to change that!
General Rules
- Discussion - for discussing the art and business of writing
- Critique - for writing you want feedback on
- Resource - links to writing tools, publication opportunities, etc.
- Recommendation - media/content (for, by, or about WLW) that you recommend
- Prompt - ideas to inspire writing
- Meta - for stuff about r/SapphicWriters
- Off-topic - for getting to know the community
Please use constructive criticism.

Calling all authors of sapphic fiction!
You might have heard of the Sapphic Book Bingo. It's the big, year-long reading challenge I organize annually. Every year, thousands of readers are participating, while others use the recommended reading lists to find books for their to-be-read lists.
Right now, I'm putting together the book lists for the 37 categories of the 2024 Sapphic Book Bingo.
If you haven't yet submitted your book for inclusion in the 2024 Sapphic Book Bingo, please make sure you do it soon!
Every author of sapphic fiction can submit up to three book. The only requirements are that the books must be available on retailers such as Amazon or Apple Books, etc., and you must be willing to help share the kickoff post in January.
Here's the link to the submission form: https://airtable.com/appnpYI7fZuhNgPiZ/shrxeA6GWty95bZ22
Hello,
I'm looking for some help with a romantic dinner scene in a lesbian fanfic I'm writing. It's a one shot and will probably be about 2K words long.
Context:
Person A is saved from a house fire by Person B (professional firefighter). Person A is curvy, very femme, quite rich, powerful politically. Person B is more butch, strong (she carried her out). Once she is out of the hospital, Person A invites Person B to dinner in a very fancy restaurant. Person A asks for consent to flirt, and Person B finds that question very attractive and says yes. Person A is mostly healed but has light scars from the burns and still has a bandage on her hand, and is a little awkward with cutlery because of it. Person B also saved her cat and took care of the cat while Person A was in the hospital.
I am now writing that dinner scene. I'm sapphic but aroace, and have no experience in flirting. What I have for now is Person A drinking wine without breaking eye contact. Could you share some ideas, maybe even words or phrases that you'd like to see in such a scene? Person A would be flirting more openly, but Person B is answering very favourably and starts flirting back.
In addition to heavy flirting, I also need to incorporate the fact that Person A did lose her house and feels some grief about it, and she possibly has trauma. I'm usually an angst writer, but this is meant to be light angst, light hurt/comfort + lots of fluff.
Thanks! <3
Hi fellow sapphic authors! I just created this account as it was suggested to me, but I don't really know what to do here or how to use reddit to broaden my audience. Some of you have likely become experts, so throw a little love and advice my way!
Thanks ever so much!
So I have a question of preference. Do you think it's wrong or appropriate to mention a book you've read or liked in a book review of a different Author's book?
I'm on the fence, and would like to know what others think.
Fictional example A: "Great story, loved the action and world building. The comedy and tragedy tied in nicely, and I feel for Princess Noname. Reminds me of 'The Darkest Secret' by Jane Doe. Highly recommend."
Fictional example B: "Beautiful world, funny moments, but could have been a better read. Didn't like that the MC wants to bang every attractive women. A better story to read is 'Amaha, The Dragon Queen' by Doie Jane."
I just discovered this subreddit and I was wondering if anyone here is writing a sapphic webcomic/webtoon or has some good sapphic webcomics to recommend?
Hi all! My name is Lu, I am 23 years old and I am a writer. I have been writing since I was 15 years old (only in Spanish), but my English is advanced. I have written short stories, poetry and a short novel. My favorite genre is horror mixed with drama, but lately I have been interested in writing romance. I’d love to meet other writers and be friends. I am taken and also monogamous (I am not looking for anything romantic, just friendship).
I want to write a sapphic fantasy book but my head empty and I don't have any ideas. Can anyone help me?
Hi loves! I've been on just about every facebool group out there trying to find ways to help reach the community. Not a lot of traction there honestly.
I'm a author, and just released my debut novel. The Queen's Sister by Faye Love on Amazon.
It's a Sapphic, dark-fantasy, action, adventure with a lesbian lead. I would really appreciate if any of you are book worms to please check it out. There's a runaway elven Princess, a tossed away warrior queen. Some pathless Bandits, deadly overlords, magic, fairies, swords, fighting, poly emotions, and elusive goddesses. And some sexy, tender, love scenes.
I'll add a link too: I could just really use some honest reviews. I know it won't be for everyone, people seem conflicted over the main character. But love the elven princess. It's an allegory of patriarchal abuse and the downfall of it due to Queen Leslidia.
Thanks for reading my post!

