Welcome to Santa Clara, in the heart of Silicon Valley! Home of too many tech companies to count, the 49ers, Great America, SCU, Mission College, and the best power company in the Bay!

Rules:

  • All posts must be related to the City of Santa Clara, or something that a resident of Santa Clara would be reasonably interested in. Most commonly, posts/crossposts about events happening in Sunnyvale, Cupertino, or San Jose will be allowed (within reason).
  • The one exception to the above is local politics. I don't care how many dogs San Jose city council members have ordered assassinated, if it's not happening in Santa Clara, it doesn't belong here.
  • Posts about the city of Santa Clarita, CA will result in an immediate ban.
  • Treat your fellow Redditors and citizens of Santa Clara with respect.
    • Just because you saw someone pissing in the street isn't an excuse to give the most insane, NIMBY-ass speech I've ever had the misfortune of reading (you know who you are).
  • Keep posts and comments as Safe-For-Work as possible; swearing in comments is fine in moderation, but try to avoid it in titles.
  • Lastly, all posts and comments must follow Reddit's Content Policy, with zero exception. Report content policy violations immediately.
  • We're good on eye exams, thanks. Offering eye exams to users is forbidden.
  •

Rule violations will result in your post or comment being removed. The mod team will do their best to provide a reason for the removal, but we are only human - please message us if there is any confusion over why you were subject to moderation.

Repeat violators will be given warnings and temporary bans at our discretion. Egregious offenders and those acting in bad faith will be banned permanently.

    Query about 550 Moreland

While perusing through different apartment options I saw that this complex offer gas range stoves, which in my understanding is becoming a rarity.

As such, what is the expected utility cost for 1 bed apartments in this community ? (I understand this might vary person to person but just wanted to a ballpark figure to know what to expect if I move in here).

Also, what are the sources for electricity in this apartment -- SVP ?

Someone mentioned that for gas stove it might be PG&E.

Also, if someone can mention other apartment choices which offer gas ranges that would also be great. Its not a necessity for me, but just wanted to move away from electric coils for a while (I currently have that and I do not like it)

    Santa Clara Skate Park

Does anyone know why they only allow this skate park for Santa Clara CITY residents? I've never seen a skate park like this, sure you need to pay and sign a waiver to get into Lake Cunningham but at least they're not checking your residence lol...

My GF drives past it to get to and back from work everyday and its nearly always empty. What is the point of having spent so much money to build a skate park and then limit it to the point that nobody is using it? Is there something I'm missing? The closest skate park to me is Campbell Skate park and to be honest that skate park sucks really bad.

    Apartment + Roommate Recommendations

Hi everyone, I’m a girl moving to Santa Clara in July and am searching for roommates from July onward, close to the NVIDIA office, as well as apartment recommendations. I’m hoping to get a 2B2B or a 3B3B and my budget is $1600 at maximum (preferably lesser). I would like to be in a more active part of town (not purely residential) and was wondering if anyone had any insight into what I could look into. Thanks!

    Apartment recommendations

I will be moving to Santa Clara area soon. I am looking to move in to new apartment on 1st June.

I am looking for apartment recommendations in Santa Clara area.

Reasons for Santa Clara -- closer to office, less electricity bills

The electricity component is what I have understood reading about SVP vs PG&E. However, if you have other opinions (like in practical use, the cost different isnt much for other towns) pls feel free to share.

I am looking for 1bed 1 bath apartments

    My preferences:

    1. Gated community with secure parking
    2. Garages or safe parking options -- been reading about a lot of car break ins
    3. AC/heat
    4. In-unit laundry
    5. patio if possible
    6. Gym
    7. Pool/Spa pool (if possible)
    8. Preferably near transit options (bus/caltrain) - I dont have car right now, so before I purchase which would take 1-2 months I want to access public transit
    9. Dishwasher, fridge, oven, stove -- more or less new or in good working conditions

Other than apartment recommendation, if people have some observations after moving in during recent times, please free to let me know. I will be quite new to the area and moving for my first job, so any kind of help is appreciated.

(Edit) Adding budget which I missed earlier:
Preferably around $ 3000 per month. If there are no options I could try to push my budget up to say $ 3500 per month

    Related Santa Clara

Does anybody have any insider info about the progress/status of the Related Santa Clara project? This is a big project next to Levi Stadium where bunch of both commercial and residential real estate is supposed to be built. I know it’s faced numerous delays since Covid and I don’t see any updates on their website.

Any men between 18 and 60 years old want to play some softball in a Men’s Adult Sunnyvale League?

My team just needs a few more people! Looking for players who know the rules of baseball/softball, can hit the ball well, and knows what to do when they get on base. Please no first timers! There is a hired umpire and some years there’s a score/stat keeper so there is a league fee to join. Message me if you are interested and I’ll give more details! First come first serve!

Anyone else still waiting for their Xfinity WiFi to come back online?

We live near Levi stadium and xfinity went down at around 10:30am, came back until 2pm, and has been down since. I work from home and I’m sure a lot of other people here do too. Don’t even have an estimated time of it being restored

What income is needed to live a nice life in the area?

I have a possible job offer in Santa Clara. Base pay is about 180k and all OT is double time. After the OT income should be around 300k. Is this a livable income for the area to afford a home and just the general high COL you hear about for the area? Thanks in advance!

    On-Site Drug Screening?

Hey, r/santaclara! I'm heading to Santa Clara soon for an internship at a semiconductor company, and I have a quick question about the local work culture, especially concerning cannabis use. Coming from the East Coast, I'm not entirely up to speed with how things work over here.

The hiring manager mentioned that, beyond the background check, there's nothing else I need to do before my start date. So, I'm curious—is it generally understood to be okay to enjoy some recreational cannabis, or is it possible for companies to conduct drug tests upon arrival? I figure if there's no pre-employment screening, then I should be in the clear. Just want to make sure I start on the right foot. I know it's in my best interest to go sober just in case.

Appreciate any insights you locals might have. Thanks a ton! I'm excited to experience the lifestyle over there :)

    Cosmetic changes permits

    Hey folks!

Planning to do some remodeling. Mainly cosmetic. Kitchen: Change cabinets and counter tops, add recessed lighting in ceiling.

Bathroom: Changing tiles, vanity and bathtub in bathrooms. Not moving the plumbing

All the changes are strictly inside interiors and pretty much like for like. GC suggests not worth the hassle for such cosmetic changes. Went to a couple of tiles and cabinet shops and people said that there are some counties like Palo Alto where the inspectors are always on patrol. The moment they see a truck outside the home they start inspecting it and put stop orders. Is that the case in Santa Clara too? $$ isn't a problem for the permits but rather the pushed down time lines. What do Santa clarians suggest for permits for these? Are permits really needed for such cosmetic changes?

    bay club membership

i'm moving back to the bay this month and was wondering if I could join anyones bay club membership. It's cheaper with multiple people and I can avoid the initiation fee. For discussion, are there any other nice gyms in the bay similar to equinox?
