Plasma Donations

Are there no plasma centers in the area? I used to give plasma often in my hometown (I have a versatile plasma blood type and thought it was easy cash). I’m googling and don’t see any in the 2 hour radius. Does no one here donate plasma?

Piercing/thrift shop

Does anyone have any cheap but reputable piercing shop recommendations? I know some that are good but very expensive, and a lot of the places that I see online are just for tattoos. Also looking for thrift shops in the area if anyone has some spot they would like to share :)

ubers in salinas

hi everyone!

i was just wondering if anyone has any experience with how reliable ubering here is. i know its pretty reliable throughout the day, but what about super early in the morning (5am-9am) and later at night (9:30-12)? i am traumatized from an instance years ago where there were no rides late at night and i was almost stranded where i was at but as i said that was years ago and im sure these services have risen in popularity

TIPS FOR ICE - See something, say something

WHAT TO DO AT AN ICE CHECKPOINT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE WHITE and/or FEEL THE NEED TO JAM UP THE WORKS. Here's the deal:

🔘 Border Patrol can verify citizenship within 100 miles of a border or "external boundary." This includes coastlines, so NYC, Philadelphia, and all of NJ are within the 100-mile zone.

🔘 Border patrol can only ask brief questions about citizenship, and they cannot hold you for an extended time without cause.

🔘 You always have the right to remain silent. You do not need to answer their questions.

🔘 WITH THAT SAID, IF YOU ARE A BORN CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE WHITE, YOU NEED TO SPEAK UP.

🔘 The most important acts of resistance are the small ones. Make it difficult and uncomfortable for ICE agents to do their jobs. They are counting on citizens to turn a blind eye and allow them to deport undocumented citizens without challenge. Disabuse of that notion.

🔘 If you are on a train, bus, or anything else and ICE or CBP boards, you need to stand up and loudly let everyone know that they have the right to remain silent or only answer questions in the presence of an attorney, no matter their citizenship or immigration status. There have been numerous reports that confronting the agents in this way has caused them to leave without verifying citizenship. THIS CAN SAVE LIVES. 🙌

🔘 If you see anyone being held up by immigration, loudly ask if they are being detained and if they are free to go.

🔘 Immigration officers cannot detain anyone without reasonable suspicion, an agent must have specific facts about you that make it reasonable to believe you are committing or committed, a violation of immigration law or federal law. If an agent detains you, you can ask for their basis for reasonable suspicion, and they should tell you.

🔘 Always say no to a search and let everyone know that they can and should refuse consent to a search.

🔘 They cannot search or arrest anyone without facts about that make it probable that they are committing, or committed, a violation of immigration law or federal law.

🔘 Silence alone meets neither of these standards. Nor does race or ethnicity alone suffice for either probable cause or reasonable suspicion

🔘 white citizens, you have a level of privilege which protects you from retaliation from ICE for being "rude" and making a scene, which makes it your DUTY to speak up and make sure people without the same privilege know their rights. GET LOUD. YELL. YELL IN SPANISH IF YOU KNOW IT. LET PEOPLE KNOW THEY DON'T HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING. MAKE ICE UNCOMFORTABLE. THROW SAND IN THE GEARS OF WHITE SUPREMACY.

⭐️ Bonus info ⭐️ 🔘It is perfectly legal to record immigration agents as long as you are not on government property or at a port of entry. If your train/bus gets boarded, pull your phone out and start videotaping immediately.

🔘 If you are detained or see someone getting detained, get the agent's name, number, and any other identifying information. Get it on video if possible.

🔘 Contact the ACLU or your local Immigrant/Migrant support orgs (Rapid Response Network if you're in CO - 1-844-864-8341) if you see someone's rights being violated. (this has been copy and pasted)

ICE spotted at FoodsCo and Walmart on Davis.

Posting for awareness.

ICE activity is being observed in Salinas. This directly affects our community and the people who live and work here.

Even if you have no contact with farm workers or Latinos, when the agricultural workforce is threatened or forced out of work, the cost of food will rise.