I wrote this a while ago but just found this subreddit and thought you might enjoy it.
Sorry if my grammar isn't great.

Hello!
Would anyone be able to give me feedback on the first chapter of my book? I’ve already made a post to the fantasy writers page, but since this work is a sapphic fantasy, I thought I’d post it here.
It's from the main character's perspective, who has lost her memories since her capture. The book begins with her in captivity in a series of caves, in a location unknown to her and the others that she is with.
I'm looking for glaring errors or thematic/stylistic issues within this sample since my work has been rejected a couple of times by agents so far.

I wield the shower. The water rolls off my cheeks. When tears won’t come out.
Hi everyone :). Has anyone read by chance The Grass Widow by Nanci Little? I'm not american and there are some parts of the story that I would like to discuss for a better understanding. Thank you :)
Hi. I’ve been writing short stories for a long time, mainly NSFW, WLW stories, but have never been brave enough to let anyone read them. I think I’m ready to share with this lovely community and get some feedback and hopefully improve my writing. What is the best way to upload? I see some people post long passages but others use AO3 and other sites. What do people prefer? Thank you
A middle aged Swiss woman (very queer) in San Fransisco decides to rent out a room in her house, specifies the renter has to be queer and/or an ally. A younger Canadian immigrant sees the ad and jumps at the opportunity, she’s either gay or bi.
I’m doing a cliche landlady romance, so you have the typical beats such as awkward exchanges and flirting.
The younger woman decides to make a move by driving to Golden Gate Park and get some sexy pictures taken from the shoulders up.
Once they’re finally an item, we meet a friend of her’s named Stephen, who’s a short, queer asshole who stirs up some drama. We see the landlady character is often shy and not very talkative. We meet her friends, one being a Hungarian queer woman she knew from boarding school.
A couple things I want to do is the two going to a cottage with the school friend and her partner, and the younger woman treats the landlady’s sunburns with aloe. And the landlady encourages her to cook and be confident in the kitchen, tells her to make tandoori chicken.
They visit the girl’s family in Canada and we meet her adopted sister (nerdy trans femme) and her mom, who’s very old fashioned but not a monster.
It’s pretty bare bones, and the ending doesn’t exist.
However, I want to do the Game of Thrones thing and have different characters narrate different chapters. Which could be a lot of fun.
And I do plan on making cultural references when applicable
You're the daughter of a notorious gang of thieves who have just kidnapped a noblewoman. In a bought of pity (and this wasn't in the prompt but I totally want it to be because she was pretty too lmao), you give her warm clothes and help her escape. She promises to remember your kindness, and runs off into the night. Now, years later, the worst winter that the land has ever seen is threatening the lives of everyone around you. But you, you seem to be immune. For it wasn't just some girl you saved all that time ago. It was the Snow Queen. And she does remember you.
Overwhelm me.
I want your words, first,
quick-sparking promise, your eyes flint from across the room,
across the divide, the distance is nothing because
you still reach me.
I want your touch, next,
soft, hot, skin aglow, ablaze, and I want-
give me your mouth, next,
finally,
swallowing my thoughts until I have nothing left
but you.
Hey everyone!
I just finished writing my first script! It was strongly inspired by my own life, so the opinion and reception of the community is very important to me.
It's about a girl dealing with her feelings for her roommate and acknowledging her sexuality; needless to say there are LGBTQ+ themes, along with women of color and minor mentions of religion. The main character identifies as asexual but gets confused once she starts experiencing sexual desire. It's 20 pages, and I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Particularly about the representation and story.
Thank you so much for your time!
