Anyone know what was happening with the Police chase that just happened on Valley St?
The feedback survey post-Haunted Happenings?

Saw on FB that the Salem police have a cat someone found on Roslyn Street 11/10.
Imagine living in a neighborhood with a high population of rental units and assuming you know everyone and their vehicle.
I just parked on my own street, and some lady came and knocked on my window (interrupting my phone call) and said, “You can’t park here!” I replied, “I live here!” And she asked where. I pointed and she said she hadn’t seen my car before. I explained (through the closed window) that I usually park in my garage. She walked away. No apology.
I’m so annoyed. I didn’t have a big reaction because I want to be civil with neighbors, but what the hell? We’re past October and she could have politely asked if I am a resident. I think this is a downside of no longer having visible permits.
does anyone have contact info for the person that was selling the hollowed out books in the common throughout the month of october ? i bought one from him and want to order more as a gift for a friend, but i never got a business card or anything from him. thank you in advance ! 💛
Just got an add for this on Instagram… not sure if this is what they’re putting in the old flatbread?

Anyone else have brown water downtown? Just tried to take a shower and water is like a light brown but didn’t get any notice about water main breaks or hydrant flushing
I spent 11/2 and 11/3 in Salem and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. I had been browsing this sub for months before this trip, and not gonna lie, I was a bit worried over how terrible y’all were going to be (with love, this sub can come off as very bitter and anti visitors sometimes). But man that couldn’t have been further from the truth! Every single person, and I mean everyone from the security people directing traffic, shop workers, quirky guides, to residents walking around were so warm and kind. My friend and I know everyone was burnt out by Sunday 11/3, and we really, really tried to keep to ourselves and make our shopping and visiting experience as quickly as possible to not be a burden to you, but man was everyone so fucking wonderful.
I took every advice here and brought it with me. We were conscientious of our walking to not block any entries, pathways, or crash against people. Didn’t jaywalk, didn’t take a car into town, would move on to another store if one was too full, brought our own bags for our shopping, didn’t linger anywhere if it was crowded, guided other tourists if they didn’t know something we had learned so they wouldn’t have to bother Salemanders (is this okay to say? someone posted it here)…
The bartenders/servers from The Lobster Shanty were quick, so helpful and open. The candle making witch from Pentagram gave me so much insight from every single item I purchased! The workers at Wicked Good Books took time to guide me through collections and recommendations with explanations why they loved that particular book, the staff at Life Alive Cafe being so fast, helpful and sharp, making coffees, answering questions and attending the clients. The hat making ladies from a little house outside of Pioneer Village were so funny and cute! I love the embroidered hat I got there!
I just have so much to say, so many people to thank and think about whenever I reminisce about this incredible trip. The shops are so fun, the people are so smart and kind, the history and lore are beyond interesting, but nobody said how beautiful the actual town is! And that purple and pink sunset was the cherry on top, like wtf, that sunset was out of movies! and the colorful trees!
Sigh. I had an incredible time and would love to come back outside of the September-November dates to get a more local experience because my favorite thing was talking to the people who live here. Thank you, Salem!
Ps: The food was sooo fucking good, like what??
after this week I feel like there’s definitely a need for trans affirming spaces. I know about Nagly but are there any others i should know about in the area or Boston? Even just like queer hangout spaces, bookstores and such that isn’t just shopping, more community?
Join us November 17th 11a - 5p @ Salem Community Life Center
We are excited to be partnering with Salem Park, Recreation and Community Services again to host another game day at the Salem Community Life Center.
For this event, the Essex County Gamers Meetup group is welcoming its members and the public to its Annual Member & Host Appreciation Game Day Extravaganza. The event celebrates our love of games, the hard work of our hosts and organizers, and the generosity of our members. Whether it will be your first time playing modern tabletop games or you are an experienced gamer, all are welcome!
Here's what to expect at this event:
The center has plenty of seating and circular tables that will work with most space hungry games. Bring any game you would like to play, or join in with a group day of. Coordination for longer games may take place in the event comments beforehand, so we encourage everyone to RSVP. This event is generally suitable for those aged 10ish & up, and families with younger children are welcome to come game together (childcare is not provided).
Games of varying difficulty are played with each game featuring a teacher. Games played can be anything from quick and easy-to-learn light games to multi-hour, heavy, brain-burner strategy games. If you plan to arrive late, please post your estimated arrival time in the event comments and the hosts will try to have a seat in a game ready for you. Game clean up needs to start no later than 5 PM. We have a hard exit from the space at 5:45 PM.
The community life center is a short walk from the Salem commuter rail station, has a large parking lot, bike parking and a blue bike station. This event is open to members of Essex County Gamers and walk-in members of the public.
You can RSVP at the link below:

I'm selling my Lectric XP 2.0 electric bicycle for $700. Less than 2000 miles and a new motor. That includes three batteries, an after market headlight, and saddle bags. The bike is currently at Habanero Bike in salem. Habanero can detail all the new components on it. Let me know if you are interested.
Was there when I went to and came back from Daily Table around 2. Very sweet and accepted pets. Had a collar but no tags. Hopefully their owner is nearby! I was only in the store for about 15 minutes, after all. Wanted to bump in case they’re still there later.
Because this conversation is so fraught, and because people will immediately accuse me of transphobia, I will say up front: OF COURSE trans people deserve the same rights as everyone else; of course they should be protected, respected and loved; of course they should not face hate and discrimination.
But we can acknowledge biological reality and still respect people's gender identities.
In fact, we MUST.
And the basic fact is that we must be able to have conversations and disagreements without vilifying each other -- as Moulton is presently being vilified.
The specific issue here is about preserving girls' sports. There is a reason we have separate sex categories for sports -- at least once puberty begins. It is quite simply because sex creates significant biological differences between boys and girls. On average.
Now, in individual cases, these differences will be more or less significant. But broad-based rules are simpler and less prone to conflict -- unless you want a system where someone (who?) decides (based on what exactly?) whether this kid or that can cross category. That would be worse.
I know some of you will adamantly insist that biological sex isn't real or that identity overrules it or that there's no science behind sex differences.
That's false. It's pure Flat-Eartherism.
Girls playing against girls is important for fairness and safety. Not because boys -- or trans girls -- are looking to cheat or harm girls! But because, on average, they are stronger, faster, heavier, have denser bones, larger lung capacity, hearts, etc.
Unfairness and injury are not theoretical. They have happened.
Concerns about this are not transphobic. They are common sense.
Not allowing trans girls to play in girls sports does not prevent them from participating. They simply play within their sex category. Nothing about this should make trans girls feel "unwanted or inferior." In fact, they're only likely to feel this way if adults TELL THEM this is how they should feel.
Broadly speaking, "trans issues" didn't cost us the election. The silencing and attacks -- like we're seeing here against Moulton -- the denial of basic reality (i.e. biological sex), THESE are the kind of thing people don't like and that hurt us in the election.
I’m out walking on Lafayette and it’s just waves of smoke…
wicked cool ! It's good to see our community telling Seth Moulton he's a creep !
Hello! The last Salem family bike ride was a huge success, thanks everyone for coming out!
Please join us for a community bike ride on Sunday, November 17 starting at 10 am. All are welcome. We will leave from Grace Church (385 Essex Street, across from the library) and roll together to Winter Island for a break. From there, we will loop back and end at Coffee Time for lunch & snacks.
All are welcome! Please go to bit.ly/salemride to see the route map and RSVP so we know how many people to expect. Feel free to spread the word!
A lot of the backlash seems disingenuous. Do all these people actually think Seth is this "bigot" or "transphobe"? Can that really be? All I gather from his comments is that democrats need to focus more on issues that concern the majority of Americans, and they need to stop worrying about saying the wrong thing. Moulton seems to think there's a kind of orthodoxy within the party, and the dems are afraid to offend it. So he chose the issue of transgender athletes for his example. Perhaps he shouldn't have, if only to avoid kicking up all this fuss. But we should take it easy, maybe. Stuff like this (backlash/fuss) is nonsense and it's how we got Donald Trump. Am I right?
Hi, if your name is Brianna W and you were around Derby Square today, I have your wallet! Or, if anyone has a friend that lost their wallet! I don’t want to say where for privacy but you can pm on the off chance you see this, thanks.
Anyone have 1 extra PEM after party ticket?
Hello, we recently relocated from Somerville/Cambridge area to the Salem area and we were wondering what the recommendations were for authentic Korean, Japanese and Chinese (particularly Hunan) places were? We used to eat at Sumiao but we’re trying to avoid ordering food from Cambridge. As far as groceries, we typically shopped at HMart but were wondering what recommendations there were for local Asian grocery stores around the area?
Is happening right now from 10-12
Meet at sidelines to help clean up the multi use path. Pizza provided after the cleanup.
Strange question but I am recently out of sweet pickled garlic,I usually go to Connors farm but they are closed for the season. Does anyone know where else would have what I'm looking for? 🤷♂️
I'm trying to decide if I should try to move from Salem to Boston on the morning of Sunday, December 1 or Monday December 2 - likely between 10am-12pm on either day. Traffic is the main factor as I'm hiring movers, and I don't want us to be stuck on a highway in traffic during post-Thanksgiving traffic or during the rush hour commute. I'd love some insight from folks who make or have made this commute post-Thanksgiving or during the regular workweek as I don't usually drive! Which do you think will be worse?