Visiting Salinas

Hi Everyone!

I’m a 27-year-old (M) from the Netherlands, and I’ll be traveling to Salinas on a work trip in April. This will be my first time visiting the U.S.

I’ll be staying in Salinas for the first week, working during the day, but I’d love to explore the area in the evenings and on the weekend. After that, I have an additional week of vacation to see more of California.

I really enjoy nature and hiking, and I’m also interested in more general touristy stuff. I’ll be traveling solo.

I’d love to hear any recommendations for my time in Salinas—hotels, restaurants, places to visit, etc. Also, if there are any do’s and don’ts I should keep in mind, I’d really appreciate the advice! Any recommendations for the second week are also welcome!

Much appreciated!

Military helicopters?

Surely we all heard them. It was a whole fleet of them. The other day there was 2. I opened my flight tracker app to see what kind of helicopters they were and none showed up. Interesting. Anybody have an idea?

People on hoverboards asking to test my water.

Anyone else getting people riding on these things asking to test the water from your kitchen sink? I told him no thanks.

Hit and run

Good morning fellas,

Was involved in a hit and run when crossing this intersection. Was making a left turn on a green and the driver from across took the red going straight right in to me. Unfortunately driver ran.

This intersection has cameras for red light offenders. Where would I be able to get pictures? Already filed a police report.

FREE DEEP CLEANINGS AND X-RAYS

Hello everyone, my name is Rachel and I am a Dental Hygiene student in my senior year. As part of my program requirements, I am seeking patients who are interested in receiving deep dental cleanings. X-rays will also be provided and are free. Our services are performed under the direct supervision of experienced, licensed dentists and registered dental hygienists to ensure the highest standard of care. Each appointment is approximately 2.5 hours long.

Multiple appointments will be required to complete the full treatment plan, as each session includes a thorough examination and cleaning procedure.

If you or someone you know may be interested, please do not hesitate to call or message me at 510-371-5899 for further details or to schedule an appointment.

Anyone know a good place to get a fiddle fig at a good price? Home depot has them but they don't look very healthy.

Where can I get free groceries or find food distribution places?

I only have $13 for food from EBT. Ive been looking for work without much luck but I did land a job that won't start until 1/21/2025. I sent the county the paper work stating I no longer have an income as of 10/20/2024 to see if they can increase my $13 a month of benefits, but don't have a phone interview until 01/25/2025. In the meantime I'm looking for food in-between. Is there any other places one should look into to see if I can get free groceries? I'm already looking at the food bank of Monterey county but is there any not listed one might point me in that direction? I have zero income in the time being and don't qualify for unemployment and I already used my Disability benefits. Any suggestions help!

Looking for adu or 1bd or studio apartment

I'm a single young woman with a budget of $2000 max looking for a month to month lease. My current living situation is not good (house I'm renting a room in is falling apart and my room may become inaccessible soon). Salinas seems to have pretty affordable rent for decent apartments, I'm looking for recommendations or people looking for tenant for an adu. I don't have pets, I'm clean, don't smoke at home, no hard drug use (occasional weed smoker, outside only), don't party, would have 2 people over at a time max every once in a while, like to garden but yard is not a necessity (could be a plus for an adu landlord though!!). I work full time and would have a 30+ minute commute so I'm not home much.

Requirements: No roommates Off street or good (close and available) on street parking Safe area (very important) Good management Laundry in unit or on property Full kitchen (dishwasher not required)

I'm available for tours on the weekends or 5pm or after on weekdays.

Is there a good burger in this town?

I loved Campus Drive In, even when it changed to Roy’s. But I haven’t found a good burger since it closed. I mean, some of the chains are ok. Five Guys is waaaay overpriced, and Smashburger is ok. And In-N-Out is the best fast food burger around.

But these are all chains and none of them are anything special.

Average PG&E bills in Salinas?

I'm new to the area. For those of you working 8-4 and living in a townhouse or stand alone with 2 bedrooms, what's a typical monthly PG&E bill for you?
